I bought a Shadow 2

Like most of you I have been following the media hype around the Shadow 2. I was fortunate enough to test fire one at the Australian IPSC Nationals in March and thought it was a great gun, especially given the price point.

The first Shadow 2’s were released in Australia a week or so ago (all urban grey), with my understanding that all had been presold. Seems a few people have elected to wait for the “blue grip” version. So a few went out to dealers.

Despite owning a very nice Tanfo Aus Stock 2, I saw a dealer had them "instock" and couldn’t resist.

Now awaiting the paperwork to clear so I can pick it up.

Be interested to see how this compares to the Stock 2.

Nice.  Did you get it from safari? I saw they posted they had some last week.  I was tempted for a few seconds.

Yes I did. They were great to deal with. $1,700 with 4 mags posted to my local dealer.

Just shot mine last night at my first IPSC match (previously had it out on the range).  Gun performed very well, seemed like I couldn't miss.  The trigger leaves a lot to be desired though....I've got some different springs on the way to address that.

I know they say this is a new gun, but do the Shadow 1 springs drop right in?

The Shadow 1 main springs and firing pin springs drop straight in. The Shadow 2 I tested at the  nationals was pulling at 8.5 in DA and 3 in SA. This was with stock springs and a new gun. I dont see why the trigger weights achieved with the Shadow 1 could not be replicated with the Shadow 2 with the correct springs/ polish job.

Cool! whats up with the mags? no extended base pads?

We are limited to 10 rounds here in AUS. One of the importers had an issue with Customs bringing in the Full size indented magazines. As such CZs and Tanfos come with these style of bases here. You can still get the fullsize versions that take the base pads they are just less common.

I will post a review contrasting the Shadow 2 against my Tanfo Stock 2 Aus in the coming days. I just want a bit more time behind the Shadow 2 and to play with the set up re recoil springs etc.

In short however it’s one of the best non custom guns I have ever shot out of the box, especially considering the price point. Considering I have north of $1000 more into my Stock 2, it’s hard to go wrong with the Shadow 2.

Sounds great.  Can you please be detailed on the grip size difference/similarities?  I haven't been able to get a good answer to this yet.  Thanks.

The grip difference for me off the top of my head was the Shadow 2 feel bigger front to back and thinner side to side than my Original Shadow that has the DAA Thin grips on it.  Got me curious the actual numbers so I quickly grabbed them both and the caliper and took a few quick shots with the phone.  Sorry about the crappy quality but was trying to get this done in between periods of the hockey game and never checked the quality of the photos until after I put everything away.

Thanks Pat.

Is the magwell better on the Shadow 2?  It looks more beveled.  Is it any bigger?  Easier to reload?

I'd like to see someone compare the girth at the top, middle, and bottom of the grips, by measuring with a cloth tape or something, to compare the Shadow, Shadow 2, and Stock 2.

Magwell is basically the same as the Stock2/3... to the point where I really cant tell what gun im reloading as it feels and loads almost the same
