DVC Open 38SC load

Ok i've seen a lot of load data here for 9mm Major out of the DVC open, I was wondering if anyone had any loads they have already tried or using with their DVC Open in 38 SC. I would like to run polycoated bullets, but if i get better performance from jacketed then I will look to that.

Any load for .38 SC will work in your gun - what powder(s) do you have?

I'd start with a 124 grain bullet - then you can try lighter bullets later, if you want.

I want to start with 124 gn bullet. I am getting into reloading and want to get a few powders to try. Right now I have none, but about 2000 SC brass and a ton of small pistol primers.

I run 8.5grs of HS6 with 124gr JHP PD bullets @ 1.235 OAL and make 169-170PF in my DVC 38S. Same with 38SC I have loaded and run thru it. Works the comp nicely and dot stays on target.

I did try 124gr Bayou coated bullets with the same load and they shot well, but I didn't like the lead on the comp. Stayed with JHP's.

9.2gn of 3n38 at 1.235 oal will be a good start.

One of my early 124 loads was 7.5 of AutoComp at 1.225, Worked fine, I've now gone to a 121 Zero with 7.7 gr using WSR primers.

Bayou 124's Gold color (supposed to have more pigment,i.e. less chance of leading)

7.2 Auto Comp, SPP or SRP, COL 1.235,  171 PF

Flat and smooth runs great

I found that using Accurate #7 worked well for my 38SC.

AA#7 - 11.4 Grains, Montana Gold 115 JHP, CCI SR primer, COL 1.240, 175 PF

Very Flat and makes the gun come back to where you were aiming.

Do most of you run small pistol or small rifle primers? Also as long as the bullet is .356 then it can be labeled 9mm or 38 super right?

I ran basically the same as Gerritm which is one of the more documented loade for 38sc.

i also ran the 125 coated blue bullets for practice- little less accurate than JHP but a lot less expensive.

Run both primers .  My gun likes .355 never tried . 356 .

7.2g WAC, 124g MG JHP, OAL=1.232, Winchester or CCI primers, 1370fps, PF 170 in my STI DVC 38SC open gun. Runs like a champ.
