BARRYJ
Should Loctite be used when mounting a rifle scope?
Flatland Shooter
Mounting the base to the receiver, yes. Mounting the rings to the base, no. At least that's what I've done for the past 50+ years.

stardust tommy
do you use some kind of anti seeze on the scope screws? this week I had an old s&w 29 with a scope in the shop, the screws were verry tight without tread locker.
Toolguy
Might be better to put paper in the rings and not tighten the screws so hard. On heavy recoil guns it takes a lot of friction between scope and rings to keep the scope form moving.

BeerBaron
anti-sieze could be a good idea. especially if you are combining different materials (ie steel screws into alloy threads). loctite make an anti-sieze too. Bkreutz
You could also use Loktite blue, it's medium strength and will also help prevent thread corrosion because it keeps the dissimilar metals from reacting with each other.
JD45
I use blue on the bases. Nowhere else.
Hunter1998
Blue loctite on bases and nothing on rings. A lot of instructions online.
