I picked up an STI Edge 9mm. Can anyone guide me on a load using VV N320 and 147 Gr Montana Gold bullets?  I have had great success with 124 Grain MG CMJ with 4.3 grains of N320 OAL 1.135, PF 130. I just have a case of 147s to use up. Thanks. My mags have spacers.

Red Ryder....I follow your posts and it seems we are both headed in the same direction. This weekend I loaded several variation of 9 mm with N320 using MGm147.

The batch was with 3.7 grns of N320 at both 1.45 and 1.50 COL.   I also loaded 3 variations of the load with 147 Blue Bullets in round nose and flat nose a friend suggested I try .

Im simply trying to ensure a good cushion on minimum power factor vs recoil.

If your interested I'll let you know the results??.......I enjoy seeing the cause and effect with different loads.....OCD !!,

Just more data;  it has been a long time since I used this combo but on my old 5" XD I settled in on 3.6gr n320 @ 1.135" with a MG 147gr CMJ.  I was after recoil feel and accuracy, I was not worried about power factor but I think it was around 130 PF.

Rob...tested more 147 Montana Gold with N320 last Friday .......looks like 3.7 at 1.150 COL is my safety zone:

9MM STI Edge :

147 MG with 3.7 grns N320 1.15 COL

Averages:

901 , 901, 898

147 MG with 3.7 grns N320 at 1.140 COL

903 , 904 , 907

Either load seems ok.....I have noticed a reduction in black on the casings and pistol seems a little cleaner......

If your interested I also did some tests on Blue Bullet 147 round and flat nose

147 RN BB with 3.5 grns of N320 at 1.150 COL

averages 943 , 945 , 942

3.5 grns N 320 at 1.140 COL

averages 939 , 927 , 936

3.4 grns N320 at 1.140

averages 922 , 924, 913

all above round nose.........pretty interesting with the reduced charges......am testing some more this weekend.

i can see converting to all 147 BB round nose....considerable cost reduction !!!!!!!!!

hope this makes some sense and you can give your Edge some testing .............

The tests on these 147 BB are interesting......I've gone from 3.7 grns. on a MG 147 to 3.4 on 147 BB at 1.150 to make minor.

Im loading a batch a 3.3 grns. to see if I can still make min with the 147 BB

using Vih N320...1.15 COL......once fired Winchester brass and CCI Sm. pistol..........

still trying to figure advantages/ disadvantages  from round vs flat nose.....thoughts??

147 gr flat head Bayou Bullets didn't feed well in my gun. Could just be my gun. I will try some 147 round nose too. I loaded up 300 147 gr MG CMJ with 3.7 gr N320 for the match tomorrow. OAL 1.135. [emoji3]

Red:  Glad to hear this load is performing well in your Edge!

We were discussing this last year when it was doing so well out of the Glocks:

I'll keep these notes for a future 1911/9mm combo.

Regards,

HR
