magpulled
So I traded into an edge but unfortunately the person I got the gun from took a little to much off the safety. I figure I will try to peen it and if not I'll weld it and start over hopefully. Will a tig welder work if the peen job doesn't fix it. When I attempt the peen where is the spot that needs peening. I assume I'm gonna peen the flat part where the safety mates up to the sear. Kinda sucks because these are pt safeties so I'd like to atleast try to save these. When cocked and the trigger pulled lightly the hammer doesn't fall but pressing hard on the trigger the safety drops the hammer when I disengage the safety. Thanks in advance. Pat Miles
Read this article. http://www.brazoscustom.com/magart/0601.htm fifth pic down shows Bob peening the end of the safety. Note the feeler gauge to fill the groove that slides down the frame. You DON'T want to hammer the groove closed!
magpulled
Well I peened and was surprised at how easily I moved material. Will see it it worked tonight. I'm kinda thinking it's gonna do the trick.
Boxer1
I have tig welded a safety before to fix this same exact issue. So far so good just re shaped the weld a bit and still working for me.
magpulled
I installed it last night and had to refit the safety. I think this should work fine. Super easy too.
Ross Carter
Always make sure you peen it quite a bit more than you need, that way when you file it to fit you have more than a knife edge which will wear quickly to block the sear.
