Just starting to load 40cal major

Can y'all point me in the right direction. Need recipes for 40 major. Powder grains bullet size and OAL. Heard n320 and cfe pistol are the top 2 with a lot of guys. Any recipes appreciated.

I've been loading xtreme 180s with 4.8 grains of N320 at 1.130" with CCI primers. This is for my Glock 35 with the stock barrel.

4.5 of N320 1.15" for a 200 grain plated. Anything you decide to do work up and use a chrono. All barrels are different.

I'm not sure if cfe is part of the top counts. I'd say titegroup, WST, clays and a few others have more popularity than cfe.

3.6gr e3, 180gr Falcoated, 170pf, 1.126 oal in my TS.

I've been using 5.6 grain of CFE lately with Extreme 180 grain hollow points loaded to a OAL of 1.140 in my XDM 5.25 and have had pretty good results. Last time I checked on the chrono it was about 172 power factor and grouped pretty decent.

So is the top powder n320. Seems like it always comes back to that powder for 40 cal. Is this what I should start with.

I load it to 171 PF and have never gone below 168 and change at the chrono station

In my Trojan, this makes 171 - 173 PF but is pretty soft shooting.

Same load except 3.1 of Titegroup makes a very soft minor load.

Tanfoglio Limited Custom 5". Just did a pile of chrony time using Titegroup with 180 gr plated.

5.4 gr = 180 PF

4.0 gr = 138 PF

OAL: 1.126

This is 165 PF (avg 1020 FPS)

I am considering N340 for next year for a little more velocity.

I'm sure there is small room for improvement, but it's a trade off vs what is regularly available in my area.

I have no doubts I can shoot tens of thousands of this without worrying that I won't be able to get powder or some other component.

Whatever you do, chrono it in any gun you may shoot, and record ambient conditions. Don't want to assume you're good to go on a 110F day, then chrono a late season match at 40F and not make major.

I used your load as a starting point with Bayou 180 gr TCG bullets loaded to 1.126. I bracketed it and ended up with charges of 3.2-4.0 in 0.2 grain increments. I figured that would get me where I wanted to be in my CZ TS. 4.0 was almost there, but I had 2 shots that were sub major. I'll have to try 4.2-4.6 and see where I end up. Here's my data. My chrono didn't pick up all of my shots for 3.8; that's why the data is missing.
