How Do I Figure My Hit Factor?

Recommended Posts

Hit Factor is a fancy way of saying points per second.

To figure out what hit factor you got on a stage: take the points that you hit...subtract any penalties...then, divide the points you are left with by your time.

For example,

Say a stage has 120 points possible.

The shooter might come along and earn 104 points with their hits. They might of had a penalty (miss, foot fault, ect.) that would subtract 10 points from the 104 earned. So, now they are sitting at 94pts (104 - 10 = 94).

Lets say it took them 12.6 seconds to shoot the stage. 94pts. / 12.6seconds = 7.4603 hit factor.

Easy...

For a 16 target stage:

HF=((T1p/T1t)+(T2p/T2t)+(T3p/T3t)+(T4p/T4t)+(T1p/T5t)+(T6p/T6t)+(T7p/T7t)+(T8p/T8t)+(T9p/T9t)+(T10p/T10t)+(T11p/T11t)+(T12p/T12t)+(T13p/T13t)+(T14p/T14t)+(T15p/T15t)+(T16p/T16t))/16

I prefer to simplify it to:

HF=(T1p+T2p+T3p+T4p+T5p+T6p+T7p+T8p+T9p+T10p+T11p+T12p+T13p+T14p+T15p+T16p)/(T1t+T2t+T3t+T4t+T5t+T6t+T7t+T8t+T9t+T10t+T11t+T12t+T13t+T14t+T15t+T16t)

So, if you had a target stage:

Your equation ignores penalties.....

.....and doesn't work for fixed time stages.....

....otherwise, nice try -- too much time on your hands? :D :D

I don't get penalties and there is no such thing as hit factor in a fixed time stage. :closedeyes:

Ok, back on topic...

I think the original poster's intent was to better figure out hit factor to determine stage performance. Here are some ideas to improve hit factor:

- New shooter- doesn't matter, have FUN and shoot A's. You'll never have decent HFs if you can't shoot the points!

- B-C class- shoot Alpha/Charlie fast as you CAN SEE SIGHTS. If you are shooting more than 1-2 D's a match, you ain't watching!

- A-Master- shoot 90-95% of available points

- GM- shoot 95%+ of available points

- Pro- shoot 97%+ of available points

T#p=T# points - penalties

Classifier scored at 103% what dose that mean? It was 3% over the best hit factor or GM group? Is there a list of the best hit factors somewhere?

The list of high hit factors is kept under wraps for some reason.

Was this a 13 series classifier by chance? If so its probably wrong

I made a spreadsheet that may be helpful learning / tracking USPSA scores.

It is dynamic so load in PF and info from practiscore (or hypothetical stage) and it calculates everything.

I built it in excel but here it is in google spreadsheets for ease of sharing. This works best on a desktop rather than cell phone.

Hope this is useful for somebody out there!
