Marty123
4.5-5.0 depending how stout you want it. I use an OAL of 1.135 but you can also lengthen that out quite a bit depending on your specific auto. Note, always "verify" with various load data and start low and work up which goes without exception.
littlehendrick
I am running it a bit shorter of a load (1.117") since I use it for a glock 35 and my wife's Edge. 4.0gr makes it in the glock, 4.1 makes it in the Edge. 10 shots averaged 959 with a SD of 9. It was on a 73 degree day.
Flat4boxer
I'm switching to Limited from SS so I recently picked up a M&P .40 Pro and worked up loads with Tightgroup using 180 Gr Montana Gold JHP Today i went and tested loads with the chrono today and here are the results: (strings were 15 rounds each, temp 82 deg) String #1 4.3 seated to 1.130 averaged 878 ES: 52 SD: 13 String #2 4.3 seated to 1.130 averaged 879 FPS ES: 30 SD: 9 String #1 4.4 seated to 1.130 averaged 904 ES: 39 SD: 10 String #2 4.4 seated to 1.130 averaged 906 ES: 34 SD:10 String #1 4.5 seated to 1.130 average 918 ES: 39 SD: 10 (This barely makes Major PF so I need to bump to 4.6 or seat lower to gain a few FPS safely) String #2 4.5 seated to 1.130 average 905 ES: 54 SD: 17 I loaded more tonight at the same 4.5 but moved the seat down to 1.127 to see if I can safely move the FPS up without going to extreme on the pressure. Hope to get back to the range tomorrow and I'll post up results.

TomInKC
An easy shooting IDPA load I've been using is 3.6 grn Titegroup under a 180 grn Bayou TC bullet. Decently accurate out of a Glock 22 & makes minor PF. Tom in KC

Hope to get back to the range tomorrow and I'll post up results. In my experience the M&P can accept way longer than that. And remember that seating the bullet deeper means your pressure is going UP. That's why people load longer with a tick more powder.

That's why people load longer with a tick more powder. I went through the Chrono stage at IPSC National Championship, my load is 4.8 grains of Titegroup, 180 FMJ FP Precision Delta, 1.185" 938 FPS, 945 FPS, 902 FPS. When I saw the low one, I was worried bit I just made Major Power Factor 170.2. On the can it says 4.7 grains max, and should be 970 FPS or something close, I can't recall but figured it would be well over the power factor of 170. It is a pretty snappy load and pretty loud. Will try CSB 1 next and some 200 grain bullets.

bret
I use 4.3 with 180 gr blue bullets at 1.135 made major pf at Uspsa area 8 match. USPSA is 165 for msjor power factor, IPSC is 170. I shoot STI's they need to be longer to feed reliably. I may try some with 4.4 for 3 gun.
