Brian Enos site BLOCKED !

Hi All,Didn't know where to post this so I'll put it here and hope members find it. Took my wife to a KOHL'S department store in South Fla yesterday and while she was doing her shopping I sat down to read the Forums and using the KOHL'S free WiFi signal was unable to get to the Brian Enos site, well it didn't take long to see why- this message came up-"This Domain is Blocked" www.brianenos.com and underneath this statement it read "This site was categorized in Weapons,Research/Reference" So for those of us that have Kohl's stores in their community be advised that they'll take your money but won't allow you access to a favorite web site on their WiFi. Shop accordingly...

Nelly, lot's of places won't let you access weapons related material on their wifi. I just pay for a big plan with Verizon and ignore most free wifi. We can't boycott or avoid everybody who dislikes guns or shooting. If we did it would be a pretty small world for us to shop in. I pretty much ignore retailers, food joints etc when it comes to gun policies. I still go there. But for something like donations, insurance etc then I take my business elsewhere. One of the biggest obama supporters out there is AARP. They are for obamacare and against guns. They will never get a dime from me. Just like wounded warrior. On the outside they seem to be the ideal organization to donate to. They do great work for our troops. But they told me no thanks when I tried to donate proceeds from my state match. They do not take money from gun related events according to what they told me. There are plenty of other organizations who help our troops as much or more and they love getting donations no matter where they come from.

Sarge,

Not to "knock" Wounded Warrior but when you research charities about the amount of $ that actually goes towards the main focus of the charity and how much goes to "administrative fees" (Secretaries , clerks, administrative personnel, etc..) W.W.P. has one of the HIGHEST admin costs. I forget the exact figure but if my memory serves me correctly it was something like .85 cents of every dollar goes to admin fees.

I'm sure they have done some good work but its not a "true" charity in that there are people running it that get their primary income from working for W.W.P.

I know guys involved in the American Snipers Org and they have a total 100% volunteer organization. There are NO administrative fees and 100% of the $ donated goes towards helping the guys directly involved in the GWOT.

IMHO theres no comparison.

The CEO is paid over $311,000 a year.

How you can call it a "charity" when you're making a six figure salary from being one of the admins of it is beyond me.

15% of donations to WWP goes to the Wounded Vets.

They also do not take donations raised or supplied from Firearms related events.

Operation Wounded Warrior (OWW) is 100% of donations goes to the Warriors. All time and admin is donated (mostly from Legion Riders from various American Legion Posts.

JM two cents

Sarge, I quit AARP 2 years ago & they've been sending me re-up letters in the mail which I promptly toss. If it wasn't for AARP's support and their Bullshit Doctor's endorsements, Obamacre would have had a much more difficult time passing.FYI UNITED HEALTH CARE is AARP'S Product.! BTW I've been wearing my WWP pin on my hat, didn't know that they won't accept competition shooters donations, thanks for the heads up.

If you ask the general population what the largest lobbying body in America is, they would answer the NRA. They just happen to be the target of those who disagree with what they stand for. While the largest lobbying group is the AARP.

Tom Gresham tried to interview the Wounded Warrior Project for his show GunTalk Radio, they declined because they don't want to be affiliated with any organization that has anything to do with guns. Honored American Veterans Association (HAVA) on the other hand, takes disabled Vets out to shoot and hunt.

Our club ran an event for the WWP before we knew their stance. Funny thing, they didn't refuse our money then. Of course, this was in the early stages of the WWP.

I agree with Sarge about the companies who we spend money with. Insurance companies, products (Levi's jeans), etc...

Find someone in your local community that needs help. Quietly give them the help they need. No Admin Fees, No Fuss and no politics. It will go a lot further than you will every now. AND always deny it was you.

Just Saying.

And if you are so inclined, read some of the disclaimers at some of the big department stores. Essentially when you hit their wifi, all is fare, whatever they can get from your device or IP packet is all theirs.....

Rant Mode ON: Which brings me another harp. Why in the hell is so many shooters/clubs/USPSA using Facebook when it is very clear how they feel about shooting sports. Come On! Rant Off.

What is this Facebook you speak of? My dislike of social media goes far deeper than its negative attitude towards firearms, believe it or not that's just the tip of the nasty yellow iceberg that is social media.

Than you and I are kindred spirits on this issue!

Thread Drift Alert: I had a date with reservations at some top notch place. Walked into her place - she was farming on FB - I waited, hinted, implied about being late- "wait just one more, I have to blah blah blah". This went on for about 10 minutes. I politely looked at her and said while pointing at the computer "Silicone" pointed back at me "real, and real is going - bye". Yes, she ran out and apologized, but damn. All this from I me, who makes a good money off of technology. Balance and variety is the Spice of Life!

Seriously, there are a lot of people that are needing. It may surprise you they are right by your door. Their ego, pride or whatever will not let them ask. But if you can sense it and they need something, even something small, it goes a long way. Sometimes it is just "fixing" something. A toilet leak, shower-head problem, checking the oil/add in a car. The little things. I get hassled every year into giving to UW. It is almost not an option. So I do it like taxes and bite the bullet. But, I tend to match or triple that with something local. Once again, if you can do it anonymously, it does go further.

I don't work for Kohl's but I do work in computer security and I can say for certain that Kohl's is most likely NOT maintaining that block list. Most likely, as with many other companies, they are subscribing to some third-party WiFi service which in turns subscribes to some other third-party Internet security service which in turn subscribes to some other third-party security vendor which maintains those block lists. I doubt Kohl's even knows what it is they are blocking or allowing.

That is probably just a default content filtering policy for whatever firewall they are using, not necessarily and evil plot by Kohl's HQ to restrict your rights. I bet sword, knife and other weapon sites are blocked too.

Actually, only 3.5% of donations to WWP go to veterans, as per last tax statement......

I agree with this statement.

A lot of Web proxies offer default category settings or levels of blocking (high, moderate, low) which may include "weapons," "Web forums," or "social media categories," any or all of which could be applied to Brianenos.com.

For example, as I recall OpenDNS's moderate blocking level blocks categories including weapons, gambling, alcohol, nudity, dating, and etc.

That doesn't mean that whoever applied policy is explicitly against weapons, alcohol, or dating; they might just be too lazy to customize and refine the default settings.

I have also refused to join AARP, I do not like there politics at all! It just proves you have to be very careful which charities you donate to, most of them are very disappointing with crazy admin fees and very little actually goes to the original worthy cause.

Alot of places use a general site blocker to keep out adult content like porn... Depending on the software, it can remove other sites. I remember the one at a old job blocked hotmail since it sounded adult to the filter. It could be by chance...
