Case won't fit gauge

Chevy

Recommended Posts

I had a very similar issue with a Dillon 550B and Dillon dies loading 9mm with 124 MG JHP's. After various adjustment of dies and a lot of research online seeing other people with similar problems I went the recommended route of using a Redding competition seating die. I've had no issues with several hundred rounds. I check each loaded round in a Dillon gage after some of the earlier rounds (pre-Redding) really locked up my M&P.

fwiw:

Like most, I use a lot of once fired 9mm range brass from various sources.

See all sorts of fired case dimensions & its equal across the board, does not matter the manufacturer.

I've had no issues using:

Station 1: RCBS Carbide Sizing/Decap Die

-&-

Station 5: Lee FCD

Here is an example w/

* Press: Hornady LNL & JACKETED Bullets

*Measurements from Random Three: 1x Fired WIN 9mm Brass:

* After RCBS Carbide FL Size/Decap:

- Case OAL: 0.7450 - .7455

- Neck/Mouth: .3730 - .3735

- Case Base above Ext. Groove: .3880 / .3880 / .3875

* After PowderFunnel PTX Flare / Powder Drop:

- Case Neck/Mouth: .388 to .3885 [Not the norm flare]

^ This has been backed out more, but its what I had it set to at the time. Using Jacketed bullets, & I flare just enough to top a bullet

* After Redding Competition Bullet Seating Die:

w/ Hornady 115 HAP:

- Case Neck: .382

* After Lee FCD 9mm:

- Case Neck: .377- .3775

- Case Base above Ext. Groove: .3865 - .3870

* Finished Round OAL: 1.075"

Personal Preference but with Lead/Plated/Poly Coated:

Case Prep w/ Clean-Lubed Cases

- Size cases with the RCBS Carbide Sizing/Decap & Lee FCD or Lee U Die which sizes/decaps

* I prefer this as I use either a Dillon Powder Check Die or RCBS Lock Out die in Station 3.

Lyman M Case Expander drops into Station 1, Powder measure only drops no-flaring of case, lockout die, seating die, taper crimp die to remove case flare.

* All my rounds fit in a case gauge, & drop in/out of Bar Sto & CZ 9mm chambered barrels nicely.

Hope this helps
