RangerTrace
After I squeaked by the chronograph at the Space City Challenge with a 167PF, I started taking my load a little more seriously and bought a chronograph. My load at SC was 180 grain Zero JHP over 5.1 grains of N320 loaded to 1.20. After buying a chronograph and trying 5.2 and 5.3 grains of N320 it appears I'm going to need 5.4 grains to average 950+ FPS. My 6" pistol has an AET barrel. So, if you don't mind, if you have a 6" pistol, please list your load and if you use N320, that's even better And yes I searched, and searched..... splashdown
Sounds like you're on the right track. If you use a 180 grain moly bullet, you'll probably be able to drop that charge weight to 4.2 to 4.4 grains.

h2osport
Try shortening it up a bit to 1.190 or 1.195. I am showing that I was at 5.0 gr N320 at 1.20 for avg 939. I shortened it up a little, and that pushed the pressure enough to averave 960fps. 180gr zero. Doing the load development side by side with a 5", the longer barrell lagged behind until the pressure got high enough(more powder or shorter aol), then it pulled away from the 5". latech15
We did some testing yesterday and got some interesting results that may indicate a significant pressure spike somewhere around 4.3-4.4 grains. We shot two different 6" guns. A new Bedell with an aet barrel and a Benny hill with a scheumann classic barrel. Both were shooting 180 grain bayou bullets. Both had generally the same velocities with ammo loaded to the same specs from two different loaders. 4.0 - 165pf 4.2- 167pf 4.4- 176pf The velocity jump between 4.2 gr and 4.4 gr is much greater than any other .2 gr jump leading up to that particular load. I always shoot for 171-172pf and I just cant seem to get it with n320 and the 180 bayou bullets. The 176pf load doesn't feel significantly different from the 167 load, so I'm not going to fiddle with it.

RangerTrace
Just for an update, my load made 172 PF at the DTC. 180 grain Zero JHP, over 5.4 grains of N320 to 1.20".
latech15
5.4 grains of N320 out of my gun with a 180GR bayou bullet got me to 180PF. I guess mine is just faster than some.

smoothdraw
I shot Ga state match around 70deg on my limcat 6 wildcat KKM barrel. i put 5.1gr of N320 behind 180gr FMJ Montana Gold, mixed brass, 1.195 OAL, Winchster rifle primer and my PF that day is 170.5. A month later i shoot NC in a chilly 50deg. I barely made PF at 165.5. I think i have a slow barrel. This winter i will bump my load Vihta Vouri N320 load to 5.2gr. I think 5.2gr is my sweet spot. I need to develop an alternate load for titegroup though since VVN320 is sometimes hard to find and getting really expensive.
