  1. Who’s excited? In the wake of the shadow 2 OR tanfoglio have realsed a stock II OR to go head to head in the optic divisions. Looks like it will use plates like the shad2 OR.
  2. I have the option to buy a factory new EAA Witness Hunter in 10mm or a current model IFG imported Gold Match. The hunter is of unknown manufacture year (online sale) and costs about 150 less, all said and done. It has the grips with full checkering. The Gold Match is matt black finish with the current style wood grips and the current slide cuts. Is there any real advantage to the current import longslide guns over the eaa ones? Or vice versa?
  3. Mag well report. 04/11/22 by AP All initial testing done with PD parts and Tanfoglio Stock Master in 9mm from PD. Zero internal extra parts all stock internals. Some testing is from personal hand fitment. Phenomenal machine work. IFG frames fit flawless zero blending Eric Xtreme grips need fitting to work with it (had to cut and fit mine ) Been slamming reloads like hell with it. Magwell "auto corrects" better than Toni System. A small hands version without relief cuts for better Traction (maybe diamonds cut) would be a nice option. I have zero play or wiggle. Screw stays tight without loctite. The lines and anesthetics match and flow with the 2021 Stock Master frames perfect. Rating from lots of Dry Fire with PD pads since aquired DF. 10/10 looks 10/10 function 10/10 fit to frame 8/10 personal hand fit and other non pd grips MAY need fitting 10/10 transitions and smoothness 9/10 auto correct. Very few hangups with PD well. 20/10 for speed increase 9/10 for material hardness and marklessness. 10/10 for several base pad fitments. Fit all, Taylor Freelance, Patriot Defense, Henning Gen1/2, Shock Bottle, etc. In summary; The Patriot Defense Magwell for Tanfoglio Large frames is the go to top editor rated pick for a magwell. I have tried EVERY magwell on the market to include Toni System, EGW, Tanfoglio Unica, Tanfoglio extreme and Tanfoglio Gold Team Eric. This Patriot Defense magwell tops them all in Function, fitment, and anesthetics. Second pick would be Toni System. I highly recommend for Divisions in USPSA/IPSC/3G. Open and Limited etc.
  4. After waiting impatiently to convert my Elite Limited into a proper open gun I finally got her put together! The latchkey part I was waiting on was the @PatriotDefense threaded coned barrel, and it seems to fit like a dream. While they had my gun I also had them give it a slide lightening cut, which also turned out amazingly. Great work on their part for only having my gun 3 weeks! Here's her parts list: Tanfoglio Elite Limited Patriot Defense Barrel EGW Titanium Comp (modified by PD) Henning Flat Trigger Henning Grips Taylor Freelance Mag Extensions I call her my SHINY AND CHROME WITNESS in honor of Mad Max Fury Road, open to suggestions for a real name I picked up a handful of PD's hybrid recoil springs too, so we'll see if I can't get her cycling when I finally get to take her out this weekend. I'll report on that as soon as I can. She may not be the sleekest open conversion out there with the weaver mount, but hey, she's mine!
  5. I'm very interested in buying a Tanfoglio Witness Hunter in 10mm. The only thing holding me back is i specifically want DA/SA not SAO. I understand the actions work essentially with the same parts, so I wonder could i add the interruptor to give it double action, or would it require more modifcations? I'm not even certain the hunter model has the same parts as the standard witness, but it seems probable. If i can put a witness interruptor in it that would be outstanding! If this isn't possible, or is highly impractical please let me know. If it is possible, please give me some details! I've never owned or handled one of these so i don't know their inner workings.
  6. Those that know me, know this has been a long time coming. Hope this is a helpful little nugget I wrote up. This is just some stuff I like and what I use. Having used just about every part and part combo this is what works for me. I have reasons for each part. I get alot of questions and i hope this finds some well. As always YMMV. @PatriotDefense @johnbu 9mm GT Stroked slide Beveled mag well(transition between mag well helps smooth reloads) Tuned 9mm Extractor(typically factory extractor is 38. 9mm needs more tension for reliability) Polished and Lapped rails. Also Tanfoglio 40s&w slides will and can to be tuned to run 9mm reliably with a 9mm barrel obviously. The Spare GT barrel that comes with the gun, can also be used with limited slide in conjuction with cone comp. This is basically what you have to do to the GTs and this is thee best parts and parts combos I've used and found. Enjoy.
  7. I have a new Tanfoglio Limited custom in 40 S&W that I purchased several months ago. I have shot it very little but have been having problems with it from the start. I Have tried a few factory brands with it as well as my hand-loads. It seems to function best with one of my hand-loads which is a little on the warm side with a hollow point bullet. I also occasionally get a stove pipe. but that may just be with a weaker hand load. It has the original recoil spring in it that came from the factory. Also, when racking the slide it is stiff and gritty. Where do I start to try to fix the problem? I have watched Memphis Mechanics videos but don't have the time to do all that work myself right now.
  8. This is all "pretend" but I need you guys to answer solid, truthful, and what you thoughts are. ****Admin create Yes/No pole if possible**** and room to explain reasons. MANUFACTURERS, AND COMPANY'S DO NOT COMMENT!!! ( Let's say (pretend) I've got a whole bunch of threaded bull barrels just spun up match grade...the beesknees. But then I blow your face away by also saying more universal and I also have a pile of NOT GT comps. Both sizes and items fit, limited, S2, and Gold team. Let's "pretend" I'm not going to release this stuff or even begun designing únill I've got a bunch of input. Also don't get too excited yet. This is purely hypothetical. What if you could buy a GT, ditch the v12 and factory barrel and drop parts readily available, simpler than 2011, as fast, soft ect and at almost 1/2 the price of a Domina or aNY Custom? Who would be like F*** yeah!!! And actually buy a Tanfo open gun. If a pretend package was available? Like I'm gonna just say GT 2k and open package 600. So let's just pretend about 3k you have a shorty or middy that's simpler than a 2011, same stroke length, and all the same damn benefits. In? Or Out. Even if you don't shoot or plan on open let's hear some weigh ins. Pretend I won the lottery. But let's not get over zealous or make assumptions. I sincerely am baffled. If the parts are there, for a BETTER, SIMPLER, platform wouldn't people build, or is the 2011 thing a followers fad and it's just had more market so everyone is worried about taking a chance and just plays follower? 9. Hello, Recently, I sent a brand new Tanfo Stock II over to Patriot Defense for their patented tuneup and barrel reaming. They also installed the extended firing pin, titan hammer, bolo, one piece sear, and Xtreme trigger. Out of the box the trigger was PHENOMENAL, both in DA and SA. Unfortunately, the first range trip was plagued with failure to feeds, and a weird "ca chunk" whenever the slide cycled. After perusing the forums here, it seemed I needed to chamfer off the breechface edge and polish the breechface. I got in contact with PD and they confirmed it was probably the breechface edge issue and gave the go ahead to chamfer the edge while also telling me Tanfo's need a 1000 rounds to break in. They even stated there were no issues when it was test fired at their facility? I chamfered off the edge and breechface little by little like everyone suggested until the failure to feed issue stopped, but the "ca chunk" continued. Thinking this issue stemmed from the wolff 8lb standard recoil spring, I tossed in a wollf 10lb standard spring to no avail and a factory 14lb spring which yielded the same result. After noticing weak ejection with softer ammo and sometimes rounds getting stuck with the slide out of battery, I bought a new extractor with the (9) stamp and an XP extractor spring to cross this off the list (the original had a bunch of machining marks and no (9) stamp). Next range trip, the "ca chunk" continues and within 100 rounds two were somehow stuck in the chamber while the slide was 1/8"- 1/4" out of battery. I had to take the gun apart to get the rounds out since the slide was stuck. This makes me think there is something wrong with the barrel after it was reamed, maybe. The mags I am using are brand new K9s. The issue happens with all mags (12) and all ammo. Everyone that has seen it in slow mo and shot it agrees it's not cycling right. Any thoughts??
  10. Hi all. I would appreciate some insight into my most current problem with my Tanfoglio Stock II. I've been working on this thing for about a month now trying to get it to work reliably in double and single action. And every time I think I have it sorted out a new problem emerges. I'll spare you EVERY detail, but some relevant background follows. After my first round of polishing the single action would not reset. I am using the stock disconnector. I filed down the material on the disconnector on it until it did (if it was a bolo it would be angle one I guess I'd call it). Got that fixed. A few hundred rounds in after that a new problem emerged where a slow trigger press in single action would drop the hammer back into a double action pull. This one took a lot of research to sort out how to fix it, but I eventually found a forum where CZ and Tanfos that were running into this issue could fix it by filing the wing of the disconnector into a 45 degree angle rather than a 90 degree angle. It worked. And has been working fine for about 500 rounds at least... ... Until, that is, I got back from the range the other day, broke down the pistol only to do a basic cleaning. Bore snake out the barrel, gun scrubber, towel off the residued areas, lube, oil, etc - nothing major. Put it back together. And now the hammer is dropping early in double action. Which is the possible problem that can emerge from filing that disconnector wing at the 45 degree angle that I mentioned I had to do earlier. FYI - I had the 18lb trigger plunger spring in there (paired with the 14lb as well as the 13lb PD hammer spring). I know that can cause the issue where the hammer drops early, as well. I switched back to the stock plunger spring to test and it's the same problem. Hammer drops early - like it never gets past the half cock mark. Looking at the disconnector (I'll post some pictures), the 45 degree angle I remember filing into it was not as severe as it looks to be now. There are also wear marks on the underside of the disconnector which I did not put in there. Good shot of the 45 degree angle Good shot of the wear *Couldn't post the actual images into the post - not sure why - but linked to a flickr account where I uploaded them* It seems to have worn very quickly and severely after those last 500 live rounds or so - not to mention I dry fire A LOT. Excessively even. And I guess that is where I struggle with what I should do now. Pretty confident I need a new disconnector. My question is ... WHY is this happening where I will fix something, function test it, and it will be 100% working and then a few hundred live rounds (probably a few thousand dry clicks to every hundred rounds) and a new problem emerges and in fixing that problem another problem can emerge as a result of the fix? Is excessive dry fire the cause of the wear? Is it that the stock disconnector is made of a material that once it is modified, its integrity is weakened and can wear faster? Basically... how can it be that I get everything working 100% and then something as insignificant as breaking the gun down to clean it can then just throw everything out of whack again? I'm considering getting a bolo instead of another stock disconnector. Would that be less prone to wear? Less finicky once it is fitted? Open to any and all suggestions. Thank you.
  11. So... got a bunch of stuff from Ben Stoeger for my new Stock 2. Amongst which was a 9# wolff recoil spring. Got the standard full slide version. And when this recoil spring is in the gun the rounds won't go into battery. Slide just won't close completely. Switch back to the stock spring and closes up just fine. It's like 2 or 3 coils longer than the stock spring and my understanding is it's SUPPOSED to be that way(?). I'm tempted to cut it tho and see if that fixes the problem. Should I snip snip or try to send it back to Ben?
  12. I have a 1976 Tanfoglio P19 Combat and wonder what recoil spring weight would be proper. This gun's specs differ from the ones I can find for later Combat models on the internet. For example, the gun weighs 950 grams instead of 1150.
  13. Picked up a PD tuned Tanfoglio stock 3 2 weeks ago...absolutely fell in love with the pistol. One big issue; can’t reach the mag release without breaking my grip. While I like the look of the wood grips, it isn’t going to work. Which grip should I get to remedy this?
  14. Does anyone know if the tristar p-120 or t120 make weight for idpa? Can’t be to far off of a cz sp01 weight right? Also is saving the money worth it or should I just get an sp01?
  15. This thing is awesome. In a small brief testing period of my own, it far beats out the V12. Less Powder, 115g Major, and much softer in hand. I do not have this barrel reamed by the good folks at PD yet. I was very anxious to test it out and quickly made up some loads I knew wouldn't touch major with a 115 from the V12, but Might with the Durso comp. Sure enough I made 166pf with 115g Blues over 7.9g of Power pistol. Loaded @ .....1.06. I can't wait to do more testing with a better powder and after reaming. Thoughts are on AA7.
  16. Rather new to guns so I’m looking forward to reading and learning from the veterans
  17. Has anyone been able to get their 170 MBX mags to run reliably? Not having a open 170 mag kinda stinks. Heard of the "squeeze" but have not heard if this was a final resolution for a trust worthy big stick. Info appreciated.
  18. I have a Tanfo Stock II Elite in 9mm I bought from PD earlier this year, and I have struggled with light strikes using factory ammo continuously. I’ve read through those related posts on this forum, repeatedly – but haven’t found a solution for my gun. I’m looking for confirmations on others who are running similar configurations, with *factory ammo* and also soliciting other suggestions (aside from reloading related solutions). I keep a detailed record of my gun, so I’ve tried to summarize my config and what I’ve done to debug this below. First, the gun was purchased NEW from PD earlier this year. I had Joe at PD do the following, before I first received the gun: Tanfoglio Tune: Polishing & Assembly, Barrel Reaming, PD Hammer springs, PD Firing Pin Spring, Reduced Sear & Reduced Trigger return springs Titan Hammer Sear BOLO Interrupter, BOLO pin Firing Pin Safety Block PD Optimized firing pin-extended PD Optimized Aluminum Guide Rod – Hard Anodized Coating EAA Witness Fullsize RP Recoil 9 lb (Wolf 49709) Initially started with PD 14 lb hammer spring Basically from day 1, I was unable to get the gun to fire any factory ammo without light strikes. They were usually in DA pulls, not in SA. At Joe’s recommendation, I bought a wide range of factory ammo and started testing. I tried Winchester white box, Freedom Munitions 147, Blazer Brass 115, Stand 1 Chubbies, Stand 1 full power, etc. I tested them all in DA modes, some failed much more frequently than others, but none of them could get below a 1% failure rate with 150 rounds. The ammo that performed the best, was Freedom Munitions 147gr. Winchester white box was one of the worse ones for me – which confused me since I started hearing people explain that Winchester and Federal primers are “softer” and easier to ignite. Eventually, Joe offered to re-examine the gun, ream the barrel again and look things over. I was also having a problem with failure-to-extracts, which Joe successfully resolved at this point by installing a higher power extractor spring, and doing some additional reaming of the extractor area. After Joe’s 2nd reaming and testing, he suggested we go up to a 15.5lb hammer spring and returned the gun to me. At first the light strikes were infrequent, but they increased as time went by. They also started happening in SA mode instead of just DA. Joe explained that the hammer spring would lose 20% of its power at 5K rounds and continue degrading from there. I attributed the increase FTF with the fact that the hammer spring was at 7K rounds, and I put a new one in. I also installed a fresh PD optimized firing pin spring at this same time – since the original one was close to 10K rounds at this point. My light strikes went up immediately following the install of these 2 new springs! Ever since then, I’ve been trying to resolve these light strikes. I have tried: 4 different firing pins (Henning G5, Xtreme, PD and factory) – with minimal difference I have also now trimmed my PD firing pin spring, removing around 7-8 coils (any further trimming and the spring gets stuck) I removed the firing pin safety block, and found no difference by doing that I also did another test of a wide range of factory ammo, and have started using Winchester “Train” ammo and found it to work better than the other ammo the pencil test, and confirmed the firing pin kicks my pencil a couple feet into the air (a friend who works on CZ’s a lot says mine goes 8-10” higher than his) I clean my gun pretty frequently, at least every 1,200 to 1,500 rounds – but because I’m frequently trying different springs/pins I usually end up cleaning it every 300-800 rounds I don’t use “grease” except a dab on the sear and trigger return springs, everywhere else I use oil. Currently I run my firing pin & fp spring without any oil/lube So, I’d like to hear from those who have a Tanfo Stock II Elite (large frame) 9mm, *especially* those who use factory ammo: What config do you have in your gun, especially hammer spring (brand and strength), firing pin brand & firing pin spring brand What factory ammo do you use, and how often (if at all) do you have light strikes? What is the pull weight of your DA trigger, with whichever hammer springs you use? Do you put any oil on your firing pin or firing pin spring? Again, I don’t have a press and I’m wanting to initially resolve this without going to reloading as a fix. I may go there later, but for now please assume reloading is not an option. Finally - a THANK YOU in advance to any insights / help you might be able to lend.. I am running out of ideas!
  19. Looking for race holster recommendations for the 9mm gold team. I have been running a DAA X and have not had stellar results. Though constructed well, I seem to get alot of binding no matter how I have adjusted it. Hoping others can share their experiences and suggestions. I may go a different holster direction if things don't work out. Thanks AP
  20. Background:I want to get into competition shooting with USPSA and IDPA (both are local for me). I am a little overwhelmed by the gun categories nuances--especially IDPA. Currently, I have a S/A XDS in 9mm (my carry gun) and an EAA/Tanfoglio Witness Full Size in 10mm. I absolutely LOVE shooting my Witness, but I think competition shooting in 10mm would get really expensive, really quickly.Question:Can anyone tell me if the Witness P Match and P Match Pro are legal for USPSA or IDPA, and in which categories? I think they are really sexy and would love to give one a try. However, I do not see either on the USPSA production gun list, and it appears from the specs on EAA's site that they would BARELY fit into the IDPA box. Links:http://eaacorp.com/guns/handguns/witness-p-match-tanfoglio-404http://eaacorp.com/guns/handguns/witness-p-match-pro-tanfoglio-410Thanks in advance!
  21. Looking at purchasing a new dot and am stuck between the DPP and Romeo 3. I have heard loads of good about both but would like to here more of the finer points. I ran a Vortex prior in 3moa but the brightness was less than efficient in the bright sun, but I liked the smaller dot for longer shots. So I'm undecided if I want to try a larger size 6 moa or 8moa. Any one have direct comparison or photos with both? Brightness and battery life? Durability? Window size? Ect. I want to be certain before I drop the cash. Thanks APOLO.
  22. Any of our members have the dimensions of an STI and Tanfoglio/CZ Hi cap mags? I need the width measurement for a project I am working on.
  23. Hello, all. New to this forum, but have been mining it for information for years. Recent transplant to the Richmond VA area by way of south west Missouri. B class Limited Minor shooter who came to his senses and switched to Production. Looking forward to what I can learn from here.
  24. I bought a stock 2 used. It was OK but not like the new one I had previously. In the new one I had put a bolo and titan hammer and some other Patriot Defense parts. The used one I tried to do the same to it but had no luck at all. Was having strange problems. So I bit the bullet so to speak and sent to Patriot Defense to have their gunsmith look at it. It is like a different gun. It runs better than my original. Just wanted to throw a shout out to Joe and JoAnna for getting it taken care of in approx. 1 week and doing such a great job on it. I am one happy customer Mark
  25. I have a 38 super Witness Gold Team - I'm looking for a 9mm hybrid barrel to make it a 9mm open gun. It does not appear that EAA carries these... does anyone know a source for a 9mm open barrel (even just the comp is fine... the hybrid seems a bit 'over' compensated) for the Witness Gold Team? Thanks!
