Question for the experienced: I was a police officer for ~5 years (mostly as a reserve, some full-time but now "just" a paramedic, I enjoy being on "the other side" better). During that time I carried and qualified with a Glock 21. I know that gun as if it's a part of my body. I'm a C-class Single Stack shooter (less than a year in USPSA) who's about to seek a classification in Production and I had a 9mm handgun I'd been working with to start with. Recently, however, I've found a 45 load that meets minimum power factor but is otherwise 'minor,' which isn't a problem since all production is minor. It's Federal's Gold Medal Match, 185gr, 770fps. Any thoughts on using this for an occasional production match? It's expensive ammo so it's not something I'd be buying but I've got a source to get some as part of a trade deal and it would probably be enough for a match or two. If it worked out well it might be enough to propel me into reloading and working up a similar load at better costs. Thoughts on "45 minor" vs 9mm?

Long time Prod shooter and I just can’t torture myself anymore at local matches. I’m officially a LM guy now. This is my dilemma. I have 6 well used and 100% reliable mags. 3 are MecGar 17 rounders, three holes marked 5,10,17. Blue follower, flat bases, stock from MecGar. These were my go-to mags, bombproof. The other 3 are factory SP01 mags, three holes marked 5,10,18. The tubes are longer on these than on the MecGar mags, black follower, basepad comes up over the bottom of the magazine tube. I can only fit 17 and 18 respectively in each mag and I’d like to up the capacity of at least one of my mags (ideally two) to maximum, whatever that may be, without effecting my perfect reliability, gun/mags are at about 18-20k round count and I’ve never had so much as a hiccup. Being a prod guy for years means I got to ignore all the info about basepads/springs/followers… Which mags should I use to go for max cap and what parts should I use? I’m looking to avoid filing or scrubbing length off of new parts. I have a L2 match coming soon so they will be checked, first one for me also, and I really don’t want to bomb it over mag length drama. Basically, expert advice is needed to help a frustrated Prod guy jump divisions successfully.

Ok. Shooting USPSA Production Division. Keeping both eyes open I still see double vision. I see two sights and two targets. I know what sight and target to use and I really concentrate on the the front post. Just wondering if the double vision thing is normal. Thanks.

Rolling 1911s into Production. I know this sounds Un-American. The country needs a Special Council to even bring this up. But. I travel to different clubs and mostly Level 1 matches. No one is shooting 1911s. It is gone. Out of 80 shooters maybe 1 or 2 will shoot 1911s. It is dead in the 200 miles North and South from my home in S. Florida. I like shooting Single Stacks. Sadly, there is no competition and we are competitors. With 9mm SS, it is easy with 10 rounds, with 45s, it is 8 and major. All the original ideas of opening a box and shooting Production as a starter division is long gone. So why not wrap 1911s into Production and this way we can shoot our classic pistols and still be scored with a larger group. Yes I can continue with my Glock 19s and there really is no substantial difference between the results. My glock 19s probably have almost invested in triggers as the 1911s. Let’s move the 1911s, make it provisional and see if we can bring back the SS world into 2018. DVC jon

So, I'm thinking of competing again in USPSA after a long break involving nasty range politics and an even more nasty hand injury (separate events). My Limited rig is an old Tanfo Limited, works fine but I'm looking to just shoot production for simplicity's sake. I've shot production with my wife's M&P9, and its ok, but it never really fit my hand. Besides its hers. I don't have a production setup, so starting from scratch. While at the local fun store, I put a few poly framed 9's in my mits. The CZ p09 just felt wrong. Nothing felt really good, but the FN 509 was excellent. The HK vp9 and Beretta Apex were close, but still not like the 509. So I get online and look at the research. I could go with the longslide FNS-9 for longer sight radius. But the new gun with a warranty is probably better, right? I know Glocks fit my hand ok, but the grip angle felt better on the FN. So what to do, say you the inter-google-web? Go with the FN 509 with its mediocre trigger and lack of support or with something else? I mean really the "lack of support" just means I can't customize, but do I need to in Production anyways? I shot one match with a Glock, and it was fine, but it was like "meh, whatever" and I never thought I would go out and actually buy one. I can make a kydex holster (already done a few), I reload so I can tune loads, and I do well with the light 9mm platform. Oh, the 92fs also feels great to me, so yes I must have a weird hand or something. I'd like to be competitive, but I doubt that I will ever spend the time needed to be a M or GM, or shoot nationals or go pro. Just looking for for opinions on the FN or other striker guns that maybe I need to look at.

Hi All, This Is my first post so please forgive me if I don't follow the forum etiquette correctly. I've been Shooting Production for about a year (14 Matches). I have been using Black Scorpion mag pouches. They worked fine but have to many screws that like to back out. I was running a Black scorpion belt but have upgraded to the very stiff DAA belt (and love it).Im now in the market for new pouches. My question is which pouches do yall recommend for Production division shooting a Glock 34? I have done some research and have narrowed it down to CR Speed, DAA Racer, and just started looking in to Ghost. I've read a few threads on here about pouches but most are focused on limited or open. The CR Speed's have the cut out for finger indexing but I see a lot of people using the Racers also. Is this something that is crucial? I'm not looking to go bullets out. Thanks in advance for Any and All advice.

Sunday, April 28th, 2019....IPSC 66 (also known as the Wayne County Raccoon Hunters Club in Romulus, Michigan) will be hosting our first ever Southeast Michigan Lo Cap Championship for Single Stack, Production, L10 and Revolver Divisions only. 9 stages, 230+ rounds in a 1 day format for a $60 match fee of American Funds (just an FYI to our many Canadian competitors). This is our normal shooting weekend so nothing special has to be planned for by those that try to make out match every month. For those $60, you will get a the above mentioned 9 level III stages, 230+ rounds, plaques for all recognized divisions and most classes and entry into the gun giveaway raffle that we have. We are looking to give away 2 1911's and 2 polymer guns to by random draw to any competitor that pays their match fee. (if you DQ at the match, you are out of the drawing...…..). Roadrunner Shootout was a bust for me. Don't get me wrong, the match was very well run (great call on handing out some of the random draw prizes during the match), the tri-tip was great (so were the hot dogs) and the stages offered a good variety of challenges. And what a beautiful range! Seriously, Roadrunner was my first match at CCPL and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My goal was top 5 production (stretch goal: the podium). My result PS Link https://practiscore.com/results/new/e85fe077-25b3-45a2-a940-e0e65969f9ac?q_division=6 General Thoughts On My Performance Looking beyond the obvious DQ I just felt way, way outclassed by rest of the field. I DQ'd on the very last stage so I had plenty of footage and Practiscore Data to comb through--a big thanks to the other Production Shooters who posted their full match vids. Very informative. Most of the stage plans were close. In comparison to some of the top Production shooters what really stuck out to me is short movement--especially when combined with a reload. I'm just way too slow and to make matters worse I just don't know how to push that reload faster in a match. It's something of a habit that's been around for years that I've never been able to fix. I'm also not sure why I sometimes will Grapevine/Carioca when it seems that everyone else just shuffles over. Lack of confidence evident in the multiple makeup shots (why not just get the shots right in the first place?). And I hate to be that guy, but my splits are just utterly pathetic on 3-10 yard wide open targets. Or perhaps wildly inconsistent. I think it's a confidence thing. Kind of like that weird flinch at the start of Stage 7. There were also a couple of instances of the "third sight picture" (i.e., letting the gun return after you have taken your final shot on that target). The funny thing is that I entered the match with the "Alpha-hunt" mentality. I figured the speed would be what it is. I usually get positive feedback/remarks on my speed so I figured I wouldn't think about speed (transitions and movement) and really focus on alphas. Mixed results on that front. Sometimes I pushed a bit harder and that resulted in charlies. Too much "extra" stuff (shots/movement/un-necessary reloads/sight pictures/ . . .) that needs to be trimmed out. But that's just me. I'd be curious to hear what you see. Production A-Class. In order of stages shot Day 1 Stage 8 - Jailbreak This stage was actually thrown out. Apparently, one of the clamshells was struck by a bullet and developed a bit of a timing lag that couldn't be corrected (they were supposed to be an even drop time & speed). Aside from the misses on steel, this stage felt okay. It was nuked from PS before I could pull it with full results. Didn't get into position on the first array (evident in the re-alignment) Stage 9 - Helltown Missed my positioning when first entering the towards the middle of the covered walkway resulting in weird short-steps to cover the remaining distance. Way too many charlies considering the target distance. This brings me to one of the "fundamental misunderstandings" of mine: Stage Hit Factor. My gut was saying "Close targets, uncomplicated movement, no activators/swingers/sequences . . . High Hit Factor . . . Burn it down". Can someone help me understand this, please? I feel like that's going to be a watershed moment--understanding how to read a stage beyond simply picking shooting positions and engagement orders. Kind of like the first time I took a 3rd person video of myself. That resulted in me actually trying to run--though I clearly need to work on that in certain situations. A more astute production shooter noted that the stage favored good hits (most targets were within 3 yards). I should have listened. Stage 10 - How Now Brown Cow I wanted to be faster. I should have been more accurate/precise. A shooter in the back makes a great point. Why did I leave the back line to that extent (look how far forward I strayed) when my next position was the back left corner? The only thing I could think of is foot positioning and the idea of a sidestep. Having my left foot so far forward (due to the beginning lean) and pointed at what I was engaging as opposed to where I needed to go next surely didn't help. Had I kept my original orientation, the sidestep would have been more parallel to the back fault line thus saving a bit of movement at the cost of a slightly tighter shot between the wall and doublebarrel. I also had to pump the breaks to take a makeup shot (I'm pretty sure I made up a mike). That forced the extra movement to allow me to engage the targets through the port. The miss was on the no-shoot sandwich upon re-entering the shooting area. Guess which target I missed? Headbox strikes again! Stage 6 - Acme Tactical Sequence went okay (2 Charlies) Dropped the mag, but recovered okay. Good job getting the gun up and ready. Way too many shots for that array but not enough shots at the next array to justify a mag change (I think it was a panic response because that reload was not in my plan) Bumbled reload into the port Bumbled final reload (I rarely pull that 5th mag) and grapevined my way to the final position. The very last shot was to account for a ::ahem:: No Shoot. At least the makeup shot wasn't in the white, too. Stage 7 - Better Safe Hesitation on that first shot. Rounding the corner felt okay. Believe it or not, I was pretty far away from the port compared to a quite a few I observed. Not doing well on headshots is a recurring theme (that killed me at GridIron 2018). What are those splits on the open targets before the end? Like 0.9 or something? Yikes. Fortunately my stage plan allowed for exactly one makeup shot to allow for a quick finish (i.e., take the final target without having to reload into position . . . because I can't do that quickly enough for such a short move). Day 2 Stage 3 - Nutcracker Confidence, confidence, confidence. Be decisive. I don't recall seeing any Production shooters trying the "sequence" (i.e., steel, steel, hardcover target, swinger). There were probably a few who did, but I made the decision not to try the sequence. Just way too slow from position to position. I rehearsed that final steel sequence a million times yet couldn't execute. Seriously, do you know how many times I repeated the phrase "reload diagonal left. 4 USPSA steel. Half-step right. IPSC, USPSA, IPSC"? Stage 4 - I Miss That Kind of Clarity Mike into the wall (I didn't run back far enough and tried to lean). Enough said. It's a zero anyway. Stage 5 - Tunnel Rats I think that was the first cooper tunnel I've had to run through. Not bad. I guess being 5'6" on a good day came in handy for once. Did you see the finale of the 3rd Season of The Expanse? If you did then you probably remember Holden's plea to Ashford. During that USPSA mini popper engagement it felt like I was hearing his plea just slightly modified. "I know your trying to save [your Hit Factor]. I am too. But we're on the brink right now, because we keep reacting to things we don't understand. We're scared, we're hurt, and we're reaching for [speed] because we can't figure out what to do. But just this once, can't we try something else!?" Okay. How about 4 shots on a wide open target? Stage 1 - Where's Steve? I really did bury the first two shots on the skunk/tuxedo in the black. Trigger freeze at the end. Mike came from position three on the hardcover target. Mikes hurt. A lot. Stage 2 - Prime Time I didn't even get to run into the room as my barrel lug broke and my ham-fisted attempt at clearing the gun resulted in me punching it out of my hand before the RO declared "range is clear". Again, the staff did it right. I took the DQ and kept a convivial demeanor for the rest of my time there. What if? Well, I played the "what-if" game and noted the following: If I hadn't DQ'd and the stage was scored as is, it would have been a zero and I would have landed in 17th place If I had won the stage by slimmest of margins (according to PS Competitor: 32.45 seconds clean OR an additional C:x0.41 Seconds Per Occurrence (SPO) D:x0.81 SPO M:x3.04 SPO) then I would have come in 9th. So the bottom line is that I did not meet my goal of a top 5 or podium finish and I'm out of the running for the Triple Crown. Crossroad That leaves me at an interesting crossroad: Should I continue the season with Production knowing that I can't place in the Triple Crown and that I'm not likely to be able to go to Low-Cap Nationals? -OR- Should I take the plunge in to Carry Optics for the remainder of the season (including 2 more Level II matches) with the possibility of going to Hi-Cap Nationals? I can always hop back into Production mode for the 2019 GridIron (scheduled for mid October). I'm kind of leaning towards the latter. I slapped a Vortex Viper onto a Performance Center slide I picked up for cheap and I'm really liking the visual feedback (aside from the refresh rate issue and my slight astigmatism smearing the dot a little bit). I even tried focusing on the front sight post while using the dot solely as a reference for flinching. It was encouraging to see how little the dot moved. I don't exactly lack the facilities to practice. In fact, I was voluntold to direct our 4 stage match and I made it a point to let everyone know that I'd leave the range open for a couple of hours to allow for practice (actual practice!). Maybe I should take myself up on that offer. Moving Forward Which leads me to the big item (regardless of the Production vs. Carry Optics decision): I want to develop agility drills (or mini stages) but I'm not sure what the time standards should be . . . for the drills/stages that I haven't even conceived yet. The 4 stage match is meant to be convenient for those who shoot the afternoon rimfire match. There's a push (perhaps just from me) to keep the stages quick but still challenging. So, I'm thinking that since our regular 5+1 Classifier match tends to lean towards 32 stage field courses it might be fun to put together some short choppy movement stages that emphasize quick, precise movement into (and out of) position. A look back in slight frustration I always harp on "immediacy" being the place where a lot of people can cut boatloads of time. But beyond that it appears to be the short moves that are killing me. Long straightaways? No prob! Can I be immediate when it comes to breaking grip and grabbing a mag after finishing an array? You bet! But one-step/two-step? More often than not I look like a duck waddling cautiously to the next position (00:16 seconds). Hand speed and foot speed just look so slow. I've heard the challenge before: "Could you beat yourself from last year?". Well, most of the footage above is from 2017 and 2018. I wouldn't want to square off against that version of me. Except maybe 2017 GBC me. I think I could hang with that guy. Who was in C Class at the time. On the plus side, I feel that if I can properly channel this frustration/embarrassment into an actionable plan then maybe, just maybe I might be able to throw down a respectable performance at a major.

Alright a new season has started. I am super stoked for 2019. 2017 was my first non-level one match (Local) where I won production B class at the Indiana Sectional. In 2018 I shot my second level II match and again got a class win at the Indiana Sectional, but this time in A class. 2018 I shot my first ever match outside Indiana and first match above a level II, the USPSA Factory Gun Nationals (Production). I was able to walk away with 6th in A class and 53rd overall out of over 240 in production. I was really excited to see that I can occasionally hang with the big dogs, I even finished 3rd on stage 11 at 96.93% of the stage winner. I started this sport a little late in life at 49, and now 5 years into it, I can see why they set the age for senior at 55. I can definitely feel old age starting to creep up… Honestly, I always thought it would be great to make Master I but never really thought it would be possible. Last year I made production A class and spent a day and a half with Shannon Smith, and I think reaching Master just may be possible. Although, the recent updates to the classifier high hit factors really hurts… I know it’s generally not recommended, but I’ve started shooting classifiers a lot in practice. Since Master is my goal, it seems to make sense to use classifiers as a benchmark to test myself against and learn from. Not to mention I really stink at classifiers in general… My early live fire training was focused on a lot of field course work. This was really helpful with transitioning from running/moving to accurate shooting modes and seemed to make me fairly successful in matches overall, but I perform poorly in classifiers. Long story short… I need help. I’ve really put a lot of work into getting where I’m at today and improvements seem to be harder to come by. I’ve currently got several issues I’m dealing that I’ll detail in my next post. It really boils down to pride. B class was good, and I’m was super happy when I made A class, but “Master” really sound nice. I know the rules state that you cant use a race type holster in production division. Does anyone know if either one of these holsters count as a race holster? They have 2 different cuts.

Since all the changes to prod are afoot, while shooting a stock 3, what besides what was leagle before ie hammer and springs can be done to help give an competitive edge.

I've been thinking about this for awhile in regards to the rule below. Manually decocked guns should be allowed to go to half cock for 3 reasons. 1. Consistency of hammer position between decocker and safety models (e.g. CZ SP01 Shadow vs CZ SP01 Tactical) 2. Manually decocking to a half cock notch is safer and easier for shooters to accomplish 3. Will give shooters with short fingers the ability to safely and effectively pull long DA triggers. It makes sense, let's make it happen.

I want to shoot both IDPA and USPSA with a CZ. which CZ is best for that?

Attention rule gurus! I want to do a glue grit job to my gen 3 Glock for production. However, in reading up on the best way to do the grit job, it seems like I need to take some material off the grip so the epoxy and grit adheres better and to maintain the stock grip circumference. Does this violate D4, 22.2? "Grips – any addition or removal of material which changes the factory profile or adds function such as beavertail or thumb rest."

Here is the RDS plate system for the SP01 Shadow / 75 Shadow. able to mill the slide for interchangeable plates. For the SP01 Shadow / 75 Shadow we also have a rear sight plate that meets the guidelines for production, weight and profile. So you are able to go back to production. The plate cut can be done B model ( pistols with a firing pin block), but we do not have a rear sight plate yet for that. The plate cut is not offered for the P10, P07 and P09 ( we offer an RMR BUIS sight cut, and can mill for specific red dot sight). Hi there all, I'm still new to the forum, so I apologize if I inadvertently posted this in the wrong place. I have been a long time Glock shooter for defensive use, and have been using several in limited division USPSA for the past few months. While I love the Glock platform, I've been experimenting with other options lately, and after wandering about a bit, seeing where I want to be in this game, I think I'm going to transition over to a CZ Shadow 2, and shoot production division. I recently purchased an STI Apeiro .40 without shooting one, for use in limited, and found that while the gun functions well, I don't like the recoil profile, the overall feel, and a few other things, so i will be letting that go. In the interest of avoiding a similar scenario, i was curious if the people that had shot the Shadow 2 had any observations worth considering before I purchase one ? Any comment on the platform is appreciated, maintenance issues, odd recoil characteristics, parts that tend to break, safeties that kick on unintentionally, sights that fall out of dovetails, parts that tend to need to be replaced early (like extractors in an STI), triggers that don't reset correctly, irregular trigger pulls, anything that annoys or vexes you. Hi there guys, the the title says most of it, I'm relatively new to USPSA and having shot limited thus far am likely switching over to production. I have been looking for solutions to consolidate space for mag carriers, but I am unclear on the legality of the Comp-tac Beltfeed mag carrier system, which looks like a good use of space. I have read the USPSA rules, and I dont have the relevant measurements on the mag carrier system to verify legality. I have had a CRO essentially say it could be legal, but she was unable to provide a definite answer. I was curious if anyone out there is using it, and could confirm it was in fact legal.

Picked up a # of WST to test out for my Production and CO pistols. I'm planing to load to 1.130-1.140 OAL with Blue Bullets 147gr. I've tried to do a search but not a whole lot of info on the WST. Right now I'm planning to do a ladder test from 3.4-3.6gr with 0.1gr increments. Does that sound about right? How to you like WST for Production? I've only used Titegroup (and Bullseye, sparsely) for 9mm Production. How does WST compare to Titegroup? Thanks

I shot this 8th overall out of 36 at my local lvl 1 match HF:4.7083 . Solid B class run, managed to be second best Prod shooter and even beat the guy whole won the match shooting prod no less

I have a P320 X-Five coming my way and I was wondering if anyone here may already have some recipes. Looking for any load recipes for use in Production, Carry Optics, Steel and 3-Gun. I will be loading in 9mm using 124gr JHP/CMJ projectiles with either CFE Pistol or Titegroup powders. I'd appreciate any help or recommendations. Thanks!

I have both, neither are on the "good guy" list @ USPSA. I've gotten a email from Troy @ USPSA saying neither has been submitted for approval?. I've sent 2 emails (no phone# for them) to Canik USA and not a peep from them. I also emailed the importer, Century Arms and no response from them either???...Now I'm seeing reports that there may never be approval as they are considered "single action" only, even though they mimic several "approved" pistols that are on the "good guy" list @ USPSA. Update info please....

So I was wondering whats the most you can do in production to your gun, frame cuts, trigger pull, sights, etc. Also Is stippling allowed in production?
