  1. My search results came up empty but I'm looking for load data using 115 grain Montana gold bullets and CFE pistol powder for major with a 38 Super comp Brazos gun. I know you have to make around 1480 ish fps. Is that going to be too much?
  2. I just switched from MG's 124's CMJ's with an OAL of 1.160" which worked flawlessly in my Gen3 and my son's Gen4 G34's. I switched to the MG 147 CMJ's and kept the 1.160" OAL. No issue in my Gen3 but the Gen4 has constant feeding problems. Am I running them too long??? The 124's were a rounded nose and the 147's have that small flat spot in the front (look more like a trapezoid). Sounds like some people are running MG 147's around 1.130-1.140" Thanks for the feedback
  3. Is anyone using CFE Pistol for 38 super major with 124gr projectiles? If so, how much and what OAL? Sorry if this is a repeat thread, but all my searches came up with loads for 9mm major. Thanks!
  4. I use a S&W M&P Pro and was wondering what OAL using Montana Gold bullets you all find works well in that gun. These are the various weights I load: 115 gr. CMJ 124 gr. CMJ 147 gr. CMJ 147 gr. HP Any suggestions are welcomed!
  5. Has anybody here loaded the 200gr MG jfp with 231? I am not finding any data for it but sierra makes a bullet that appears identical other than the jacket material. 231 data for the sierra bullet is 5.6-6.5grains. Anybody see why starting at 6 gr would present a problem? I'll be using this load in an Ed Brown Carry, older KImber 1911, Ruger 1911 and a series 80 Bill Wilson pin gun. Thanks in advance for any information you guys ( and gals) might have. Rick
  6. Hoping to draw on the collective wisdom here. I finally managed to do a reloading/training session with a close friend of mine, to the point that he's produced his first loads. LnL AP w/Redding dies + Lee FCD, set up to do seat + crimp separately. With components being what they are, he picked up what he could, and I started him out on 9mm vs. jumping into rifle. He's got a jug of HS6 which seems better suited for 9mm Major, which isn't of use to him (range shooting from a Glock and SIG in 9mm, eventually trying to nudge him into competitions). I gave him 1k of Montana Gold 124gr JHPs until he can find his own preferred bullets. I've seen many people mention loading MG JHPs similarly to Hornady XTPs of the same weight, and while there is some HS6 9mm Minor load data out there, but it's a bit all over the place, so wanted to poll the crowd, as I don't load HS6.. Hornady's load data seems a bit conservative in this case, but let me explain. HS6 Min load for 124gr XTP: 5.1gr 900FPS Max: 5.9gr 1050 FPS From Hodgdon: 125gr LCN, HS6: Min: 5.9gr 1023FPS Max: 6.6gr 1124FPS 125gr Sierra FMJ: Min: 6.4gr 1131FPS Max: 6.8gr 1169FPS Speer: 124gr GDHP (thick plated), HS6 Min: 6gr 951FPS Max: 6.7gr 1059 FPS Sierra: 125gr FMJ or JHP, HS6 Min: 5.4gr 950fFPS Max: 6.6gr 1150FPS Except for the Hornady XTP and LCN data, they all seem more or less consistent, and I'd expect to find a decently performing, safe (but maybe dirty?) load somewhere in the 6.x range. If Hodgdon's pressure data is the be believed, even 6.8gr may be well below SAAMI max pressure. Having said that, just now close are MGs in performance to XTPs vs for example, a Sierra FMJ? Out of my guns w/WSF, the MG JHPs seem to be a reasonably fast bullet at the chrono, meaning I'm good at the lower side of charges and still making 130+ PF easily. I'll likely wind up chrono-ing his loads for him due to his limited spare time. If not for seeing the XTP load data, I'd be starting loads at 5.8gr vs the rest of the load data, on up to 6.4gr or so in .2gr increments for the chrono. With Hornady data + the listed max at 5.9gr (with what seems to be quite low velocity), I had him churn out some test rounds at 5.6gr, 5.8gr, and 6.0gr, at a relatively long OAL of 1.11" (fine for both his 9mms), which I'll chrono next week. Target in this case is simply making a consistent, safe, reasonably accurate 130-ish PF load to cover any gun games he wants to but hasn't yet gotten in to, which would be right at ~1050FPS to slightly higher if we find accuracy differences to be significant from there. Is that MG -> XTP correlation valid at all? If so, is Hornady XTP load data that conservative? I'd expect little issue in going to 1050-1100FPS with such a slow powder, but Hornady's maxxing out at 5.9gr/1050FPS.. ???
  7. I've been researching this forum for 2 months now and have gotten so many different answers and opinions that my head is spinning. Anyone willing to help a novice reloader get a test batch loaded and not destroy my brand new Zev race gun? I am looking for a 9major recipe using the following components: Zev Open G17 with a KKM match barrel and a Zev Major comp. Reloading components: Montana Gold 9mm 124 gr JHP Mixed range once fired brass Winchester small pistol primers HS-6 (I already have found great tips and recipes for using Autocomp, so no need to share recipes for that powder) My questions: What's a reliable OAL for use in the Glock? Most of the answers i'm getting revolve around a S_I or custom 1911 What's a good start and max load with powder? My goal is 1375 fps using a F1 Shooting Chrony. One last note to share with you all: I've asked Zev to share what recipe they use to QC the pistol and their answer was that they don't share recipes. All I can surmise is that this is a liability issue.(?)
  8. We produced our first run of 9mm ammunition this afternoon using a Dillion RL550B press. We made 35 test bullets using 124 gr. Montana Gold bullets, Titegroup powder, CCI primers and nickel plated brass from Precision Delta. We took them to the range and fed them through my Taurus PT809 and a CZ 75 B. All fired off without a hitch. We're pretty pumped and feel we're ready to get going on a full production run. Thanks to all on this forum for all the words of reloading wisdom, you guys are the best.
  9. Reliability and consistency are the 2 most important criteria followed by reduced felt recoil produced by the powder/bullet combo and finally I need enough accuracy to shoot a 6inch to man sized target 20-25 yards freehand (IDPA). As long as total cost per round stays somewhere below .20cents around. Reduced noise and muzzle flash and temperature (cold) resistant powders (falls under reliability) are bonuses I'd be willing to pay more for. Constant Variables: -I plan on using 124gr Montana Gold CMJ (which I believe are electroplated). That is about the best I can find as far as bullets go that are IN STOCK. -I run a Glock G34 with 14lb recoil spring -Dillion 650 press -Federal Small Pistol Primers (have 7k of them left) -Brass Casings I am considering ordering Precision Delta 124gr JHP. This is since Hollow Points are said to be "more accurate" due to the uniform base, and center of gravity = more stability. These are on Backorder but are $20 cheaper than the MG I ordered ($90 vs $110) So Which Powder??? Will it be OK to use a faster burning powder due to the plated rounds. Another reason I'm considering the Precision Deltas JHPs on backorder. So far I've narrowed it down to -Titegroup -Solo 1000 -VV 320 -VV 340 (I had bad experience with Winchester WSF nothing against Winchester I just have a bad taste in my mouth from my previous experience would like to try something different) Really leaning heavily towards the VV320. Should I consider the 340 with the Montana Gold CMJ?
