  1. OK, I'm having some issues getting my idea accomplished and I figured this forum would be a good place to try to get some info and or help. I have a Witness Match in 10mm. I would LIKE to install a compensator (2/dual port preferably) on it but it is becoming a difficult process. I know I'll need a longer barrel (6") and a longer guide rod, both will need to be cut down and the barrel will be threaded. The current guide rod spring should be usable. I've contacted EAA and Tanfoglio and neither one has a "kit" that will fit so that's out. I could buy a standard upper and and comp kit but that gets spendy and defeats my purpose of buying a Match. Does anyone have any ideas or helpful info. I know it won't be cheap but it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg plus my first born. I have found one used comp on a different forum but the person doesn't respond to emails. One last question, is a .40 comp the same as a 10mm? I know the diameter is the same but does the longer cartridge make a difference? Thanks to anyone who can help

  3. Does anyone make a replacement rear sight for the Walther Q5 match. The OEM sight leaves much to be desired for as far as sight picture and notch depth goes. I'd really like a Dawson rear for it however for some god forsaken reason the Q5 match does not use a PPQ dovetail cut. Taken from the owners manual "The dovetail cut for the rear sight is a 12mm x 2mm x 70° LPA cut. The height of the front sight is 0.21” (5.3 mm)." is this dovetail cut similar to any other common rear sight that I can possibly modify?
  4. Searched around for this topic and was surprised it hadn’t been covered lately. Also got a million unrelated results because “major” and “match” pop up from time to time here! Title says it all. I’m gearing up for my first major match. I’ve only been able to shoot 4 stage indoor matches so a Level II brings a host of unknowns, mostly related to logistics and the Chrono stage. How does the chrono “stage” even work? I give RO a mag or they choose? How many rounds will they shoot? I just don’t want to embarrass myself do anything that makes me look like I’m gaming it. Supplies- what are things that someone who shoots one hour indoor matches would forget or have no idea about relating to an all day affair? Weather should be in 70 range but it could rain I guess. Other miscellaneous advice? Thanks in advance.
  5. So i'm finishing up my Lim Pro for production and want to build up my Match as a limited gun. I have a couple questions: Canyon Creek Customs appears to be out of the MATCH (weld on) magwell - http://shop.canyoncreekcustom.com/product.sc?productId=16&categoryId=3 I've emailed to see if they plan on making more but with no response as of yet. Does anyone have a Canyon Creek MATCH magwell they aren't using? Second question: Can you, with a little elbow grease and a dremel tool, make a Henning magwell fit the Match frame? Or are they too different? (here's the Henning magwell - http://henningshop.com/products/tanfoglio-competition-magwell-h069)
  6. I'll be in town for work Monday June 25th till Thursday June 28th, are there any local weekday matches around St Louis?
  7. The 2017 Shooters Source SW 3 Gun Championship Match will be on on November 18th at Triple C Range in Cresson, Texas. It is a 1 day, 6 stage match for shooters that participated in shooting at one of the monthly Texas clubs listed below since April 2017. The Championship Match will count towards your final series point’s total, which will determine the series winner of each division. Awards will be given for the top finishers in each division, the top 20% of each division will win cash during the Shoot-out Finale, and everyone will be entered into a random draw prize table. The top 20% of shooters from each division (using scores from the Championship Match only) will qualify to be in the shoot-off and awarded cash prizes. 8. So I'm working up my Match into a limited gun but want to keep the same feel as my Lim Pro I've been shooting in Production. One of the things I'd like to do is use the DA/SA curved trigger in SAO. So I dropped in an extra EAA / Tanfoglio Witness Large Frame DA/SA Trigger (for reference http://benstoegerproshop.com/eaa-tanfoglio-witness-large-frame-da-sa-trigger-102014-1/) I had lying around and while it works the trigger doesn't stay back into 'SA' mode. This means that there is a lot of 'takeup' in the trigger as it's releasing all the way out to the max of that DA every time. Do I have to do the full conversion to DA/SA in order to get the same trigger feel? (Though I'd shoot it in Limited cocked and locked) Or what am I missing to get the trigger to stay back in SA? I'm also thinking about adding a Pre-Travel adjustment screw to the trigger I have and just try a 'bubba enhancement' similar to the pre-travel screw that comes with the factory trigger. Worse case scenario I ruin a trigger I'm not going to use anyways. Thoughts?
  9. I like to watch GM match video to review their techniques. Please post a link to your favorite video that you have found useful examples of technique.

  11. Registration is open for our April match (Saturday April 16th). Registration is here: https://practiscore.com/wsps-april-2016-uspsa/register Stages are here - plus one classifier: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_jXb8JBrxQoVk4ybHkzemt6Z3M
  12. Simple question - should true "amateur" shooters have to compete against "pros"? When I was involved in motor racing there was a pretty clear definition of who was an amateur and who was a pro. There doesn't seem to be that distinction in USPSA. I would have thought the classification system would take care of this, but it seems like pros come in D class to GM these days. Should any "pro" shooter be required to register as "industry" so they don't take prizes away from the "amateurs"?
  13. Topic says it all. I'm looking at the Hiviz FO front sight for a CZ-75 (http://www.hivizsights.com/product/cz2005/) and wondering if it would fit a Witness Match. Any ideas out there? Not looking for guarantees but for best guesses. My old eyes aren't that great any more and I need as much help focusing on that front sight as I can get. This looks like it might be pretty bright. I can't find any similar posts on this topic so I'm starting this one. Thanks.

  16. After getting off the ground last autumn with our first Revolver-specific USPSA match at Oak Park Sportsmens Club in Plainfield, IL (southwest of Chicago), we're going ahead with another. The club's overall match schedule is too crowded with matches and we can't get a separate date this year. So we're just declaring that the regular-season November match (second Sundays) is going to be a "Revolver" match. Since we still have to allow all those other people on the range, we'll let them, but as before, this match will be carefully designed to be as eight-shot hostile as possible. Yeah, those 627s and 929s are going to be discriminated against as much as possible, too. Some of us are stuck in the past with the "sixgun" thing- Elmer didn't write a book called "Eightguns", after all. To encourage participation, we've dropped the match fee to all Revolver Division entrants to $5. Plus, the winner of the division who isn't named "Phil Proietti" will be provided with a box of Federal primers in either small or large pistol size. We will feature six stages most likely, five large field courses in our inimitable style (with the hostility added) and a classifier. I'm lobbying for another stage space but it's probably not happening. Oak Park Sportsmens Club (NI10) is about 40 miles southwest of Chicago just off I-55 at the IL Rt 126 exit (old US 66). Pre-registration will become available the week before and would be recommended. The OPSC Action Shooting Sports page is here. The club site is here. We do have a supply of extra stuff for folks who don't always shoot sixguns such as speedloaders and speedloader carriers on a first-come, first-served basis. Your hosts will be Bill Zeller (that's me), OPSC USPSA program director and known Webley shooter, and Phil Proietti, OPSC vice-president.

  24. Greetings from Vermont! New member to the BE forum, although I've been snooping now for almost a year. Thought it was about time to join up. A bit about myself,,,I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Vermont, currently residing in Burlington, VT. I compete on the University of Vermont Pistol Team in the Scholastic Pistol Program, against other colleges across the country (Coast Guard, West Point, Harvard, Yale, UNH, Texas, Florida, etc.). I've started practicing for USPSA matches, as our team has a working relationship with Green Mountain Practical Shooters and Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club, which runs great matches. So here's the problem. I have a practice range and club in Vermont, but I go home to Cumberland, RI in the summer. Can any Rhode Islander's help out? I'm looking for a local range that isn't static near my house and a good club that runs matches on a regular basis (once a month preferable). The Massachusetts border isn't too far away if any MA residents want to jump in. Thanks and see you on the forums!
  25. This coming Saturday following our regular USPSA match consisting of Four Stages including a Classifier we will hold a rifle match. For those of you with rifles that want to have extra fun - We are going to shoot the stages with our AR's after the regular match is finished and we convert the stages to rifle only targets. We hope this to become a regular event that will take the place of the hole left from the missing Tactical Carbine Defense Match. This will also serve as great practice to get ready for the upcoming MG Nationals. I found that this practice was not only fun but very helpful in preparation for the recent SMM3-Gun Match. You can shoot this match with any caliber of Auto or Semi-Auto rifle. Please Pre-register for that match on this different link: https://clubs.practiscore.com/phoenix-rod-and-gun-club-rifle-only-match-4-5-2014/register Pre-Registering is very helpful as is saves me allot of time and helps me to plan for how to best run the match. The continued success of these matches depend on your cooperation with these requests. Shooting will start at 3:00pm. We are planning on shooting a squadded match, using time-plus faults for scoring, and Practiscore for results. Please come out and support this match if you want this to continue on a regular basis. Your input is desired on how this match develops and if it will continue past the local 3-Gun season. Please spread the word and tell your friends. Thanks
