  1. I know that there is a long running thread in the general area about glasses. What prompted me to post this here is that the requirements for a bifocal lens for a handgunner, I suspect will be different than what someone who shoots a handgun, rifle and shotgun are. I've been told that progressive lenses will give a very narrow focal plane left to right and that I might want to consider just getting a lens with a lined bifocal. I think a lined bifocal will allow me to keep scores / read but also allow good target acquisition but I am concerned about handgun front sight crispness, and shotgun sights while shooting slugs. Do you use a progressive lens for your bifocal prescription for 3 gun or do you use a lined bifocal? Next big question is about lens color. In clay target games, Decot Hy-Wyd coined a term "romancing the target". As an example, I shoot a very light rose color lens in sporting clays which makes the blaze orange targets pop against the background. For USPSA style cardboard targets, has anyone tried a brown or tan type tinted lens. I'm trying to get a nice pair of glasses that I can use for multiple outdoor type activities. I happen to be a mad fly fisherman and the brownish color lenses are very popular on the water, but I have a concern about them looking a brown cardboard colored targets. Thanks for your thoughts
  2. I've been wearing Rudy's for several years now...Started with Magsters, then got a deal on Rydons and decided they're more comfortable with muffs on, so the Rydon has been my usual shooting glasses for a while now. I'm near-sighted, but not too bad, but also have astigmatism and convergence insufficiency, so I have a bit of prism as well. At the beginning of this year, I finally got my first pair of progressive lenses...admitted to the optometrist that I have to look over/under my lenses to read on my phone...and it's gotten to the point where I have a hard time reading headstamps with my glasses. My eyes aren't so bad (yet) that I have any trouble seeing the sights and target. So, after spending way more than I should have on a new frame and progressive lenses for daily wear, I was actually contemplating whether I should get one of my Rudy Rx inserts updated with either progressive or bifocal lenses. Then I remembered "Rudy Readers", and Rudy had a sale going on a week or so ago, so I ordered two sets of Rydon Reader lenses (clear, which I figured would be for shooting, and polarized smoke which I figured would be good for sun glasses/fishing and being able to see to tie knots). They arrived yesterday, so I shot with them today. The bifocal was a bit distracting at first...but nowhere near as bad as the several weeks it took to get used to progressive lenses. They didn't seem to cause any issues with my pistol shooting. Anyone else wearing bifocals/progressives for daily wear using these with a single distance correction lens in the Rx insert?
  3. I have been reading up on the Oakley M-Frame 3.0 with the Prizm lenses. From what I can tell, I'd really like the function of them. I also read reviews that they pair well with ear protection, which tends to be an issue for me. I have 20/20 so my $20 glasses fatigue my eyes and give me a headache but my Oakley Commits never do. I love the clarity. But, with split lenses it makes a slight blind spot during 3-gun that I'd like to get rid of. My biggest problem is that I'm a petite woman. It seems that most of the Oakley SI line is designed for men, but if they aren't too big for my face that doesn't bother me. Any lady shooters or wives/girlfriends out there who have tried them? Thanks!
  4. As I've aged my ability to see far away objects has diminished. Just recently I found my 25 yard groups spreading out. I started to analyze this and wondered what the solution was. My front sight is nice and crisp but the target is blurry. In my mind, I said this is what you want for proper sight alignment on difficult shots. Upon further analysis, I decided my target was blurry enough to prevent me from fine tuning my point of aim such as the A zone or 10 ring. I went to the range today to try and determine my best course of action to resolve this problem. I shot groups without my prescription glasses, with prescription glasses and with one prescription lense covering my non-dominant eye (I typically squint my non-dominant eye). Shooting with the lense covering my non-dominant eye and both eyes open was the worst, so it's a no go. The groups with the other two were very similar with the point of impact slightly higher without prescription lenses. I think, due to my concentration, I was still able to shoot decent groups with and without the glasses. However, as my eyes get tired my groups without the glasses start to spread out. The drawback to the prescription glasses is they make my front sight slightly blurry. After careful consideration, I've decided a prescription slightly weaker (than my current one) might give me the proper compromise between a crisp front sight and being able to see the target clear enough to determine the center. Anyone who has had this experience have any ideas?
  5. Can anyone who shoots with Bi-focals give me any tip on what i need to do?
