  1. The other thread is full of broken picture links so I decided to start a new one here. When planning a CZ Open build, there are a number of things to consider: -comp type: cone or bull, off the shelf or custom, aluminum, steel, or titanium. With a bull style comp the barrel bushing remains and the comp us screwed onto a barrel at least 0.4" longer than the slide, with a cone comp, the bushing is removed and barrel lockup happens between the cone and slide. -barrel length: 4.5" (standard 75/SP01/Shadow), 4.7" (Shadow 2/Australian Shadow), 5.1" (Tactical Sports/Czechmate) -slide length: if you cut the length of the slide you can use a recoil spring housing like the Czechmate: If you don't cut the length of the slide, you don't need the recoil spring housing, but you then have the front sight dovetail and the taper at the front corners of the slide to deal with. -frame length: when the slide reciprocates, the barrel/comp move back relative to the frame approximately a quarter inch so the frame needs to be cut at least 1/4" back from the end of the slide or the comp need to fit inside the frame rails. Unfortunately cutting the frame typically gets into the serial number, so depending upon your local gun laws you may need to file official paperwork to relocate it. A short dust cover frame eliminates this issue, but the downside of a short dust cover is that it won't cover a stroked slide. slide stroke: the stroke of a standard CZ 75 is 1.875", the stroke of the Shadow 2 is 1.890", the factory stroke of the Czechmate/TS is 2.000", the factory stroke of a 2011 is 2.115", from what I've been told, Akai strokes his 2011s to 2.415". My custom TS Open is stroked to 2.440", then I run a buffer which gives back 0.140". The stroke is increased by removing material here: Increasing the stroke gives a longer distance over which the recoil spring can slow the slide before it impacts the frame, it also allows for the use of buffers without inducing short stroke issues. -removal of the comp/barrel: unfortunately bull or cone, CZ comps/barrels are not designed to be removed from the slide in one piece like a 2011 or a Tanfoglio, so you're either stuck removing the comp from the barrel before disassembly or doing extensive modifications to the barrel and slide so it can be removed through the front: -optic: slide or frame mount, mirco dot or slide ride. I prefer a horizontal CMore Slide Ride, while it's not the sexiest, and a few ounces heavier than a micro dot, it has the biggest glass and gets the dot closest to the slide: -thumb rests: thumb rests are pretty personal having a lot to do with your thumb length and preferred angle, although I like them pretty much parallel to the barrel. -slide racker: the Czechmate racker is slightly smaller than the factory dovetail on the regular 75 slides which are unfortunately larger than anything commercially available, so they must be custom made. Because of the dovetail location towards the rear of the slide, if you want a racker on the left side (for right handed shooters) you need to cut a dovetail right behind the breech face so it doesn't interfere with your thumb. -big stick mags: the best part about the Czechmate/Tactical Sports platform is the big stick, it's factory made, with CZC pad/guts it holds 29+1, and it works! I've heard of people who need to tune these, but in my personal experience, when I first got my Czechmate, I tried to use my regular 115gr JHP load from my 2011s which would randomly nose dive out of a fully loaded big stick; I switched to Montana Gold CMJs and never had a problem since. If this is not the case for you, I hear Bevin Grams offers the tuning service at a reasonable price. For the standard CZ75 guns, there is no off-the-shelf option for a big stick, so the easiest thing to do is use an 18 round tube, CZC long base pad/spring/follower for a mid-length mag (~160mm) which holds 25+1. Otherwise you can cut a Promags 26 rounder to fit the gauge or weld two tubes together. I have a few 170mm mags I've put together which hold 28+1. Those are all the issues I can think of right now, but if you can think of anything else, please commercially below. On to some pictures! Some are mine, some belong to friends, and some are just pictures I've collected over the years.
  2. Hey all, I know the screws are M4x0.7, does anyone have the overall length? Looking to order some spares before I take it apart as I'm chasing down a loosening mount problem! I would just take the screw to the hardware store, but I have a match in a few days and don't want to lose my zero.

  6. I picked up some Shooyer's World Major Pistol powder. I plan on shooting 115gn & 125gn Blue Bullets in my CZ Czechmate with a 1.150" OAL. Anyone have any chrono data? I also plan on shooting steel challenge and looking for a light load that will work the comp.
  7. Hi all, I just got cz czechmate 9mm. Anyone know where I can order 8 or 9lb recoil spring? I was check wolff but I don't know which one can fit czechmate 9mm. thanks for help!?
  8. where I can find cz czechmate 9mm 8 or 9lb recoil spring? need help
  9. I finally got my czechmate after about a year what extras parta do you guys buy aside from what the factory gives you.
  10. I'm probably missing something really obvious prior to my first range outing with the new Czechmate, but I can't get the slide to move fully to the rear. Theories?
  11. I'm officially making the move to (as I've read many other open shooters call it) "The Dark Side". A Little Background: I've been shooting Limited Major for about 14 months, starting with a Glock 35, and switching to a CZ 75 Tactical Sport back in April. My life can pretty much be defined in two parts: life before my Tactical Sport, and life after my Tactical Sport. I've posted plenty of pics and info in the CZ pic threads, so I won't go into any more detail than saying I've made most of the "upgrades" (you could argue the TS doesn't need any) you can make via the Custom Shop, and some grip/frame modification and Cerakoting. The gun has been phenomenally reliable and shoots soooo good. So naturally, since I have an awesome pistol I love, it's time to buy another. I had initially planned on shooting Limited for another year, but as this year was wrapping up, I got impatient and decided it would be WAY more fun to just take the plunge. I've put aside just over $3,000 at this point, and I'm ready to make a purchase. I looked at all kinds of options, and I've whittled it down to a Czechmate... or an STI Trubor. I'm probably 90/10 on my choice. The Czechmate is an obvious choice for me for a LOT of reasons: It's built on the exact same gun I'm shooting currently. Aside from learning to pick up the dot and a much different recoil impulse, I would theoretically have a shorter learning curve, and going back and forth from Limited to Open would be easy. All the parts and upgrades I have for my TS (mag extensions, extended safety, etc.) could transfer back and forth between the two guns. It's an awesome value. I wouldn't need to purchase additional mags, etc. My TS is so phenomenally reliable (and I have a lot of working knowledge of the platform) and I can't help but assume the Czechmate would be as well. I want to shoot 9mm Major, and these forums seem to indicate the Czechmate runs very well in 9mm Major. An STI 2011 is obviously enticing for a number of reasons, but these are the major considerations that still have me on the fence: Absolutely ridiculous amount of aftermarket support, knowledge, and market share in shooting sports. Based on the survey data that USPSA published in Front Sight from the 2014 Nationals, everyone and their mom shoots the 2011 platform, including the most successful shooters in the sport. Therefore, they MUST be awesome... right? However, I have also heard a fair amount of negative things about some of the (arguably) "lower end" STI's like the Trubor that you don't hear about in custom 2011's, Infinities, etc. I won't get into the things I've heard (and witnessed at matches) but I do have a silly belief that spending this kind of money on a competition gun means it should run and run and run. Based on the background I provided, can you guys give me some input on my choice? If you think the 2011 is the platform to go with, please explain to me why. Basically, I'm buying a Czechmate unless some experienced STI owners can convince me here that the Trubor (or similar) is the better choice. One last thing: I know spending some more $$$ can get me a 2011 that will run like a sewing machine. However, at this point in my life, $3k is what I have to work with. Also, I wouldn't be opposed to shooting a used 2011 open gun, but they seem to be in pretty high demand, and I don't want to sit around too long waiting for that "perfect deal".
  12. As I did research on what open division gun I wanted, and looked for every photo of a Czechmate I could find on the internet, I noticed that the forums here were lacking a thread specifically dedicated to images of the CZ Czechmate. If you are a Czechmate owner, let's see them photos. I'll start with my newly purchased CM I just picked up today:
  13. I picked up a new Czechmate and am starting to test loads. I have reamed the barrel so I can load longer. N350 fills the case almost to the top. but it is clean. 14. Hello All, I am getting the open gun hankering. I have a bone stock 9mm tactical sport I would like to turn into an open gun. I do not want to build a czechmate clone, I want to do a few things different and I need some advice from all of you: I am going to list things number here that I intend to do to the pistol so If you are listing something you would do different just type the number (eg: 3: I would do this) 1: Grip reduction. I have a Shay Akai grip reduction on another 40 cal TS I bought from a member here and it is decent. Anyone else to try? 2: Slide/Barrel Shortening. It has a 5.4 inch barrel now and after you add and inch at least of comp to this this pistol starts to get pretty long. I would like to shorten the barrel and slide, if there is a smith who can do this and if it is cost feasible. Shorten slide and barrel to 4.5" barrel, threaded for comp. 3: Along with the slide shortening scallop all extra metal off slide and port it. 4: The frame will more than likely have to be cut away at the front alone the frame rails to clear the comp and shorter barrel. 5: Large Magwell (no clue on a good on) 6: Drill and tap for mount. Any recomendations on the best mount or optic setup to use here? 7: Big safeties, mag catches, etc for my medium sized hands. 8: Flat grips with tape of course. Add in anything else you guys think I might need or like. Thanks for the help, the biggest hurdle is if its even possible to shorten the slide as I would like, If not maybe I should just give up and buy a new czechmate, but they are so long... Thanks alot! -Matt
