  1. I have an AR-15 running the following setup: 12.5" Midlength gas Triarc TRACK barrel Silencerco Omega (dedicated suppressed) RCA low mass BCG SLR Sentry 7 adjustable gas block A5 buffer tube A5 buffer (reduced weight using KAK aluminum weights) Tubbs flatwire spring Function is consistent and 100% reliable with any one single type of ammunition, BUT I am having issues with ammo sensitivity when changing from different loads. In previous builds using similar components (but 16" mid and non-suppressed) I have had a wide band of reliabilty. Once gas is properly set the rifle runs to BHO with everything from weak steel cased 223 to full house 77gr 5.56 ammo. When gas is tuned for the 12.5" rifle listed above I get flawless performance (4 o'clock ejection and BHO) from roughly 50% of the different ammo types I shoot. The other 50% ejects at 2:00 to 2:30 and makes the gun vibrate harshly when shooting. Function is 100% consistent when running a single type of ammo. If I decrease gas by one click I lose BHO on the softer ammo, and the more violent cycling ammo will then cycle smoothly. To clarify, some low pressure 223 cycles violently and some cycles properly. (I.E.5.56 55gr XM193 cycles violently, but 5.56 77gr MK262 Mod1 cycles smooth.) What gives?! Any suggestions to remedy the problem? EDIT: OPTION #1 Would anyone recommend replacing the low mass BCG with the Bootleg adjustable BCG? https://www.weaponoutfitters.com/bootleg-adjustable-carrier.html PROS- On the fly fine tuning between gas settings. CONS- Added mass, possibly added maintenance, cost. OPTION #2 Should I skip all this head-scratching and just shoot ammo that functions properly in my rifle? Or is it wrong to run my rifle in such a narrow window of operation?
  2. Im from PA and working on my second AR build and have some technical questions. Also maybe looking for training classes for long range shooting.
  3. Backstory, I have been shooting USPSA Production. Yeah, the saying is true, you never stop there... I have shot ARs a few times in the range, but I actually never own one. I want an AR and I decided to build one. Problem, This is a platform/build for some range time and possibly for 3Gun in near future after practices. After much research, I have already decided on most parts. However, Barrel profile and BCG are two things I cannot decide. I know JP low mass is great, but the price seems very steep considering purchasing with their buffer set. I also heard it requires more maintenance than normal ones. Since I may not do a match very soon. Is it a good idea to get low mass for practicing? Some people recommended FailZero nickel boron BCG, but I heard the Failzero has a bad fit in general. Some people suggested BCM...I am just overwhelmed by the choices... What BCG do you guys recommend? Should I go all in for a Low mass in the beginning? or just spend less on something reliable to practice more? If so, what is your favourite? Another thing is about the barrel, I am solid sold by BlackHoleWeaponry, and considering their 18" 1:7, they have a NatiionalMatch profile, Standard, and Light. Anyone have any experience with such profiles? I have never heard of NationalMatch Profile Here are some stuff on my list Seekins billet set PSA LPK Elf 3gun trigger 18" 1:7 BHW barrel (profile?) BCG (dont know) Sentry7 gas block (is it an overkill?) Magpul moe grip Sorry for the long post... And here is a 'render' of my build scheme

  5. I have a gift certificate for a Nordic comp, I can choose either the Tactical of Corvette comp, does anyone have any input on which is better? This is going on a light weight competition AR build in 223. 16in barrel, adj. gas, and a lightweight bcg, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  6. Phoenix Rod & Gun November Rifle Match This Month we will again hold the Rifle match. This month we will be starting at 2 PM after we change the stages up a bit from the morning pistol match. This month the match contains 3-gun style rifle and pistol stages. Meaning -- that you will need to shoot both pistol and rifle on some stages. So don't forget you pistol and holster. This match IS squadded. So show up ready to shoot at 2PM and don't forget to squad yourself. Please also pre-register for that match on this link: Https://clubs.practiscore.com/november-phoenix-rod-and-gun-club-1st-sat-of-the-month-rifle-match/register Pre-Registering is very helpful as is saves me allot of time and helps me to plan for how to best run the match. The continued success of these matches depends on your cooperation with these requests. This month will begin set-up for the match after Thursday night steel is finished around 7pm. In appreciation for your assistance, you can shoot the match for free in addition to cash for gas/lunch. Please email me if you can help.
  7. This coming Saturday following our regular USPSA match consisting of Four Stages including a Classifier we will hold a rifle match. For those of you with rifles that want to have extra fun - We are going to shoot the stages with our AR's after the regular match is finished and we convert the stages to rifle only targets. We hope this to become a regular event that will take the place of the hole left from the missing Tactical Carbine Defense Match. This will also serve as great practice to get ready for the upcoming MG Nationals. I found that this practice was not only fun but very helpful in preparation for the recent SMM3-Gun Match. You can shoot this match with any caliber of Auto or Semi-Auto rifle. Please Pre-register for that match on this different link: https://clubs.practiscore.com/phoenix-rod-and-gun-club-rifle-only-match-4-5-2014/register Pre-Registering is very helpful as is saves me allot of time and helps me to plan for how to best run the match. The continued success of these matches depend on your cooperation with these requests. Shooting will start at 3:00pm. We are planning on shooting a squadded match, using time-plus faults for scoring, and Practiscore for results. Please come out and support this match if you want this to continue on a regular basis. Your input is desired on how this match develops and if it will continue past the local 3-Gun season. Please spread the word and tell your friends. Thanks
  8. Hello: Does anyone have experience with the DRD barrels. I am looking at the 16 incch, hammer forged, chrome lined barrel. Good price and comes with a micro gas block and gas tube. Thanks in advance for the input. Adam
  9. I've searched high and low, and can't seem to find a definitive answer to my question! I just purchased a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 and throw lever, but can't decide what to go with as far as mounting it. I have no plans of removing, swapping, or changing my optic regularly, and don't see a need for a QD mount. I have a flat top rail on my SR 556, so eye relief is not an issue either. Is there any reason to go with a one piece mount like the Larue, Warne, Burris, etc rather than conventional style rings in a taller version?
  10. I came into a good stash of LT32 and with the scarcity of my preferred powders I've been trying to work with it with limited success. I have the data from Accurate but my accuracy is inconsistent and velocities less than other powders even loading to Max with the 223 data. There are no over pressure signs and there is data for 5.56 which I'm considering working slowly into before giving up. Any one with experience and data on this, regardless of bullet weight, is greatly appreciated.
  11. So, for those of you that shoot 3-Gun matches with shots out to 300-400 yards , how accurate are your rifles/loads or what would you consider acceptable accuracy? 0.5MOA, 1 MOA, 2 MOA, 3+
  12. Yesterday I encounterd a strange feeding issue with my new stag3g. I would empty a mag, change mag and the first round would partially feed. The bolt would lock back fully and after inserting the mag I would release the bolt, I have a bad lever, that's when the round would partially feed after empty mag, bolt locked back, change mag, releasing bolt to strip the first round from the new mag. Using the forward assist several times would feed the round and lock the bolt. Runs fine from there, no FTE or FTF. I have a Troy designs ambi mag release installed also. Gun is cleaned and lubed with CLP and running a bit wet. I'm shooting pmc .223 55gr, new brass from pmags. I did just spray a bit of CLP in the buffer tube so next time I'll see if that makes a difference. The rifle has perhaps 100 rounds through it. And has been perfect other than this issue yesterday. I've read many posts on ar feeding issues but none really cover this. any ideas.
  13. This is the third and final update on AR price tracking. On December 28th I decided to track the final sales price of ARs to determine when we may peak on the current crazy price situation. I tagged bids on GB for a standard Bushmaster 16" E2S NIB-- no used guns, no special add-ons like optics, just a vanilla .223 that would typically retail prior to the crisis at something under $1000. I took an average of those bids on days where I was able to find at least six representative transactions that closed for this rifle. I did not include any data where the final bid was under the reserve, nor did I include any data from sellers who did not have at least one point of feedback. The averages over the last three months are as follows: As you can see, the prices peaked on December 29th, dipped and then another local high point on January 14th, the day before the 23 presidential executive orders were announced. Prices have been decreasing since that time, and have been hovering around $1000 over the past week. My assessment is that the price bubble for AR's has been deflated. While ammo prices are still generally high, the price of AR's appear to be at or near their retail offerings. I'm concluding the study of AR prices given this conclusion. Have you been patient enough to wait for this trend to play out to make a purchase of an AR, or did you pick one up when it was 2x retail? Or, did you take advantage of the trend and sell an AR at the peak? __________________ This was from a person on the INGO forum. Just thought i would pass the data along.
