  1. I've been shooting a Para Pro Custom 16.40 for about a year, and it took me from C-class to A-Class Limited, and I've had multiple people ask "Where did you find mags." Here's my story for the next person who searches on Google. My Para came with 2- 16rd magazines with removable basepads. I bought Dawson Tool-less base pads for the factory Para mags, and they worked flawlessly as 20rd reloadable mags for about 6 months. After the springs failed, I bought two Wolff +10% extra coil springs, cut to size and they have ran great ever since. After a few months, the MBX Para mags were released so I bought two and they have also run flawlessly ever since. I did buy two of the Greg Cote LLC ACT-Mags advertised to fit 16.40s with a small modification. I did the mod and they did work, but I had to heavily modify the follower to get 19rds reloadable. In the end, I ended up using the tubes when the anti-slip coating on my factory mags wore through, but they're otherwise only worth the $ if you're willing to sacrifice rd count. Note: Regarding Arrodondo springs & followers in 16.40 mags, those NEVER worked for me. Follower turned every time I shot the gun resulting in the same "salt shaker" effect. I sent them back to Dawson.
  2. Is there any difference other than size between the different manufacturers? I want to put a *thumb rest [generic]* on my new 2011 but not sure which 1 to get.. Thanks for the help

  4. Talkd to Tamasie at B2B Chamionship in Florida and he said Remington was trying to get their version of the Paras out first quarter next year, hopefully!!! We'll see......
  5. Can a Para P-14 45 acp be converted to 9mm?
  6. So I was wondering through one of the local gun shops, and found this thing with a 25% of tag on it. According to the guys at the counter, this was part of an estate sale that included some more old open guns. There was another one behind the counter, but the slide wouldn't travel back enough to lock back and felt like the recoil spring was installed incorrectly, but they wouldn't let me take it apart to check. So I grabbed this one. I can only find one reference to the WG prefix on the serial number which seems to indicate it's an old smith kit frame. Which would make sense given the Propoint. It's a Canadian frame. The slide is serrated on top, with the serrations carrying over the comp. The grip safety is very nicely blended and looks to have been pinned at one point. The barrel is a Nowlin Super 38. The comp appears to be a threaded on cone type. The slide has a little play in it, but still shot very accurately with store bought ammo. The scope worked but had a bunch of spots in it, which that turned out to be a lot of grime that cleaned off. The mount has Dawson's arrow thing on it, so I assume it's a Dawson mount? So is there any way to know anything concrete about this gun? Is this actually an old Baer open gun?
  7. My magazines for my Limited Para (Para body, Dawson Basepads) need to be rebuilt. But Grams does not sell a "Follower Kit" for Para. What follower/spring combination would you recommend for Para mags?
  8. My 1911 Para 16-40 has a bull-barrel and reverse full-length guide rod plug. It keeps beating up guide rod plugs. It starts with peening the lip of the plug, progresses to the point where the tunnel goes out of round, and binds with the recoil spring. Left long enough, the plug splits along it's length. I am on my 4th plug. I had the slide mating-surface milled square, as the peening always happens on the same side, but it keeps re-occurring. I have also tried filing the mating surfaces of the slide to remove rough edges. I'm not sure it is due to sloppy assembly after field-stripping, or the plug twists as the gun cycles. See attached photos. Any one else seen this? David
  9. I noticed E-Gunparts is stocking some "factory" Pro Custom (wide-body) magazines. These are pretty inexpensive and nice to have for mandatory reload stages and such ... https://www.gunpartscorp.com/ad/1410270.htm https://www.gunpartscorp.com/ad/1410290.htm
  10. So to start things off please remember I am in California so I can NOT just go out and buy a STI open gun. So I recently came across an old Para P14 and want to make it into an open class gun and I understand that it will need some gunsmithing done. I want to make it an open gun shooting major. My first question is should I make it a 9 major or just make it shoot .40? Second I know I will have to cut the frame to allow for a ramped barrel I am assuming I need to cut it to a Para/Clark specifications and not Wilson/Nowlin. Will this cause any feeding issues with using factory Para P16/P18 magazines (depending on what caliber I go)? Any help will help especially from people that have experienced building one first hand. Thanks!
  11. I'm getting back into 3-gun after a 15+ year break and it appears my single stack .45 will be at a bit of a disadvantage. I have a Para Gunsmith frame that has been collecting dust for about 20 years now and it occurred to me that a double stack 9mm might make a nice pistol for 3-gun. It doesn't look like Para is making mags for 9mm any more? Does anyone know the reason for that? Is there a reliability problem that I should be aware of? I've seen that some guys are running SV/STI mags with a modified mag catch. Your comments, please? Bob
  12. I'd love to hear some user reports on the Para single stack 1911s. I'm thinking about one of the Elite Target models. Seems like a pretty nice gun for not too much money. Thanks!
