  1. What a personal s#!t show today. Local match, hoping to run the Glock 45 I’ve switched to for CO. Gun was zeroed, function checked and ready. Mags loaded. The first stage had some build problems that had to be corrected that didn’t get noticed until a few shooters ran (who then would have to reshoot the updated stage). Because of that i changed my plan and decided to run right to left, which I still think is the better option. The problem is I planned my reload location poorly, then compounded it by stumbling while reloading on the move and broke the 180. I wish I could say I didn’t shoot to plan but I did... and didn’t leave myself any room for error. Then error happened. No argument, but now I’m on the way home to ice my ankle. Apparently even with plates and screws it’s not meant to take all my body weight and momentum on the balls of my left foot as the only contact point. Bright side: I have an excuse to not mow the yard when I get home now. Edit to add: Also sort of glad I didn’t end up having to shoot Long Range Standards 2, which was one of the stages (but no longer counts as a classifier).
  2. I heard a pod cast concerning the Match DQ rule in Steel Challenge. I would like to hear your thoughts on the rule. What do you think? fair/unfair and why? Should a shooter be DQ'd for both guns? For Those who are unaware of the rule it's Steel Challenge Rule 8.1 8.1 Disqualifications, General Principles: Competitors who have been disqualified may not shoot during the remainder of the event. This includes events that span multiple days. However, completed match scores will still count. For example, if a competitor shoots a complete score in Revolver then disqualifies while shooting Single Stack that competitor’s Revolver score still stands. In the case where the competitor is competing in two matches simultaneously such as centerfire pistol and Rimfire pistol matches and the competitor is disqualified in either match he is automatically disqualified in all matches in which he is currently competing.
  3. I got my first DQ this Sunday. I've got maybe 15 matches under my belt and have not been able to participate in matches as regularly as I'd like, fortunately my schedule has freed up and this was my third match in as many weeks. I'm shooting production (still unclassified) with a CZ-85. I posted the stage layout PDF below. The stage calls for engaging half the targets freestyle, mandatory reload, the other half strong hand only. A second string repeats with the first half freestyle, a reload, and the other half weak hand only. I missed the mandatory reload on the first string. I caught myself as I transitioned to strong hand but finished the first string with a procedural penalty. Not ideal, but so be it. The DQ came with the second stage when I transitioned to my weak hand. I put my rounds on the first half of the targets, reloaded like I was supposed to and transitioned the gun to my weak hand. BOOM! - the trigger was engaged and the gun discharged where it was pointed - safely downrange and at the berm, resulting in an (entirely reasonable) DQ. I spent a good half hour after the match in dry fire practice, transitioning from strong hand to weak hand. I think what happened was my off hand index finger wasn't perfectly flat on the transition and on taking hold of the weapon, entered the trigger guard and engaged the trigger. Lessons learned If I'm not used to a particular transition go slow, even if it seems simple. I hadn't practiced operating my gun in my off hand enough, or in transitioning from two hand to off hand. If you have the stage description before hand read them. I had a week to go through the stage descriptions and gave them only a cursory look through. Had I read so in more detail I MIGHT have seen the transition that I didn't know about and could have taken time to rehearse the transition in dry fire and maybe have avoided the DQ. Take the opportunity to recenter. I could have just taken a minute to re-center myself after getting the procedural, I doubt anyone would have held it against me. The opportunity was there, I just didn't take it. Maybe the DQ would have been avoided, maybe not. Stick around and help out even if you get DQed. You can dump your gear in the car, help with scoring and still watch the other competitors. People appreciate it, and you budgeted the time to be at the whole match anyway. Easter Sunday Stage 3.pdf
  4. A competitor that was not scoring or running the clock told shooters: "You F..ing A**holes that are walking the stage, instead of walking the stage Go F... tape some targets" Would this be viewed as disruptive and should this person get a procedural for Unsportsmanlike conduct? ADDED 12/20/16 9:45AM - Additional Information: The person with the temper was not the next shooter. It was said to a few shooters that were directed NOT to tape by the ROs as the scoring device was temporarily inoperable. This person was not acting as an RO and regularly does this type of thing. Many new shooters have left the range and refuse to come back due to it. There have been numerous complaints about this person regarding the same issue.
  5. We use Kindle FireHD 6's (4th Gen) as our Squad scoring devices and experienced multiple "lock-ups" on several of the scoring devices that SEEMED to occur after a shooter was DQ'd on a stage and then the squad tried to move to the next stage. When I worked with each device, it seemed you could go back into the stages that were shot during and before the DQ, but couldn't get the tablet to select any stage that had not been shot yet. In all cases, when selecting the next stage, the app would revert back to the initial match screen with the "Enter Scores", "Edit Shooters/Squads", etc. menu options. We tried exiting and restarting the Practiscore application. We tried rebooting the FireHD 6's. Nothing worked once they decided they were done for the day. One squad reported that rebooting their FireHD 6 got them out of the "lock-up" and they were able to continue scoring the next stage. I had a different behavior on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (with Samsung's stupid customized <crippled, really> Android OS). That device just reported that Practiscore had "stopped" and went back to the initial match screen. We made it through the match, but I did end up with sheets of paper from a couple squads that I had to enter into the iPad master device in order to get everyone's scores entered. The good news was, none of the devices lost any data they were given, and Practiscore collected it all together into the iOS iPad without any issue. I just ended up sync-ing like 8 devices for only 5 squads. I would love to provide any information that could be of help in diagnosing and resolving this issue. Guess I shouldn't have updated to 1.3.12 (on every Android device) on Friday before a match on Sunday, eh?
