  1. Hello everyone, I'm a bit clueless, I load ammo together with 2 of my buddies. We all use a CZ shadow 2 and the same loads (load data below). However, one of us has had some major reliability issues. Sometimes the rounds seem to not chamber properly, other times it's not an issue. But last week when unloading the gun he pulled the bullet out of the case. This has happend twice now. When i take a look the bullet has a little divit that looks like it got rammed into the rifling. Is there anything i can do or should he just get his barrel reamed? The crimp is set right and he has to really pull his slide back hard. I'm loading very short already because the ogive of the bullets is quite weird. So loading shorter isn't really a possibility. Load date: Ares 124gr coated bullets 1,05-1,06 oal 3.7gr lovex d032 Thanks in advance!
  2. 147 RN blues and universal clays - I am wanting to load up some of these for USPSA minor. Specifically a XDM 5.25. Wondering if anyone has a recipe
  3. First off let me say that I love E3 (well, now I'm not so sure). My CZC Accushadow has about 12,000 rounds down the pipe. Exclusively my reloads with solely coated and plated bullets .356 diameter. 10,000 have been with N320 and the last 2k have been with E3: 3.1gr E3 and 147's for 132PF to be exact. I have never noticed anything odd with N320 during my normal cleaning sessions every 1,000 rounds. I was cleaning my gun last night and noticed the first half inch of the rifling post chamber is now worn almost completely smooth!!! My 5 other CZ's don't exhibit this type of wear nor do any of my other high rounds count competition guns (none have seen E3 though). I have never heard of N320 causing this, plus I'm using soft bullets- No .358 jacketed bullets here. Upon searching I found another member who burned 7 pounds of E3 and noticed the same type of wear in his STI limited gun (40 major) albeit much worse. He believed it was E3, so he switched to WST and has never had the problem again. QUESTION: Has anyone else noticed accelerated barrel wear that miraculously appeared once they burned at pound + of Alliant E3?!
  4. Looking for a starting point for some 9mm minor loads for a gun I just got together. It has a barrel and slide that has been ported by Magnaport. I tried my standard minor load in it (147 Xtreme, Solo 1000) but that didn't work well at all. Last night I tried a 147gr Xtreme with 4.8 of Power Pistol and I think that was better, but its hard to tell. The Solo load shot softer but the Power Pistol load came back on target faster. With only ports in this top end should I drop to 124's or stick with 147's?
  5. If I am shooting 9mm Minor in the Limited division is there a limit as to how many cartridges I can carry in my mags?
  6. I've been loading Montana Gold 124gr JHPs for a while now, and as noted elsewhere ( Various plated vs coated vs jacketed projectiles vs... ), am looking at other options to see if I can drop the cost of what seems to be spiraling upward prices on MGs and others. I've loaded some Berry's, Ranier, and Hornady FMJs previously, but none of them are really cost-competitive or a significant savings vs cases of MGs, while some of the Hi-Tek combos, if they work out, could drop my cost per round by 3c or so each, so fingers are crossed, and I've picked up a number of projectiles to give a 'shot.' I'm not a bullseye shooter, but doing 2-3 matches per month nearly year round between pistol and 3 gun matches. Latest gun is a Walther PPQ, which seems to have a chamber much like the CZ75 in that it's on the shorter side vs my Glock, so I've needed to load the MG 124gr JHPs down to 1.065". I have a good number of Xtremes in the mix, as I picked some up on their Thanksgiving 15% sale, and a few more recently during a 10% off sale. I'm hoping to see something work out in the Hi-Tek coated on hand (SNS and BBI), as the savings there is pretty decent, but we'll see how it goes. I didn't have a chrono the last time I loaded some Xtremes, and have never loaded any of the coated bullets before, which combined with relatively minimal (manufacturer) WSF load data, and my MG 124gr JHPs seeing ~1130-1150FPS w/4.9gr@1.065" (start of published charge data but nearly max published velocity), so am set to pretty much run the gamut of charges. For most of these, I loaded up around 20rds. I could have done it in less, but I want to make sure I get a good 10each across the chrono, and then 10x for accuracy (likely offhand) testing against 1-2 targets with one specific target per bullet/charge, without waiting for a cold range every 5 minutes. Loads to be tested(all projectiles checked for max OAL in my gun; the below is generally 1/100th" below max physical OAL, except the Xtreme Plated RNs could run beyond SAAMI Max) 125gr SNS coated @ 1.085", 4.1gr-4.6gr WSF 124gr Xtreme plated RN @1.15", 4.2-5.0gr WSF 124gr Xtreme plated HP @1.085", 4.2-4.6gr WSF 125gr BBI coated RNFP (kind of a rounded off FP) @1.08, 4.2-4.6gr WSF I've also got some Xtreme 124gr FP and 135gr RNFPs coming, although I'm not sure they'll make it in time. Looking for the usual, accurate and PF > 125... I'm expecting all to cycle, although possibly not on the lower charges of the Xtremes. Any feedback or comments on the loads, including 'unlikely to cycle' is welcome. If not, I'll update when I get to chrono and test them next weekend.
  7. With a reasonable stack of primers and projectiles, and powder availability being what it's been, my list of 'buy it if I find any' powders has expanded a bit, like probably many of us. I don't shoot Major, mainly shoot in outlaw/local competitions currently. I've been loading 4.9gr of WSF, 124gr MG JHP, 1.065" OAL, ~1100FPS, and have been happy with that load, but haven't seen WSF come into stock anywhere in a year or so now.. I jumped on some Silhouette and AutoComp, the Silhouette due to recalling a few people saying it's similar to WSF, although I'm seeing both Sil. and AC are right next to each other in Hodgdon's burn chart, and slower than WSF now.. Any advice out there on loading either of these for minor with MGs? I'd like to stick to ~130PF or slightly higher as I do plan to expand my competitions in the future, so not looking for powder puff loads (and expect either powder wouldn't be all that well suited to them, either). Will work up and chrono either way, but sometimes there seems to be a highly recommended load within published load charges that stands out for accuracy, etc..
  8. I recently told a eastern European Jewish shooting friend I was going to home and "have a come to Jesus moment on a reloading forum", after a incident with a squib that was identified after the fact that scared the hell out of me. He wondered what the WTF I was talking about until I told him my story and he said you may not get Jesus to help you with that but you should get to the bottom of it before you hurt yourself. So here it goes. Incident I was shooting my G17 with my 147 gr reloads with a Storm Lake after market barrel doing some IDPA drills. During a bill drill the slide jammed half way back and it was stuck on the barrel with no squib. It could not be dislodged on the scene and I took it to an armorer. He dislodged it and he looked at the barrel and he said send it back to SL, the tolerances on the barrel block are too tight for the slide. So I sent it to SL and after talking with the nice fellow in SL tech support. SL indicated that tolerances between the machining in Glock slides and SL barrels sometimes do not match up (very rare) and he offered to machine down the barrel block to my G17 gen 2 slide. I sent both to SL and they found to my surprise (what I and the armorer did not notice) that the SL barrel had a bulge in it about half way down and would not easily fit through the barrel hole in slide muzzle, SL indicated this is what caused the barrel to jamb on the slide. He asked if I had a squib during the drill and I indicated I had not and I had shot with the SL barrel before (not a lot) and had no problems. Upon closer examination he found what appeared to be a copper ring fragment at the bulge and was able to knock it out. It was his opinion (he is a pro shooter) that I had a squib and I did not notice it and shot a second bullet into the squib that dislodged both. He indicated I was very lucky and advised me to carefully review how I was reloading. Reloading from the basement cave I am a relatively new reloader I only reload 9mm. There are not a lot of reloaders in the area so a lot of advice has been from forums and parenthetical advice at matches. I have been doing it since Jan 2013 and I have logged about 3900 rounds. When I first started I had the typical beginners problems had squibs and I number of measures to rectify the problems and the worked. But I still have an occasional squib or light load. Here's how I reload now Reloader: Dillon 550B Loads: 147 and 124 gr, minor power factor Powders: various due supply I typically use Hodgden U, Win 231; I typically load abt 3.6 for the 147 gr, and 4 gr for the 124 . I chrono my loads and I am happy with the results and repeatability. Bullets: Berry and MG cartridges: various from the range, weed out military and steel target OAL: 1.10 crimp: .378 to .377 Before reloading I calibrate the scale and run about 5 to 10 test drops until I am happy with the target powder drop. I have mounted a flash light so I can see the powder in the cartridge. after running about 10 rounds I check with a caliper to make sure things are set, they always are. I only had to tighten up the seating station once to make sure I was getting the right OAL. I do not like wasting rounds or primers so if a primer does not feed right away I will sometimes give it a second attempt to seat it after that I throw it away. I have had some problems with variable powder feeds. I have had to adjust the powder drop to just the right angle and tighten up on the screw at the end of the riser bar (what I call it). It seems to be running smoother now. But I still get some jamming of powder dispenser and that little white plastic nut that runs against the powder slide jumps off. I check every round with case gauge. It has been suggested that my crimp is too tight. Do any of you have suggestions as to how I can weed out this squib problem. I would estimate I get one every 200 to 300 rounds. I do not know what the problem is but I'm losing confidence. One thought is to get and get an experienced reloader to observe my reloading first hand, only so much I can get from forums. thanks
