  1. Ammobrass LLC is running a WEEKEND sale on brass if anyone is looking. I just wanted to help the community out if yall are looking. Good people and good guy to deal with. Ran Limited in 40 into B class in my limited days a long time ago on Matt Lucroy's brass and not a single malfunction. Just a looking out for yall.
  2. I have a Super 1050 that I want to convert from .40s&w to 9mm... and most likely back again once in a while... so I'd like to make it as quick to change between .40 and 9mm as possible. It seems like the best way to go is with the Dillon Quick-Change toolhead conversion and the Dillon 9mm Parabellum caliber conversion kit... They both use the same size primers, so that should be good to go... anything else I'm missing?
  3. Hey everyone. I've been experimenting with lighter bullets in .40 trying to make major. My latest test was with some Montana Gold 155 grain FMJs I picked up off the prize table at Battle In the Bluegrass this year. I'm experimenting to see whether I like lighter or heavier bullets better. I've shot plenty of 180s and 200s and I'm currently using 200's at matches, but noticing that the recoil feels slow. When I started using them I had been shooting Single Stack running 230gr bullets in .45 so it felt similar. I'm sharing so my tests can be of some use to others who might be searching for load data. I did notice that the 155's produced a significantly faster recoil impulse, especially when approaching major power factor. It wasn't harsh, which is good, but it did get the slide moving faster which is what I think I'm looking for. All of these were tested in my Brazos Custom Pro Series Limited gun. The barrel is a 5" Bar-Sto. All of these use the same bullet, same powder, mixed brass, CCI SP Primers, and same OAL. The only difference was the amount of powder in the cases. I'm trying to make major with these and I know I can go safely up to 5.9gr of Titegroup loaded to 1.125 per Hodgdon's data for Hornady XTP bullets, so I'm going to load up some more starting at 5.5gr going up to 6.0gr at 1.20 OAL to get more data and see how they feel. I was on the edge of a consistent major power factor load at 5.5gr so 5.6 or 5.7 should make it consistently at 1.20 OAL. I'm also going to load some to 1.80 OAL starting at 5.2gr and up to 6.0gr because the bullets are pretty short and could probably stand to be seated a little deeper. The good news is as the powder charge increased to the point where the load would reach major power factor, the extreme spread and standard deviation lowered. That's promising. I think as long as accuracy is good, this would be a pretty awesome, VERY fast recoiling load to make .40 major. I will post results of the rest of my tests using this bullet once I get out to test them and also some more data with 165gr BBI's which I should be receiving in a day or so. I did not test for accuracy. That will come later and will be based on my abilities. I don't have a realistic rest to truly test for accuracy anyway so testing for accuracy will be subjective... 1. 155gr MG FMJ, 4.9gr Titegroup, 1.20 OAL Min Velocity: 896 Max Velocity: 950 Avg Velocity: 932 Extreme Spread: 54 Standard Deviation: 17 Avg Power Factor: 144 2. 155gr MG FMJ, 5.0gr Titegroup, 1.20 OAL Min Velocity: 907 Max Velocity: 983 Avg Velocity: 958 Extreme Spread: 76 Standard Deviation: 20 Avg Power Factor: 148 3. 155gr MG FMJ, 5.1gr Titegroup, 1.20 OAL Min Velocity: 962 Max Velocity: 1014 Avg Velocity: 982 Extreme Spread: 52 Standard Deviation: 14 Avg Power Factor: 152 4. 155gr MG FMJ, 5.2gr Titegroup, 1.20 OAL Min Velocity: 986 Max Velocity: 1029 Avg Velocity: 1009 Extreme Spread: 43 Standard Deviation: 14 Avg Power Factor: 156 5. 155gr MG FMJ, 5.3gr Titegroup, 1.20 OAL Min Velocity: 996 Max Velocity: 1036 Avg Velocity: 1018 Extreme Spread: 40 Standard Deviation: 15 Avg Power Factor: 157 6. 155gr MG FMJ, 5.4gr Titegroup, 1.20 OAL Min Velocity: 1006 Max Velocity: 1044 Avg Velocity: 1030 Extreme Spread: 38 Standard Deviation: 12 Avg Power Factor: 159 7. 155gr MG FMJ, 5.5gr Titegroup, 1.20 OAL Min Velocity: 1051 Max Velocity: 1091 Avg Velocity: 1061 Extreme Spread: 40 Standard Deviation: 12 Avg Power Factor: 164
  4. I was going to post this on the OAL thread, but I'm not sure it's an OAL problem... so probably better to start a thread. Here's my story. I have a preloved, low round count, 2015 build SVI with an AET barrel in .40. This is my first time to reload for .40 and have not had any issues with reloading 1000's of rounds in 9 or .45 in the past. I know the AET's have tight chambers, so jacketed .400 bullets are recommended per the builder. I had some .401 bayou 180s on hand and loaded some of those up first to test. A large percentage of those failed the plunk test. Even the ones that dropped in cleanly still required a bit of a shake to fall out of the barrel. I am using dillon seating and crimp dies with the lee U die for sizing, so my assumption was that this issue was related to the .401 bullets. I then ordered a case of .400 fmj 180's and loaded a test batch. They are better, but still not going in and out of the chamber or my .40L hundo as easily as I think they should be. I'm now beginning to wonder if I am loading too long?? (1.19 oal) I'm at wits end with this. The brass itself plunks fine and case gauges easily after sizing, before loading. So I am relatively confident that it is not a "glock bulge" issue causing the problems. I have tried more bell, less bell, more crimp, less crimp, all to pretty much the same results. I have a lee FCD on the way that will hopefully fix the symptoms if all else fails, but I'd like to figure out what the actual problem is and fix that. I was hoping to shoot the gun in match last weekend, but concerns about my reloads are keeping me in production for the time being. Where do I start trying to trouble shoot this? Is it possible that the rounds are just too long at 1.19 and are sticking on the lands when I try to drop them back out of the barrel? Brandon at SV recommended 1.20 oal in the "recipe" he sent me. However, I don't see how going longer will address the issues I'm having. HALP?!?!!?!!!
  5. I guess this would be two questions in the same topic but.. I recently (accidentally) ordered 165gr. bayous. Should I return it for my normal 180gr or keep it and try it out. I shoot minor and major .40 with 180gr currently. Any pros/ cons for using 165? Second question.. How do I move my powder measure to station 3 on my Dillon 650 since the rod doesn't easily move? I want to run the Dillon sizer in station 1 and the EGW U die in station 2. Is it do-able without too much modification? Powders: N320, E3, Clays. Pistol: Limited DVC 5" Primers :CCI Mixed Range Brass
  6. Just getting a M&P 40 pro to use in limited. I do my own loading and up to this point have not loaded any 40cal so i am looking for a little help from some proven reloads. First bullet weight. I see a bunch of back and forth between the 180r and the 200r. Coming from 9mm I prefer the heavy 147 over all others. So, is the recoil effect from the heavier bullets the same in 40 as it is in 9mm? I am guessing that it is and I would like to try the 200gr FP Bayou bullet out but hate to buy things that don't work. Update...I have purchased the 200r so I will build a load on that, but the question still remains. Second is powder, currently I have a few selections but really like the way titegroup burns in my 9mm and see there are a lot of people that use it in their 40's as well. so, looking for a proven load to make around 170PF. I am going to start about 4.5gr and chrono that to see what i get. Third is OAL, I like to run my reloads as long as is permitted by the gun. Any lengths that the M&P 40Pro doesn't like? I am thinking of starting at 1.150 and move out from there. I see several using 1.170 but not sure what the M&P 40 magazine will handle as I haven't received the gun from the FFL. Thanks in advance for any information.
  7. So I have been itching to get into uspsa limited and am getting things in order for a new xdm 5.25 in 40. I am completely new to loading 40 but have lots of experience in loading 9mm and 45. Because of my previous loading experience I have piles of bullseye and tightgroup in my stockpile. I know these are not the best powders for 40 but do any other fellow xdm 40 owners have any loads or suggestions for me besides find some new powders. I plan to use bayou or and casting 180 grain projectiles on my square deal b.
  8. Im looking into getting a conversion barrel for my glock 23 40cal and converting it to a 9mm So far i know of these makers Lone wolf and storm lake which one would you guys get?
  9. I was wondering what the difference is between hornady xtp vs the jacketed hollow point? Should I load them the same?
