  1. Can anyone here give me some input on using the Stoeger M3000 as a beginner getting involved with 3-Gun? While it's made in Turkey and not Italy, at around $450.00 is seems like a tremendous buy compared to the Benellis which share the Inertial Operating System. It comes in a 26" barrel which would be legal for 3-Gun matches here locally. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Coming close to buying a MTAC 1-4x for my newly ordered AR-15 in .223. Same company has PEPR mount for $80 - 100 ... (Not sure what the difference is between the two). Q.1 Has PEPR stood up to the rigors of 3-gun on YOUR AR? Q.2 Do you need a mount for AR - can't you just use rings and clamp the rings to the gun? What's the advantage of using the mount with the rings? Excuse the basic questions, but I'm NOT familiar with AR's. Thanks, Jack
  3. This is my second season running a shoot-off style event where we run a double elimination blind draw bracket. The biggest problem I have is with the match no-shows throwing us off and it has left me with a few questions. Do you create a bracket before the day of the match? If so, do you do anything to mitigate issues from no-shows? If you create the bracket the day of the match, do you have any special strategy for laying one out quickly? Any other best practices for how you run your brackets during the match? I am looking for suggestions specific to the actual bracket. I plan to start requiring pre-payment to help with this issue. Thanks all!
  4. Hey everyone out there, Im sure you see this plenty on the forums, but i am coming to all of you for some assistance. I've been self training in the stall range for quite some time and am actually starting with an instructor on an outdoor range soon, but i would like some direction as to what gear i should keep an eye out for. I have been noticing people use battle belts mostly over plate carriers and chest rigs. in my opinion, i feel a battle belt would be better. I was hoping atleast a few people could recommend or talk about the belts that they use, with some pros and cons to them. Remember, I am a NOOB and i have no problem admitting that. Hope to get some great answers back. Thanks!
  5. Although I have significant experience with firearm, and I can say I have been a competitive shooter for two decades (I was a nationally ranked archer) I am new to 3-gun, IPSC, IDPA etc. Can anyone point me to people, clubs, or matches in the Central Illinois are?
  6. I am getting into the sport of 3-Gun. What are the advantages, or your experiences, with 9mm carbines versus a .223 rifle?
  7. Johnson 3-Gun Schedule: 2018 at the NRA Whittington Center March 17, 2018 - 3-Gun match Newbie Briefing 0830 Shooter's Briefing 0900 March 18, 2018 - 2-Rifle Match (Coal Canyon - Hwy 555 MM5) Shooter's Briefing 0800 April 14, 2017 RO Clinic followed by match on April 15 (come both or just Sunday) Saturday will be our 4th annual RO clinic. This clinic is a good refresher for anyone wanting to serve as a 3-Gun RO, but it focuses on Natural Terrain matches. We will be working under RM3G rules as well as 2-Rifle match rules, but it covers many of the RO skills talked about on the forums. There will be a little bit of shooting on Saturday and then a full Johnson 3-Gun match on Sunday. On Saturday, we will cover scoping out a stage (as an RO), looking for RO traps, dealing with the natural terrain for 180 and safety as well as RO repairs and supplies, RO equipment and preparedness. Since RO's at a natural terrain match implies more responsibility, we will spend some time looking at that as well. Since 3-Gun is growing so quickly, we will also be looking at strategies to work with shooters that are new to this type of match. The Sunday match will be open to everyone and you can just come on out to shoot! 11. New to the forum, not new to shooting. Always looking for more places to shoot. That is when I make the time to hit a match. I've been mostly shooting USPSA, but have on the occasion shot some IDPA, and 3-Gun, and zombie shoots down in KY. For USPSA I typically run a Metro Arms MAC1911 classic .45 in L10, and a CZ scorpion in PCC. Any other shooting its mostly been a CZ P09, Bushmaster ACR, and a KSG.

  14. I am looking to purchase this holster for a G34 for 3 gunning, just wondering if anyone here has experience with it and what is your overall feeling about it. I plan on using it with a Invictus holster hanger and a Safariland QLS mounted to my belt. Any info would be great. Thanks

  17. When I first decided to make my foray into open, or unlimited, division I knew I needed a new shotgun. I had been shooting an SLP and weighed the options of putting an X-Rail on it. So I had 3 considerations, X-Rail, Saiga, or 1919. I felt the X-rail was too heavy and the Saiga did not interest me. So I did a lot of reading on 1919s set up for 3-gun. One name kept coming up to the top, Tooth and Nail Armory. (I was also looking to make an open pistol, but that is another and continuing story). I contacted Tooth and Nail and correspondence with them was always returned 24 hours or sooner. All questions I had were promptly answered, suggestions were made, and I felt very welcome and was excited to buy from them. When I finally ordered my shotgun I called on the phone and again Matt was great to deal with. Matt took the time to send me photos of the build, I watched the test fire video on the internet. Two weeks later I had my gun, my initial impression was “awesome!”. The gun arrived in a Plano case with 4 mags (1x23, 2x10, and 1x5). Also in the case was magazine couplers, chokes (not extended), and a beer opener, and heavy gas ring (light gas ring was installed). I looked over the create job and the gun was flawless as far as I could see. I had a mid mounted comp installed, it was seamless with very faint tool marks on the barrel. (Nothing I was concerned about, especially for a gun that is eventually going to get chucked into dump barrels). I was surprised at the weight of the gun, it looks like an AR so I immediately assumed it would weigh closer to my AR’s weight. I don't know the weight but definitely noticeably heavier. I finally took it out and ran 20 rounds through it. I loaded up the 10 round mags, the springs were very stiff and I initially had trouble loading them (trying to load them like a pistol mag). I learned a better technique and loaded up 10 rounds of 1 1/8 oz Remington Nitro Sporting Clays (about 1300 fps). This was my go to ammo with the SLP, the only thing it always ran 100%. I fired the first round and it failed to chamber the next. I racked the bolt, chambering the 2nd round and proceeded to dump the remaining 8 without a hitch. I chalked that first round up to being a new gun, new springs, and possibly me loading that mag. The 2nd magazine was 1oz Remington Nitro Handicap. This was a lighter load that my SLP would choke on about 1 out of 5. I usually ran this load in the wives 930 JM. Its a lighter load running about 1250 fps. I shot that entire mag with no issues ( in about 3 seconds!!!). I plan on continuing to test this weekend to include slugs, but I thought I would give my initial impression and review of Tooth and Nail. In a nut shell Tooth and Nail Armory has been a pleasure to deal with. I have dealt with plenty of smiths and online distributors and this transaction has rated in the top two in the last 5 years. The shotgun was everything I expected, the customer service was prompt and friendly, I will definitely be calling Matt and Josh when I finally decide the route Im going for my open pistol. The only nitpick thing I would have liked to see is extended choke tubes, oh and a t-shirt with their logo! If your in the market for a new gun or smith, check these guys out. PS Im not sponsored by them nor do I have connection to them. I just was really impressed with their product and level of customer care!

  20. I called Safariland and Bladetech and both say they don't have a holster for the STI DVC Limited 9 with level II retention. I recently ordered and I'm trying to find something with a thumb drive or some other level II retention. I LOVE the idea of the 579 GLS Pro from Safariland with the Middle finger release, but they don't make it for the DVC. I need Level II because the crazy things they have us doing along with the Battle Rattle's I compete in make it easy for a Level I to fail. Thanks for your help!
  21. Hello Everyone, I just wanted to get feedback on a custom build order I am about to submit to JP Enterprises. I have weighed the cost vs. benefit of building my own rifle, and decided (for a number of reasons) that I want JP to build mine. Their designs, craftsmanship, etc all fall in line with exactly the rifle I am looking for, so I really won't need to change a thing when I finally get it. My Build: JP-15 Upper/Lower Platform, Matte Black Anodized in .223 Wylde -18" Supermatch, 1:8 twist, light contour, black Teflon finish -Standard JP TRE-2 Comp, blended, black -Handguard: JP MK III Signature Tube, 15.5" Extra Long -Low Profile JP Adjustable Gas, black -JP Thermal Dissipator, black -TI-7 Adjustable Stock -Low Mass JP Carrier, black -JP Silent Captured Spring, std. weight -Comp Trigger, JP 3-3.5 lb. -Magpul MIAD grip, black -US Flag Lasermark (yup, it's happening) -2 inch rail for front sight, 12:00 position I actually called JP with a rough idea of what I was trying to build, and they were super helpful in helping me put together a solid build. Unfortunately, their CMT hours are hard for me to reach during a normal workday, so I figured you all could help. I am debating the Mk 3 Rapid Config tube instead of the signature, but it is really hard to tell from the website photos how aggressive the knurling is? I know the Mk 2 and prior were smooth aluminum, but the new Rapids are definitely textured. Just wondering if anyone runs this tube and how rough it really is? The weight savings of 3 ounces is worth considering (and no backplates needed for rail attachments). Also, does anyone have an 18" light bbl JP with (relatively) similar arrangements? The JP rifle builder does not specify the total build weight, which seems strange, but I actually put together a spreadsheet and came up with about 7.8 lbs (Signature tube), or 7.6 lbs (Rapid tube). Anyways, I know that was probably a boring read, but I am super pumped about submitting this order and want it to be perfect! Regards, Al
  22. Glad to be here. Trying to learn my way around the forums. Thanks in advance.
  23. What is a good Glock magazine baseplate for the 3-Gun that will add more rounds to the magazine? Thanks

  25. I am going to be setting up a Open Benelli M2 with an xrail for the 2015 3 gun season. I am looking for some input on an optic that will be reliable for the long haul. What are the hot optics right now? What do you use? or what have you seen be popular?
