Can anyone here give me some input on using the Stoeger M3000 as a beginner getting involved with 3-Gun? While it's made in Turkey and not Italy, at around $450.00 is seems like a tremendous buy compared to the Benellis which share the Inertial Operating System. It comes in a 26" barrel which would be legal for 3-Gun matches here locally. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys, Our department's competitive shooting team is hosting Cinco De Plinko, a big fundrasing event at ETTS Range on May 8th. ETTS is just south of Dallas. The match will consist of 6 stages. All firearms, ammo and a lunch will be provided. Staccato will be on site and providing all the pistols. Lantac USA will be onsite as well providing all of the rifles. Both these companies will have demo bays set up as well. Other firearm companies will be at the range as well. We will also have a helicopter at the range so you will have the opportunity to go up for a flight and do some aerial shooting. Match starts at 0900 and will be wrapped up by 1300. I learned the basics of marksmanship from the Army and went to a couple USPSA matches in 2016. I took a five year break from competitive shooting due to work and getting heavily involved with Jiu Jitsu. I'm still in the Army and train jiu jitsu... However, I caught the shooting bug last month and I've been competing almost every weekend, reading Ben Stoeger's book series (along with signing up for his 30-31OCT class), watched Keith Garcia's 3 gun DVD, waiting on Jerry Miculek’s 3 gun DVD, bought a Mantis X 10 etc. I plan on hopefully competing in the 2021 ALL ARMY MATCH –US ARMY SMALL ARMS CHAMPIONSHIPS 14-20 March I'll include my gear list and pictures below.. I recently bought a Sig P320 X5. I love the look and feel but I'm worried with some of the barrel/slide fit issues I've seen that have been causing accuracy issues. I've messaged a few people on this forum to get their thoughts on it. I am now very tempted to get a match barrel fitted from The Sig Armorer (along with his trigger). HI Ya, I have tried to use my new Beretta 92FS in a few steel matches. However after 10 years of using a Springfield XD9 I find it real difficult to start with the safety on as the range officer requested. Is that necessary? Or am I legit to start hammer down in double action mode? much obliged, Max

I’m not sure if there is a thread out there already, but has anyone used a 2 piece shell latch for their M2, that comes stock with a SBE3? Briley sells them and does the fitting work for them, just curios if anyone has ran one and the durability vs the spring steel stock caches, and if they are any smoother or less resistance. Thanks

I have always been a fan of the m&p line and would like to get into some competative shooting. I am military and tend to move around a bit and don't want to close the door on particular classes. Is it possible to get one pistol that can do major and minor without getting out of production or service pistol class? I have thought about a long slide m&p 40 core and dropping in a 9 barrel, but I think this maybe prohibited. Thanks for the pointers. I do reload, but 9mm bullets are more economical than 40s and I give up mag capacity.

Let me kickoff by just saying that BEnos has been an amazing resource that I've utilized over the years. I've learned an immense amount from the wealth of knowledge in the threads on this board, as well as in-person from many of the participating members. Additionally, I've collected my share of lumps as I've grown both in the sport and as an individual, gathering information about what works and what doesn't, "on and off the field". In my quest to better myself further and share what I've learned with others in this community, I've decided to finally go ahead and post here in the "range diary" section. Forgive the length of this first post, but I believe it's important to understanding my journey as a shooter, where I'm at today and what I hope to achieve. For starters, I'll kickoff with a history of my shooting background, and where I'm at today: I shot a firearm for the first time in 2009. Later that year, I joined the Baylor Marksmanship Association (an on-campus firearms club started by a now, close friend) and shot my first competition, a 3 gun match at Tac Pro Shooting Center. I had no quality gear, no skill and basically just flopped around like a fish out of water for the duration of the match. I can also say that it was one of the most fun experiences I've had, and I was immediately hooked on competing. Over the course 2010 I began to shoot as many 3 gun matches as I could (that meant about one a month or so), still flopping around mostly, until a friend and I discovered Magpul Dynamics. Yup, you read that correctly; the "tactical-Magpul-porn" was the first time I was able to actually understand some of the basic mechanics of recoil control and increasing shooting speed. At the same time, I was fortunate enough to meet some extremely skilled shooters (locally) who introduced me to this forum, and for all effective purposes, began to mentor me in all things related to our sport. Throughout 2011 and into 2012, I did a deep dive into understanding the best gear and parts, and shot as much as my college budget would allow, even having some moderate success with 3 gun - always in the running to win at my local area matches, and even doing decently (a relative term) at the 2 or 3 majors I had the opportunity to shoot. At the time, if I were to average/combine my shooting skills across the 3 different firearms platforms into an overall rating, my rifle would have been above my skill average, my shotgun loading would have been above my skill average with the shooting being about at my average, and my handgun would have been far below my overall average (that last part is important for where I'm at today). In the summer of 2012, I was involved in a serious accident that required some major hardware to be installed into me left leg, along with some otherwise invasive surgery. At that time, I basically hung up the shooting rig. I shot maybe 2 matches from 2012 up to 2016, mostly because friends asked me to, with a collective 200-300 additional rounds fired at an indoor range (static shooting) to practice for concealed carry or make sure the firearms were still sighted in, etc. In the summer of 2016, my wife encouraged me to begin shooting again, and I decided to start back into shooting with USPSA. I felt that my overall performance was always hampered by my ability to shoot handgun, and as such, I felt if I was going to improve, I might as well focus on this one area to start with. I got myself a production gun (CZ Shadow) and started shooting about twice a month for the remainder of 2016. At the time, I decided my #1 Goal was to make Master. I classified initially as an A in production, and at the time of posting, am sitting at about an 83% classification. At the kickoff to 2017 I decided I was going to pick up a PCC, immediately violating every reason that I had decided to go back to shoot USPSA, but come on...I love shooting rifle at things up close and with speed, so I figured I'd grab one and mess around for a bit, then go back to handgun...This picture really sums up what was going on inside my head: I made initial classification as Master on the PCC and was encouraged by many of my local match directors and coordinators to shoot some majors with the PCC in the 2017 season. Without drawing out this post, I figure that's a good place to stop. I plan to post up my AARs or Postmortems or whatever we want to call them, for the next few major matches I shot with PCC, and then link all of that information back up my ultimate goal of improving with my handgun. I appreciate any feedback you might have and look forward to utilizing this tool to keep myself honest respective to my growth and practice regimens, and again, hopefully share some knowledge with my fellow shooters.

I am shooting an M&P 2.0 5in for primarily 3 gun and also a little USPSA production to practice for 3 gun. What should I change on my gun to shoot flatter and recoil softer while staying legal in production and still able to reliabily shoot factory ammo. Tungsten guide rod, lighter recoil spring, something else? Please note that I wont be loading lighter ammo since I can't reload where I currently live.

Wasssup guys. Just scored a sweet deal on an STI Steel Master. I was looking to get one for the local club non uspsa matches and steel matches and also for 3 gun open division. A local guy contacted me and offered me one for 1200$ that has only 3k rounds and has been tuned by the illustrious Eddie Garcia. Also came sporting an RTS2 and with one 140mag with grahams guts and dawson follower. so i am pretty happy with it. My question is this, i have am extra PT grip laying around from when I upgraded to the PT EVO and was thinking about putting on this gun. I am not shooting steel challenge with it, it will only be for 3 gun and uspsa style and tuesday night steel matches. What is everyones thoughts on doing this? thanks for any and all input Jon

We just finished up the 3 gun season at our range in Minot, ND. It was a great year with lots of good times. This was our first year as a 3 gun nation affiliated club. We host a match every month on the 4th sunday of the month. Most months we ran at least one classifier and most everyone enjoyed the new style and the ability to be nationally ranked and see how they compare to more than just our club. Along with the 3 gun nation classifiers we still hold around 3 outlaw stages so we have at least 4 stages a month. Something else that we tried this year was a two man team 3 gun match, we had 13 teams of 2 shoot and everyone said they really enjoyed the new format. With such a great response for the team event we will be running another one next year possibly a little earlier in the year to take advantage of better weather. We had 4 different prop guns throughout the year from Automatic sub machine guns, to revolvers, to precision bolt rifles. Everyone enjoyed trying new guns that they may not have had a chance to ever shoot. This year we had a decent return of our regular shooter, but the big surprise was how many new shooters we got every month. I hope we continue to see as many people show up as possible because we love having everyone out. We will be taking November and December off for the holidays, but we will be starting our indoor 2 gun matches in January on the 28th. our 2 gun matches consist of 3-4 stages where you use your normal 3 gun pistol, and for your rifle any rimfire or pistol caliber carbine. The 2017 Shooters Source SW 3 Gun Championship Match will be on on November 18th at Triple C Range in Cresson, Texas. It is a 1 day, 6 stage match for shooters that participated in shooting at one of the monthly Texas clubs listed below since April 2017. The Championship Match will count towards your final series point’s total, which will determine the series winner of each division. Awards will be given for the top finishers in each division, the top 20% of each division will win cash during the Shoot-out Finale, and everyone will be entered into a random draw prize table. The Shootout Finale: A 1 vs 1 shoot-off after the Championship Match. TLDR~WGaS notes; My NEW general shooting Diary and Shot Mile High Showdown Funny how things go full circle. So I've been going back and forth for the past month about deciding if I wanted to restart a online Diary, this really came about when I finally renewed my USPSA membership. I've been real bad about keeping written accountability about my shooting for the past several years, but after RM3G last year (2nd year in a roll where I messed up my match) I decided enough was enough, I needed to keep some sort of accountability of how I'm shooting. That was also the tipping point of me starting in a new division in 3gun and going with it, and luckily finding great success in not only my ability to shoot this new division better then I have then any other division I took seriously, but also learning new things about myself as a shooter. The more serious I do take this the more I realize how much I've been slacking too. This was apparent after SM3G when it came to my pistol handling, I've been so use to "3gun" pistol target presentations of open paper targets at 10-15 yards shoot fast and hope you either got 1A/B or at least 2 hits it never really dawn on me how much my fundamental pistol skills deteriorated. The tight shots of partials wrapped around No-shoots at SM3G made me very timed and wasn't able to shoot what I thought was my potential. But the more I thought about it, the more I realize what I thought my full potential wasn't even close of where it should be and I've been mistakenly confusing it as 'Just good enough' pistol shooting. Looking back on a older thread here on the forum I debated if I should just post on my old thread that I created in Diaries section, but after a brief pause, I feel it is better to allow it to fade out and start a new. One of the things the things I really tried to push hard in the past thread was to make master from C class in production, that goal never did happen, I wasn't terribly crushed when I didn't do it at the time either as in that year I changed over to Open, and at the end of that year I took 3 Gun Seriously and it took all my attention away from USPSA pistol matches, so much in fact that I let my membership lapse the past 2 years and was completely ok with it. The more I think of it now the more I came to the realization that it was never about "earning" the M on my card but to get a point where I just wanted to be at a Master shooting Mentality. So I decided to go head first renew my membership and get back into the USPSA pistol scene, 3gun/multigun will always be my main discipline and thus take most of my time but I feel and know the stuff I learn from shooting USPSA translate very well into the 3gun seen. (ie mental preparedness, and stage break down, etc etc.) As much I want to jump back in Open I realize since now I'm shooting a iron sight class, shooting a reddot isn't going to help me out in the short run. and reality is I want to get back into production and just be Baller status, so as of now I'll be receiving my new Production pistol in several months, but I needed to shoot something till then, so I looked into the gun room and dusted my 6y/o 40 edge, since it was closer to my 9mm STI I use for 3gun, and go shoot limited for a while. I'd probably would have stayed in limited if it wasn't for the issue... Recoil ! Anyways we had a Level 2 match come up and I was able to get with Cha-lee too see if I could get on the waiting list as my membership was pending to get turn on active, while waiting I started constructive Dry-firing to improve on skills I felt I was lacking (like lack of finding a front sight). in case I would be able to shoot the match I didn't want to be to unprepared, luckily I was able to get in and was able to shoot this match. ------------------- So this past weekend I shot the Mile High Showdown. When I signed up for this match I only had one goal in mind, to find out where the hell I am at with my shooting. I dusted off my .40 Edge two weeks prior and shot one local match and 2 Night matches to see what rust I need to knock off and what I needed to focus on dry-fire before the match. The first night match was needed just to see if the gun would run correctly with Factory ammo, since i didn't have my .40 dies setup on my 550 and to see if they make PF, (WWB came out to be a little over 175PF in my gun, little spicy) Everything went well and the grouping with WWB was surprisingly tight at 25 yards, so that's when I realized not to mess with it and just go with WWB till after the Mile High. (This kind of made shooting this match a bit expensive ) knowing that I wasn't going to use any of this ammo for live fire practice, I put a large emphasis on dry-fire. The Weekend Prior I shot the Local USPSA match to kind of gauge who I need to shoot against who I felt was at my level of shooting, which I did based on % of how they finished at the match compared to the winning GM score. Monday night match following was when I put everything together from Dry-fire and where I wanted to push a little to see where I need to refine my skills at. Ended up placing 2nd that night behind Charlie.... like 71% behind Charlie lol. Besides that I did get a lot of intel on what I should work on prior to the match. Day 1 of the Mile High Showdown; I did have the "butterflies" going on as this has been the first big pistol match only I've shot in a few years, and on stage one you could tell it. Stage 1 was a wide open field course where shooting on the move can net you a good HF. I flow through the stage quite well but didn't do as much Shooting on the move as I would like. I opted to shoot the stage from 3 shooting positions instead but keep light on my feet so I can transition to the next spot seamlessly. My focus on my front sight was good on the first shot of every target, but the combination of nerves and the little voice in the back of my head yelling to speed up, made me break with less the optimal follow up shots, but with that being said I never lost sight of the front blade through the whole time, I ended up pulling the trigger on my follow up shot just as the front sight as it got within the rear sight. I believe the first 9 targets I shot at where A/C, with throwing a A/D in the mix, by the time I got to my ending shooting position I was a little more settle down and was able to see what my front sight was doing, which was great as the end part of the stage required a little more focus due to partial no-shoots. I ended up 4th on this stage behind the 3 GM's that where shooting in the Division, which I was quite happy with. Stage 2; Nothing fancy or out of the norm on my part, I did end up having a Jam after the 7th shot which I needed to cycle the gun real quick, that did cause me to completely stop all movement due to how the target where arranged, and I ended up doing a unplanned early reload because of this. My mags being unturned only are reloadable at 17rnds ( I can get a 18+1 start). I ended up reloading one target to early which caused me to slow way down on the steel as I plan to only shoot 16 rounds out of my last mag to finish the stage. I needed to hit the two mini poppers with the first shot or I would had been in trouble. In retrospect I had plenty opportunity to load into a 3rd mag before I reached the window but I didn't plan on it so I never gave myself the opportunity to think that I had it on my belt. Stage 3; Was Front sight bias and had 2 swingers that to me seem turbo'd charged. Even activating them early and shooting them last they were moving pretty good to the point where I even know I couldn't engage them with 2 shots on one passing, So I placed a great amount of energy in my walk through on how I would engage them with one shot per pass. I ended up doing well on the stage finishing 4th. Stage 4; Required a heavy front sight ususage, and was a partial memory stage with 8 targets either at 25 yards or beyond. For me I could best see array of 6 targets from one position with a little bit of hunting and shoot the last 2 targets from another spot in the shooting box. I'm not sure if it was the best way to shoot it but did end up 5th on that stage. Stage 5; was a 32 round stage with one shot per paper target score'd and lots of steel. Issue, you started with gun unloaded and on barrel with all magazines on belt. So that means I was only going to get 17rnds in my first mag, but I planned accordingly, before my first reload I would get at least 16 targets, and finish off the last 18 targets from one shooting position, if I happen to miss any targets I would throw a 3rd reload and engage some of targets a little further back that way I would have extra rounds on my 3rd mag by the time I got to my final shooting position in case I needed them. I thought I had everything worked out, but I didn't plan on murphy. Moving from my first shooting position to my second spot, I got in tight and fast on the stop, problem is when i did that the force dislogged one of the mags from my belt and sent it airborne to the side berm... Great.. Can't miss one shot, got it. I approached the top of the shooting area hit my final position and my only my only reload. From this position I they're 18 targets and I only had 18 rounds (17 in the mag 1 in the chamber) and at least half those targets were steel, as I aimed at my last target I was clean, I pulled the trigger and... click, sadface. I thought to myself I only loaded 16rnds in the mag I need to do a better count next time, I went to unload and show clear and guess what a round popped out, dead primer.... damn. Stage was scored 31 A's 1M 1FTE. This stage also cost me 4th place in the match itself as it was damn close between me and the guy I wanted to race. Stage 6; was a standards stages with weakhand and stronghand shooting with shooting freestyle being the last two strings, only kicker was the targets where spread out enough that you had to move in order to engage them. You could ether try to shoot on the move or get into a good spot and engage as many targets as you can and hit another spot, I did the later. Stage 7; was a repeat of stage 1 minus two steel targets, the difference is you started at the front of the stage, retreating backwards to targets. This stage went well for me and ended up finishing 5th Stage 8; was a repeat from stage 2 starting at the shooting window and the stage cut in half, I shot this stage maybe a little on concretively and didn't do as well as I wanted, thinking of it right now I just didn't shoot it as aggressive as I would like. Day 2: Stage 9; This stage is a mirror copy of stage 3, I basically did the same thing in reverse and shot it well placed 4th. Stage 10; was stage 4 but the memory portion removed a second shooting area put in, creating a mad dash to run up to the 25yard targets for a 8 target 3yard engagement between snow barriers that were considered walls. This where my first legit miss of the match came from. I got to the second shooting box and just went target focus as best as I could and just started to go as fast as I could moving left to right. Some how at 3 yards I yanked a shot . never did call it, never saw a front sight lol. Stage 11; was stage 5, with all steel removed, and loaded pistol start. This was also another stage that having only 17rnd mags sucked, I ended up having to change my plan from others and engaging two paper targets from a longer distance, just so I would have enough rounds to finish with only one reload, it cost me some time but not to much. Stage 12; was stage 6 with the standards removed, it basically 30 rounds as fast as you can with minimal movement with 3 shots per target, I ended up with a 13.5HF but only good enough for a 6th place finish. (Recoil sucks ) All in all the match went well for me and I ended up finishing 5th limited in the match, being just a little over 1.5% behind the shooter I wanted to chase to beat. The 3 GM's in the division shot phenomenal and couldn't be catch by at least 20%. I feel this has re-invigorate me a little to start taking USPSA pistol matches a little more seriously and I cannot wait to get my new production gun here a in a few months. ~EDIT: I'll Correct some grammar errors, when I have time. I've been looking to get a 2011. I've shot them a bit at matches and liked them, but it usually takes me a couple hundred rounds to find out if I really like the gun. This brings me to my question. I've been shooting CZ's but want to try something new for a bit. This gun will be for 3 gun only. I've read through lots of posts and can't decide on which gun to go with. I originally thought I would get and S.P.S Pantera to get my feet wet and see if I really like the platform but they are nowhere to be found in 9mm and I've been looking for the last few months. Then as i went deeper into the rabbit hole I discovered Atlas and CK arms. I'm at the point now where I'm not sure if I want to go all in on this gun and spend the $4k+ with a wait of a few months and not have it or should I hold out for a S.P.S Pantera if I can ever find one? My last option is to go middle of the road and get a STI Tactical or Edge. While I keep reading buy once cry once I'm not a firm believer in this saying as my CZ's are middle of the road and I love them. So this brings me to my question, Should I go all in on my first 2011? Money isn't a huge concern, but again being new to the platform I'm not sure if I'll appreciate the $4k+ on a custom 2011. Or should I start small, plan to shoot it and if I like it go custom then sell the original? last question, where are all the S.P.S. Pantera's in 9mm? All i find is .45!

On Sunday April 30th, 2017 York IWLA #67 is holding the Pennsylvania State 3 Gun Championship. This is a special event at York. It will be run under 3 Gun Nation Club Series rules. Registration will open to the public Friday January 13th, 2017. I will post the link and more information here on Friday!

I bought a new SP-01 safety model. This will be replacing my M&P 9 pro for 3 gun. When converting to SAO, is it all in the trigger or do I need to change the hammer too? I'm also going to remove the FPB if this makes a difference. For those of you who have built these guns, what all did you do?

Topton Fish and Game and Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club will be holding a 3 Gun series in 2016. It will be a four match series with all matches counting towards the prize table, but you can qualify for prizes shooting as little as one match. The match fee will be $30.00 per match, with a one time $30.00 fee if you want to be eligible for the prize table. The total for all 4 matches and the prize table will be $150.00. The prize table be made up up cash and some other prizes donated by sponsors. We will also hold a drawing for random cash prizes. Anyone that is eligible for the prize table and doesn’t finish in the cash or prizes will be entered into this random draw raffle. All cash and prizes are dependent upon the number of people that enter the points series by paying the extra $30.00. Once we know how many people have entered the points series we will announce the payout amounts. This match is more about having fun and introducing new people to the sport than having a big prize table. Points will be given by order of finish, the winner getting 100 points, 2nd place getting 98, third 97,4th 96 and so on. The winner gets one extra bonus point as we have done in the past. The matches will be April 17 and September 18 at Topton Fish and Game May 21 and October 30 at Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club You will use all three guns at all the matches and we will be using the 200 yard range at Topton and the 300 yard range at Ontelaunee at both matches. We will honor the following divisions. Open, Tactical Optics, Limited (irons, or non-magnified dot), and Pistol Caliber Carbine. The prize table for each division will be based on the number of entries in that division, If we have less than 6 people in a division we will not payout for that division, but I will make posts here and notify the people in those divisions so they can switch division if they want. Division rules will follow 3 Gun Nation guidelines. For pistol caliber Carbine division we will have different long range targets, similar to what 3 gun nation is doing. We will only accept registration for people paying for and registering for all four matches until February 26th.
