Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I just got my M&P9 Performance Center ported 4.25" all put together and ran it in a 3 gun match. Pretty easy adding a low mount dot to the mix, I usually reload, but was short so I ran Blazer brass 115gr. Shot really flat surprisingly. It wasn't too bad adjusting to the dot (Vortex Viper 6MOA) since I treated it like an irons gun on the presentation. The high suppressor sights made a big difference in finding the dot (I'm also a tad younger and my eyes are still kinda working). Planning on dipping the toes in Open minor in USPSA shortly.
  2. That load made 130pf in a non-ported gun, I have yet to chrono anything to see how much the ports are robbing the velocity. The goal with the slower powder and possibly lighter bullets is to minimize the dot movement even further by working the ports more, while also maintaining somewhere around the 130pf range. TiteGroup is my easy go to, but I have easy access to HP38 and Autocomp. I have not seen those other powders you mentioned locally, I have seen some VV and Ramshot powders.
  3. Finally got the Viper 6 MOA on and zeroed on my Performance Center M&P 4.25". I tried some 115gr with TiteGroup (130pf in Walther P99), Blazer 115gr brass, Winchester 124gr "NATO", and some 147gr with TiteGroup (128pf in Walther P99). With the factory springs it seemed like there is the least amount of recoil and dot movement with the 115gr projectiles. Should I try lighter projectiles? Slower powder? I was thinking of trying HP38 and Autocomp, But I have a good stock of TiteGroup. I would say the Blazer and TiteGroup 115's felt about the same.
  4. Really digging the Vortex Viper 6 MOA on mine. Great cowitness and price. I think it was #5 plate and "C" type screws.

  6. Following... Just made the switch using a lot of my gramps SS gear from the early days of USPSA, Wilson pads and brass pads on bunch of Wilson 8 round mags. and a handful of 10 rounders for Lim-10. Older 5" .45 Springfield loaded with an A&S MSH/magwell combo and other goodies sprinkled throughout.
  7. I believe you misunderstood. I'm excited to go open, but am still in the research stage and understand the cost of experimenting and finding what one likes. Experimenting is half the fun!
  8. By the amount of questions, products, and threads out there, "buy once, cries once", does't apply. More like, "buy many times, cry everytime". (haven't switched.... yet)
  9. Garmil, how is the build coming along? My dad just got his old Caspian back after selling to a friend a couple years ago. His was built back in '98 by Wayne Burquist in Naples, FL.
  10. Just me or is the magwell... uh... backwards?
  11. It wouldn't probably be more than 1 season, hopefully it will last that long. I average probably 1-2 mixed matches a month for my area. I would only have the major loads through the gun for USPSA matches.
  12. I would have to sacrifice too many other guns to get a Czechmate. A lot to invest before I even know I want to stick with open division.
  13. I have tried several of the smaller steel grips, even with a trimmed backstrap and grip safety. I just can't find a comfortable grip position that doesn't hit the bones in my hand. I have yet to find someone with a low ride safety to see if that gives some relief, I use a "ride the safety" grip like on my CZ and 1911 style guns.
  14. I agree with the M&P ergos. I have seen several people With CORE models running the Carver comp with good results. I like the idea of the porting just for ease of holster selection and working well with minor loads too. I'm used t 172PF in my Tangfo Limited .40. What about getting a second barrel for the ported model to use with a comp? Pre-lightened slide and I would have to get another barrel for the comp anyway.
