Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I've been shooting a few area 2gun matches we have in NE and Central Florida for the past 8+ years and the gear davsco listed above if what a large majority of the shooters use. Two rifle mag and two to three pistol mag pouches and a sling. Also a chamber flag and way to transport ammo and spare mags typically is all you'll really need. In the match I help run, a good majority of the shooters are LE/Former Mil and sometimes those guys run their duty set up as well but, that's not the norm. I only stated that part because some new shooters show up and see guys running plate carriers not knowing the shooters background and using the match for training purposes.
  2. Welcome from a new fellow new member.. I'll second the brass pick up. I've been shooting for quite a while and haven't gotten into reloading yet but, have been collecting brass for the past ten years. The private range I am a member at requires you police your own brass anyways and the local matches require each squad to clean up as well after they've shot the stage. I've probably given away ten's of thousands of brass I've picked up over the years and can conservatively say that I still have close to 60K rounds of 5.56, .308, and 9mm brass collectively.
  3. Thank you for the warm welcome Sarge and thank you for your service.
  4. Here's a tip I give to new shooters that come to the range I work at. I tell them that I also started shooting with my dominant eye closed when I first started shooting as a kid and it stuck with me till I got into competition shooting and using RDS' on rifles. What helped me during range sessions was to acquire the target/bullseye like I normally would with one eye closed and then I would open up my non dominant eye to get the sight picture I needed with both eyes open. Did that for a few range sessions and slowly brought speed into the mix. After a few months, it became second nature to pick up the front sight with my dominant eye with both eyes open.
  5. Thanks for the heads up. I relay the info over to him now.
  6. I unpack just the guns after a match or range session and into the safe they go every time.
  7. Thank you Sir. Looking forward to absorbing as much information as possible.
  8. Is that what Glock 19's are really selling for currently? I only ask because my cousin in SD was asking my opinion about a particular G19 he was looking to purchase but, I told him to pass on it because the owner stippled the frame and it wasn't all that good of a job from all the other offerings I've seen out there. I want to say the seller was asking $700 for the gun and if used factory G19's are going for $1200, I may tell him to grab it and he can send it off to get the stippling redone.
  9. Congrats.. I know it's going to take me a while to reach that milestone but, I'm going to enjoy the journey..
  10. I agree. I installed a set of Talon grips on my G34.3 and it's made a world of difference for me when shooting matches, especially during the Florida summers.
  11. I appreciate the welcome HP Jack... LOL @ your Grumpy comments.. The STI I have is a double stack 2011 but, I definitely have some traditional 1911's in the safe as well. I posted earlier regarding my reloading situation and I take it you two are the go to guys for questions on this subject?
  12. Thanks for the warm welcome GrumpyOne. I live in Jax and work part time at the Gun Gallery. I've actually shot a few matches at GTR and their 2gun match is a spinoff of the one I shoot here in my area. I'm mainly into AR's and handguns but, also shoot LR semi auto rifles as well. I've stayed with the most common calibers so far and sold off some of my others because I just wasn't shooting enough of it to justify keeping it around (6.8, .300blk, etc). I pretty much have 9mm, .45acp, 5.56, .308, and 12ga.. I do not reload yet but, it's been in the plans for years. I do not have an ideal area in my home where I can set up a station but, that should change pretty soon with my oldest leaving the house.
  13. Greetings all... My name is Jimmy and I've grown up around firearms my entire life as my father was in the military. I did not get serious in to guns and training until I was well on my way with the family life and finally purchased my first home. I was one of those guys that thought that owning a gun and being somewhat safe was all there was. Then around 2005 I attended my first 2gun match and it was a done deal. I dove head first into it and haven't let up. I even work part time at a LGS just so I can be around and talk about this lifestyle. I'm already a member on a few other forums but, I want to take my pistol shooting to the next level so, I just plan on sitting back and reading for quite a while. I consider myself a decent shot and for now, I only ever have time to shoot our local 2gun matches since those are held on Sundays. I would love to attend a pistil only match but, getting off from work can be a little tricky. Anyways, I look forward to absorbing as much as I can from the SME's on this site and hope to also contribute myself someday soon. I primarily shoot a Gen 3 G34 in matches but, I recently picked up a STI to get back used to shooting 1911 style guns.
