Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. 44 mag is very versatile. I've used H110, 2400, Unique, Power Pistol, N350, No 9, No 7. Power Pistol is very consistent using loads in between 44 special and 44 mag. Same with N350. 2400 is really flexible in 44 mag. Lyman has data for cast bullets in 44 special using 2400 which surprised me because I thought 2400 needed high pressure to work well. It all depends on what you want to do with it. There is an old IMR manual that can be found that has has loads with really slow stuff like IMR 4198, 3031, etc. I tried IMR 4064 just for kicks and it worked, really soft. Bottom line is 44 mag will do a lot of different things and there is tons of data for it.
  2. I have a RO in 9mm. Took a while to get it to run well. Changed mags and ammo. Still had double feeds. Took out the extractor and it was mangled. Changed that and it seemed to do the trick. I have two STI Trojans in 40 that have run great from day one. Same goes for the SW1911E I have. The SW is a good value for the $ if you want to run 45. The sights aren't great and SW Mills their slides funky for their sights. That can be a problem. Great customer support. I really like the external extractors on the SW and the Sig's. They just work from what I've seen.
  3. I bought a RO in 9mm to shoot SS minor. I had extraction issues right off the bat. Took it to my gunsmith. The extractor was bent. He replaced it with a Aftec and it's been good since. I use the Hogue magwell grips and MSH to make weight. I also replaced the front sight and put ambi safety on it. If I had it to do over again I'd buy the Sig. Either the traditional match if I wanted to customize it my way or the Max if I wanted to plug and play.
  4. I have an RO and STI USPSA in 9mm and 2 Trojans in 40. The RO is a nice piece for the money although I've had to tinker with it to get it run (new extractor, polish the feed ramp, etc.). My Trojans have run great from day one. A buddy of mine has the Sig match in 40 and it runs like a top. If I wanted a new 9mm I would look at the Sig or the S&W. I think the external extractor is a good idea in 9mm. Just my two cents.
  5. From one Jarhead to another (3rd MAW 1983-87), if you want a 2011 get one. I've tried to do other things, Glock, M&P, blah, blah, blah. If I counted all the money I've put in non-2011s I could have bought an edge and a few mags. With that being said the tac sports are really nice and competitive. If I had it to do over again I would have got the tac sport or a 6" eagle. I know it ain't easy buying nice stuff on an enlisted man's pay but, heck, you only live once. Semper Fi, brother.
  6. I had a batch of freedom 180s that were pretty hot. PF 185 at Michigan last year out of a 5.25" barrel. I guess they can vary quite a bit.
  7. What he said. However, he will set up your trigger however you want it. Crisp, rolling break, etc....
  8. I use the TTI heavy magwell and mag extensions. They work well together. I'm not sure TTI makes the heavy magwell anymore. I can only get 19 in my mags with the TTI extensions. Shot with a guy that uses Arredondo and he gets 20 no problem.
  9. Johnny Glock does a great trigger. He'll spend the time talking to you to find out exactly how you want it set up. I like mine.
  10. The first pistol I bought to compete in USPSA was an STI Trojan in 40. The guys I shoot with told me to get Tripp mags. It's been a great setup. Very reliable. The Sigs run well. Either would be my choice.
  11. I run a FF3 on the Springer mount. So far, so good. I have about 500 rounds through that setup with no problems.
  12. MecGar 17 round + Springer mag extensions give me 21 reloadable. Ran them at a match last weekend and had no problems. I did a little filing on the followers nothing major. With the Wolfe +5% springs they won't lock the slide back. I'm going to try the +10% and see how that works.
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. First the price of crap hex screw I bought at AutoZone was too small for the set screw. I reckon you get what you pay for. After I got the trigger out I managed to get the set screw out with a better quality set. This was my first time taking a CZ apart. The apart process was a piece of cake. Putting the sear cage back in made me say a few words that my grandmother would have taken a switch to me. All's well that end well. Set screw is out. Pistol is assembled and appears to be function properly.
  14. OK. Here is what I got. The over travel screw is is preventing the trigger from going back far enough to release the hammer is DA. I tried backing it out with a 1.5mm hex but it has locktite or something because I can't get it to rotate. I still have the stock trigger and I was thinking that I could put that back in and see if that works. My question is can I replace the trigger without taking out the sear cage and all that jazz. In any case, I'm in a fix because I have a match this coming weekend and my pistol is dead in the water.
  15. What springs are you using? With the stock Mec Gar springs I get 21 but the +10% springs the came with the basepads are giving me fits, 19, 20 if I'm lucky. The coils don't seem to fit the followers.....
