Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Maybe you are just more sensitive to what is going between you and your gun. With experience, a minor hesitation or mistake seems like the end of the world.
  2. Shooting a 586 no dash, 3.1 gr 231, Federal match primers for 50 yards for 1500. Using Precison 158 swaged swc. I don't think the rifling is fast enough for hbwc at 50 unlike my Douglas barreled K frame.
  3. You might check the lower pin on your comp 3's, if it is pushed out one side it will interfere with the spring and not lock the cartridges. I use the loading blocks for everything from IDPA to PPC with both standard comp 3's and cut ones. Round nose to full wad cutters.
  4. That is an easy one. Safariland makes the 568 which with the paddle provides a great holster for production or any other competition use. The price point is excellent and midway offers free shipping. The belt loop option does not ride as nice but allows you to use a belt wider than 1.50-1.75. The belt loop rides a bit higher and puts all the weight on one narrower location of the belt like many other holsters. The paddle distributes the weight. On the heavier guns like the N frame or L frame , the older padded paddle(look in gun shows) is a great replacement for the current synthetic paddle.
  5. George said it all. This is treading in the area we settled on a few years ago about a dual penalty for the same violation i.e. double jeopardy.
  6. If one Dq's , one had best be able to point at a specific rule justifying it. Unsportsmanlike like conduct is the last and weakest reason, when one needs to get one off the range and nothing else works.
  7. Some of you are breaking my heart. The 586 and 686 no dash are the best that S&W came out with as a production gun. The 586 no dash and 686 were S&W shot at competing with the Colt Python. There were a couple of minor teething problems. They were the fixed hand which if done right gave a really crisp trigger, but if done wrong needed adjustment. Additionally the 124 gr .357 Remington came out and the gun was not set up for it. Ended up with primer flow from those rounds coming back onto the firing pin and bushing. S&W , for nothing, will change out the bushing and firing pin and deal with the problem if you shoot those rounds. Trade your 686 no dash out to someone who appreciates the best of the best S&W and buy yourself something else to chop up. Jim
  8. That would be about right. I had a -7 that S&W had to replace the cylinder as the boring was so bad.
  9. Using that line of thought the only division would be open.
  10. Just sold my 686 performance center mim parts gun after three trips back to the performance center and 2 trips to a really good gun smith. My 586 no dash and 586-1 will go with me to my grave.
  11. Yep, the problem is due to the cumulative nature of gun modifications allowed . My Glock 19 is a carry gun, modified to fit small hands. Those truly focused on being competitive in ESP are addting the mag well which adds a fraction of a second, shooting a Glock 17 with another 1/2" of sight radius adding another fraction of a second, on and on. In the end my carry gun , simply modified to fit small hands, cannot compete at the same level as I am fighting the edge on equipment.. Jim
  12. I like it, I have small hands and had to do a grip reduction on my Glock 19 to be able to shoot it adequately. Up to this division I was consigned to a division where the gun was frankly non competitive.
  13. Good catch, there were probably still rounds in the cylinder. Going to have to make it safe in the bay. Jim
  14. It was a normal malfunction for a revolver. The bullet, not a loaded round, was stuck between the forcing cone and the cylinder. Once you determined it was just a piece of lead, treat it the same as a piece of lead stuck solely in the barrel. If it could not be readily cleared in the bay, get him into the safety area to play with it. Jim
  15. Squib is just a piece of lead in the barrel. It isn't ammo. So taking it to the safe area is fine. If the gun had jammed, as in a failure to feed,, that would have to be cleared in the bay. If it could not be cleared, call for a gun smith who can make the gun unable to fire and thus safe, bag it and the shooter can leave the bay with a bagged gun. Jim
