  1. Why do you want full ambi? Are you left-handed? You can get an ambi safety on the Stealth Arms platypus and stay well under budget. Here's one I specced out that might fit if the ambi mag catch is negotiable: Linky! The grip should be enough you don't need tape. I optioned the competition trigger (2.5-3.0 lbs), RMR/SRO cut, and ambi safety. In IDPA shooting a 2011-style gun the ambi safety is a must. Bull barrel because it pushes the threading back a bit closer to the slide leaving you more room for a comp. There are also options for porting.
  2. It says right there that red dots will be repaired or replaced for free for life. Their electronics sections doesn't mention a 2-year warranty on red dots, only their other electronic products. I couldn't find the fine print to determine if they lump their dots into that electronics category, but I can tell you for absolute sure that Leupold replaces their red dots past the 2 year mark. To your original question, I looked at your optics as an option but the warranty was a no-go for me. Every pistol-mounted red dot I have ever owned required a warranty replacement at some point. Maybe things are different now (returning after several years away from the game), but my past experience indicates that a long warranty is a requirement.
  3. I wonder if they are moving slower now. When I bought my Athena last year trying to find one in stock was almost impossible. They just sold so fast whenever a dealer got one. Now I look on GunBroker and there's a bunch listed and available right now. Either their production went up or they just aren't selling as fast.
  4. Might work out to your benefit. I just saw in an email from Portside that Atlas is releasing 2 new models this month.
  5. I have done this before. Tossed the whole jug. Just wasn't worth the risks. The plus side is that the more expensive the mistake, the less likely you are to do it again. Now I only have one powder on my bench. No exceptions, no matter what.
  6. Currently trying a #2, may go back to #1.
  7. I don't understand why all the parts manufacturers and builders are using tiny hex screws instead of torx. I replace the hex screws with torx wherever possible.
  8. I feel you man. I really started burning out around 2017. Would just show up for locals 1-2 a month and stopped dry fire and practice. In 2020 when the pandemic hit I just lost all interest and walked away for the past three years. Even left the powder in the hopper. Finally felt like getting back into the swing a couple months ago and it's been fun so far. In a lot of ways it's like being completely new again. I suck (more), and the people have changed so there aren't many familiar faces. A lot harder to get time to practice or compete though. Older kids and work didn't get any easier. Will it still be fun in a month, or a year? Beats me. But I will try and enjoy while I can. We've shot together a few times btw, hope you are doing well.
  9. DAA Max should fit both. Won't break the bank either.
  10. I ordered an Athena from a dealer a couple weeks ago. Surprised it showed up in a hard case. No intention of using it. Just too big and heavy. Might make a great organizer though.
  11. Ordered mine when they offered the RMR/SRO cut. Going to be a long 14-16 weeks.
  12. That's a terrible deal, definitely don't buy it. Who is selling that btw? Just curious.
  13. What did Staccato do to your gun? I had an STI that had the same issues but with irons. Sent it back to STI and they ended up replacing the barrel to fix the issue. Was a little bummed since the old chamber was cut so long I could load 170gr 9mm without running into OAL issues. Those loads shot so soft.
  14. Of course a manufacturer is going to tell you not to spray them with silicone. I promise you they have not done extensive testing to determine the effect that silicone has on primers. From a liability perspective there is absolutely zero reason for them to say go do it, even if they were 99.9999999% sure it wouldn't hurt anything. Ask a gun manufacturer if we should use reloaded ammunition in their firearms, yet how many of us are doing just that against their recommendation.
  15. Would be nice to have a single place for all the CO stuff instead of hunting around the Open and individual brand forums
  16. This looks like the best dot on paper. I love my DPP, my only complaints are the 2.5 moa dot and the stupid control button. The dot looks bigger than it is on full brightness, but it is also not crisp and well-defined at that setting. I would prefer a larger (6 - 8 moa) reticle. The SRO combines Trijicon durability, a monster window, and better dot size (5 moa) along with better controls. Also, Euro Optic has it for $490 on preorder. I wouldn't be surprised to see it a bit cheaper than that online. An extra 150 - 200 vs a DPP is pretty small in comparison to cost of the entire package or ammo.
  17. Mobil 1 10w30 fully synthetic. Stays where you put it, doesn't burn off. All my guns get it. I don't grease my 2011s, but for guns that do I use TW25B.
  18. I asked my area coordinator this question months ago. The answer was if it was built without a grip safety then it was good to go. If you add a grip without a safety later (ie add an Evo) it's not legal.
  19. I went with a Dawson arched mainspring housing on my STI. I don't know if the housing was out of spec (Dawson claims this isn't possible) or the grip was out of spec, but I had to remove a fair amount of material to fit the mainspring housing. I definitely prefer arched to a flat housing, but other than handling a few 1911s with a wedge I have no experience with wedges.
  20. Acme has never had a Black Friday deal better than their regular price minus the 10% Enos discount
  21. I didn't actually order it (thought I might). If you get a group of local people together it's a good way to split costs. Find a guy who wants some Hodgdon powder with free hazmat, add some primers for yourself, and some for a few other buddies who want to get in on it.
  22. Midsouth is free hazmat on $140 of Hodgdon powder plus they have Fiocchi SPP for $280 per 12k case. Shipping does not scale linearly with order size. So pick up an 8 lb jug of your favorite (Hodgdon) pistol powder and as many primers as you want. Shipping on 8 lbs of powder with 72k primers was $18.
  23. Comptac international for an edge fits my hex perfectly
  24. I have 3, not a single issue with any of them.
  25. I like the Walmart waterproof box and the berrys boxes. I checked out the Ikea boxes, the lids will pop off with just a little tap, but I bought a few for storage anyway . Bags and such are fine for hauling ammo, but trying to load from a bag sucks. Same with any narrow mouth container like a coffee can.
