Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. +1 I totally agree with mattjoe and MAC702 when it comes to the Scorpion needing upgrades, but they are available for a reasonable price. As they said, the right-side safety definitely needs to be replaced. HB Industries offers both a full-size and mini reverse lever as well as a "delete" button to eliminate the lever all together (they also have few different mag releases). Upgrades are available from companies such as HB Industries, Yeti Wurks, GearHead Works, Shooters Element as well as CZ Custom ( a forum vendor here on BE). The trigger weight issue can be addressed with a simple $8.95 spring kit. From the reasonable starting price to reasonable accessory and upgrade pricing, I think the CZ Scorpion is a real contender.
  2. John, Check out King's Shooter Supply in King of Prussia, PA. Great place and very knowledgeable staff when it comes to reloading and reloading supplies. It's the home of "Roger's Better Bullets". Widely used source for competitive shooters in many disciplines (IDPA, USPA, Steel Challenge).
  3. Yes, you can have the "hood" open and still have retention on the trigger guard. I went to the WRS precisely for that feature. In a stage where I start with the rifle (where I may be either prone or at odd angles) I like the extra security of the hood. If the stage starts with the pistol, I simply leave the hood open and the holster still has retention.
  4. njl, Did you check the Rudy Project link in the Dealer Forum? http://bit.ly/rudy-gen1
  5. Lazer, Sorry I missed you this morning at Topton. The next steel league match is next Sunday at Guthsville. If you can make it, maybe I can catch up to you there. FYI, the scores are already up on Pratiscore.com.
  6. Awesome! Shooting slugs is a weakness for me. Usually no problems from a bench, but trouble during a match. I'll be looking into having one mounted as well.
  7. 200gr. Lead SWC from Roger's Better Bullets. Nice hard-cast lead (less fouling to clean). They also have poly-coated, but I haven't tried those yet.
  8. +1 for the M&P 45 Very reliable out of the box; runs everything I put through it. The interchangeable back straps make it easy to customize the fit. I also have the M&P Pro 9mm (5") and the barrel length "in the hand" difference with the full size 45 is minimal. I use it for IDPA (CDP) and have done a few upgrades: 10-8 Performance front FO and plain (black) rear sights Apex sear (with a little TLC on the trigger parts) Damato Custom stippled back strap
  9. Another vote for the TTI mag extensions. And they are available in your choice of 7 colors!
  10. Comp-Tac (www.comp-tac.com) also produces their holsters in blue, pink, purple and red. Great company to deal with, and their production time is currently listed as 7 days.
  11. I have the Carbon Arms dummy rounds. They are a good value for their intended use. The following is from their website: There are a few things to realize with Dummys in normal 12 gauge hulls. 1. They do not have an infinite life. We have had a few guys send a few back and the shells are completely destroyed. Chambering shotshells, of any kind, will only let them last so long, especially if your shotgun has any alignment issues. 2. Keep them clean. A few we got back were embedded with dirt, in the crimps and the hulls. Putting those in your tube or chamber, no wonder they were not feeding well. 3. Dummys are meant to practice loading primarily, not use for shooting drills and "dryfire" like snap caps. ALL of them will eventually have damage to the rim and primer if you use them in that manner. We seal the crimp, but some gear maintenance, like inspecting the crimps once in a while, is a good idea. We seal them with a clear silicone, which you can easily redo. I have a set of 4 that have been loaded a lot, and they are still pristine, but I don't drop the firing pin on them nor do I chamber them.
  12. +1 I hit Home Depot looking for mounting hardware so I could use the ELS fork. I gave up and did the same as rboyes. Works great; solid, no issues.
  13. I use the Blade-Tech DOH WRS as well. I like the additional security it provides when the stage requires multiple shooting positions and movement with the rifle or shotgun before deploying the pistol.
  14. +1 for the Brownells 3-gun soft case. It comes with a pistol rug, padded backpack-style straps and heavy-duty zippers. Plus, it's made in the USA!
  15. Nice simple set up. It covers an area that causes most new shooters a problem. Perfect for both rifle and pistol.
