Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. I have the same issue. I finally fitted a thin 1/16" spacer under the stock 1911 grips (on each side) which gives me a 1/8" wider grip. I've done this many times, and made the spacers out of many materials - metal, Delrin, plastic. Takes me less than a half hour to fabricate. Works fine for me, YMMV.
  2. Yes, Thanks, I am using extended firing pins.
  3. Any feedback on these primers in 38SC or 9mm Major? I haven't tried them yet but am using up my stash. I have tried Wolf srp, CCI 400 and 450, Win sr, Rem 6 1/2, and Federal sr, with no problems. All the small pistol primers I've tried also work for me. Worked means the primer goes off every time. What has not worked are Rem 7 1/2 and CCI 41. I'm using an 18lb hammer spring in a 2011. Any input from those who have used the Fiocchi Small Rifle Primers in these calibers? Thanks in advance.
  4. Look at the bottom side of your priming punch. There's a sheet metal "punch support bracket" that the punch rides on when seating the primers. That bracket can wear and/or move. I fixed mine by putting a small shim under that bracket to restrict the punch's downward movement. VMMV.
  5. I had an identical issue on a used Limcat that had been thoroughly abused by both good and bad gunsmiths. Long story short, the sear itself had been shortened by a too aggressive stoning. Replaced the sear and hammer, problem went away.

    38sc brass

I posted that there were good prices at CZ Custom: doesn't look like they're listing it anymore. Midway has nickle brass listed now at $90/500.
  7. Re: Light strikes. Make sure your firing pin is not bent: don't ask me how I know!
  8. And it did. A designated spot for the shooter takes care of this in advance.
  9. I've had shooters hovering over the Chrono, trying to read the numbers, and even one who was trying to insure i was handling his pistol properly. YMMV
  10. In addition to the above, make sure you have a designated area (I've used a 3x3 shooting box) for the shooter to stay in while you are testing his setup. Another thing I found helpful: get a small, cheap powder funnel. Put it over whatever container you're going to use to hold the powder from the pulled cartridge. Use your inertia puller to pull the bullet, then dump the contents out into the funnel. Shake the funnel, powder goes into the container, bullet stays in the funnel. No digging around for the bullet in a container of powder.
  11. They're pretty easy to make yourself. I've used steel, brass, aluminum, and the easiest to work delrin (sp?). Use 1/16" sheet (.0625) for a 1/8" width grip increase.
  12. Thank you for the response, I'll try that.
  13. I just installed a Dillon Case Feeder on my 650. I was surprised at how much noise was generated when there are cases in the hopper. I may be more sensitive to the noise because of my hearing aids. Has anyone found a way to suppress the noise at all? Maybe wrapping the hopper in some kind of insulation? Thanks for any help.
  14. Accurate #7 (9.8 gr to start) or Silhouette (8.0 gr to start). Shooter's World Major Pistol is also poplar with some guys in my club in SuperComp, but I haven't tried it.
  15. 1) Determine where the screw hits the bottom of the dovetail and put a shallow divot there. I'd also modify the screw to fit in that divot. 2) The dovetail may enlarge over time (at least two of mine have). I put a small shim with a hole for the aforementioned divot under the dovetail on mine. Then blue locktite. YMMV
