Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. That box still has sharp corners. Are you sure it was delivered by UPS? Everything heavy I've ever received from them has been clearly dropped from a height at every opportunity. Out of spite, I assume.
  2. Yesterday, November 14th, I joined 1000 fellow shooters at Ben Avery Range in Arizona to touch off 1000 simultaneous (as much as you can get from 1000 people anyway) shots fired. Twice. It was a sunny, 84-degree day with a pleasant southerly breeze blowing in. Could not have had a better day or setting for this event. While the shooting positions were tight, we cooperated together and got 'er done right! It was a testament to the organizational efforts of the Arizona Department of Fish and Game, the NRA, the Maricopa County Sheriff Department, and sundry others I cannot recall. A gathering of several thousand participants as many observing as shooting. I had the honor of standing with them during our national anthem, and several addresses by significant members of the event. In addition, I was able to shake hands and thank numerous vets for their service to this nation. And then, I got to pick up my rifle and join 999 others... I have to say it was the nicest .22LR firearm I have ever handled, and in a few weeks, it will be transferred to my ownership - serial is 117 in a series of 1000. Just plain cool in my book. A special day, whether Guinness will ever acknowledge the event, or not. Just being there to help raise funds for the NRA and its' programs and to do so without incident was stellar.
  3. Pick up a new rifle and it's recalled the day I get it. Arrgggh!!! Mods, hope this is generic enough, it's really a rant about my rotten luck, not a complaint about the product. I'm VERY happy with the product, just not so much about sending it in so soon.
  4. Safe travels, Brian. We'll keep the heat on while you're away.
  5. I think the title says it all. Blew out my shoulder installing a hitch on my truck. Had the right side done November of last year after 12 years of suffering. Blessed relief. But we are in the middle of a HUGE tech roll out. Timing could not be worse. NOBODY gets time off for the month of October. My team starts 12 hour shifts tomorrow, I've been 'volunteered' to sit on the phones Sat-Mon and then "get" to go back to my team for 12 hour shifts for the rest of this week. Every other member of my team has a day off - not me. Just praying this roll-out doesn't turn out to be a magnificent cluster and that we don't go through all of October 7X12. Oh, and let's put the cream garbage frosting on this poop cake, shall we? I'm moving this month too. GO ME!
  6. Busy night yesterday, sorry for the delay. $650 for the event where list for an off-the-shelf Silver Boy is $599.95, street prices seem to come in at the high 400's to mid 500's for one without any special provenance or engraving. Bearing in mind that the basic entry was $20 and that remaining $630 is the shipped price for a one in 1000 issue? Granted it is a 22lr, and Henry products are pretty dear for what they are, I guess time will tell. I assume that there will be some posted on GunBroker and elsewhere the day they are retrieved at their named FFL. But, considering that my wife didn't even hesitate when I brought it up -- priceless! Fodder for the "Things I Like" forum.
  7. I guess I lucked out and the roster is now full. It was $20 to participate with a commemorative tee shirt and cap. I bit for the event plus owning the rifle I am firing at a significant added charge. Since it has event-based engraving and was roughly at list, shipped to my FFL. I'm not feeling like I was taken advantage of; particularly with it being one of 1000 issued. As far as what it is about: " On November 14, 2016, at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, Ariz., history will be made. 1,000 freedom-loving Americans will join together to set a World Record by simultaneously firing 1,000 Henry Repeating Arms Golden Boy Silver rifles! That's right, one week after the 2016 Presidential Election, the NRA and Henry Repeating Arms will be setting a firearms World Record. " The engraving
  8. So I bit and signed up for the 1000 Man Shoot at Ben Avery range on 11/14/16. I am deluded, perhaps, but this seems to be one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Check it out if you don't know what I'm talking about. Agree/Disagree? Anyone else in the #EnoVerse going? It would be nice to shake a hand or two in the process.
  9. And no time arrived on my doorstep today, thanks Brian!
  10. to leaving half of your reloading kit behind. Moved to Phoenix to take on a new job. I packed up my car with my "can't live without it" goods, including, I thought, my reloading setup. Uhh, nope. When I started to set it up, I realized that my dies, assmbled toolheads, and conversions are still sitting in a box in MO, waiting to be moved. So how does that EVER have a bright side? Having 2 .45 acp pistol setups, one that shoots reduced load SWC's very well and the other that does not - now I get to have two complete setups instead of bouncing back and forth. Just ordered another deluxe toolhead conversion, die set, and caliber conversion via Brian. I'll be rockin' out stouter reloads for my XD in no time!
  11. Ever grateful that I moved to Phoenix. My old workplace had two feet of hail piled up yesterday. That's not a misprint -- TWO FEET. Enjoy the "spring", I'll be begging for respite in a month or two...
  12. I "land" in Phoenix next Tuesday to do my pre-employment testing and some training. The biggest goal is to find somewhere to live - FAST. Driven by what I can find, and what I can afford until our other properties are sold and/or occupied, I've narrowed my search down to a few areas. Sun City/Grand/West Surprise El Mirage Glendale Avondale I'm will be working at the intersection of 101/17, if that makes a difference. The goal is to have a reasonable commute, less than roughly 15 miles and to not live in a war zone. Are these reasonable communities for a bluish-white collar worker to reside? Any advice is appreciated. Pretty pumped about the opportunities to get involved in steel and action pistol even as a novice at 59 too. I don't expect to win, I expect to learn and improve. See ya' at Rio!
  13. Thanks, I have seen Rio discussed on other threads, and the membership is very reasonable but with a few hurdles to jump. I'll have to look at Ben Avery more closely.
  14. Back on topic. If you were plunging face-first into old fartitude. With a degrading spine and wrecked shoulder on your dominant arm, had never been involved in any competitive shooting at all and had an interest in the NRA Action-style events. What would you try, and where would you try it out in the Phoenix area? I KNOW I'm not competitive, and will never be. I'm into this for the learning and camaraderie and for a reason to be out of the house in my free time Not to mention "having" to reload more.
