Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. i have been putting tape over my left eye since pretty early on in my shooting and have never gotten over needing it. i saw a pretty big improvement in transitions being able to have both eyes open instead of squinting my left eye. i guess you could say i'm addicted to it.
  2. "If it fits it ships" unless the shipper wants to make sure you actually get what you ordered by taping it excessively? Usps has always been a joke, but that is over the top.
  3. Another user of 13lb ismi springs here.
  4. I have been through 5 safety pins in 5 years on my 550. Best solution i have found so far.
  5. Old topic, but i find it interesting that this is one of the hottest debated topics on gun forums, yet when i was looking a few years ago, and again a few months ago, you still can't find very many straight answers. I shoot only hard cast lead bullets. I was faced with the reality that i was going to either have to shoot plated/jacketed bullets at a gssf match and use the factory barrel, or get to the bottom of whether or not you can shoot lead out of a factory barrel. I went out and shot 400 rounds out of 2 different 34s, 10 rounds at a time, each time disassembling and checking the barrels. My own experience was that factory barrels lead faster than my KKM barrels, or my xdm factory barrels, or my 1911 barrel. I also found that the lead came right out of one of the barrels, while i had to really scrub the other. There is potential truth to the kaboom stories, but it seems easy to avoid. And that is by cleaning your barrel every 300 rounds or so. I have since shot hundreds of rounds out of g26, g17, and g34 barrels. They never get scarily leaded, but i do get paranoid and check on them around the 200 round mark. Every glock is different. Be careful, and pay attention to the signs.
  6. i don't know how much you know about this stuff, so don't be annoyed if i'm stating stuff you already know. the 1080p part is the resolution. if you're wanting the best possible picture, you want to use 1080. any lower number is simply a smaller sized video, so when it is blown up to play on a screen, it looks worse. the only reason he could be having better luck with a smaller resolution is because of other settings inherent in the resolution presets on those cameras, and not because he is using a smaller resolution. 30 fps is fine. some people record at 60fps (myself included) when wearing the cam, because stuff is moving so fast, the extra frames make the video look more fluid, in most cases, and less choppy. the reason it looks like you are far away, is because you are probably using a wide (fisheye) setting. try using a normal field of view, 1080p 30fps setting. if you post the names of your presets here, i can help you find one you will be happy with. (i don't own a gopro, so i don't know how they package their settings.)
  7. What kind of barrel are you using?
  8. My experience reloading is not as deep as some here. I have reloaded probably only 30k winchester primers, but never a misfire.
  9. Clays shoots pretty soft, but pushing 170ish PF out of a 200gr bullet was in the upper limits of the powder. I switched to WSF for no other reason than it's what i had about 10lbs of already for 9mm minor. It's a bit smokey, but i have not found a lead load yet that is not. It is pretty soft as well. Practically speaking, i would take your manual to your favorite LGS that you plan to buy powder from, and see what they have a lot of on the shelves or what they are likely to have regularly, use your manual to confirm you can get major out of it, and try a couple powders that way. I have found there to be so little difference in loads i have worked up, it makes more sense for me to shoot a load that is easy to shop for as the number 1 priority.
  10. this was the most fun i've had at a match. Ray Hirst designs some truly fun and challenging stages.
  11. i'm new to the 1911 thing, but i have about 900 rounds on a new kimber custom II with zero issues. I attribute it mostly to having shot absolutely 0 rounds through the factory mag. I use all Tripp Cobra mags. i almost had myself convinced, prior to purchasing, that kimbers were junk (from what i read on the internet.) the more i read, the more it sounded like the mags make up for somewhere around 90% of the reliability of a 1911. either people grossly over exagerate gun problems on the internet, or i've just been very, very lucky with all of my "junk" guns that i've bought.
  12. I have 12k round through my xdm, and have never noticed a POI shift from being dirty or clean, certainly not to the tune of a couple inches. Mine "hits left" as others have said out of the box, clean, and after 5k rounds of lead without cleaning. it's really not a big deal to me. i adjusted the sights the first day i shot it and have not had to change it. it is a pretty accurate gun. they did. despite your extensive testing on only "several" of the guns.
  13. my xdm 5.25 9mm has the front sight within .001 of center, and the rear sight is almost flush with the right side of the slide.
