Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Never heard of that. Maybe I'm a cynic, but the main purpose of this is to separate $170 from you to them. A tuned factory S&W trigger is all that Jerry needs. The rest of us mere mortals would likely be better served by expending that amount on ammo and practice. My $0.02, YMMV
  2. Was the company doing the work trained and certified by Cerakote? From the appearance, surface prep bay have been improper.
  3. Another factor that may be an issue for some is the closer to the bore, the less parallax you will have shooting at varying distances. I shoot matches where ranges can be anywhere from 10 to 50 yards. When I was using high mounted Ultradot Matchdot, I would have to adjust down 4-5 clicks going from 10 to 25 yards. Now with my slide milled RMR so close to the bore no adjustments needed. Shooting 357 Sig.
  4. I share your pain. Not a G34, but had the slide of my G35 milled for an RMR. Prefer milled slide to get the optic as low as possible. BUIS are a big aid in quickly acquiring the dot. Match win first time out with it.
  5. Right. Test it all with my brass-o-meter.
  6. The powder in factory loads is what is called a "non canister" powder. Blended batch by batch. I did the same development in attempting to duplicate Federal AE 147s. First step is to chronograph the load you are duplication. Then pull a round down and weigh the charge. Can also study the powder for size, etc. I got this: 147 AE FACTORY 4.5 931 960 952 29 13.59 A bit of experimentation got me this: 147 BE86 4.5 908 958 939 38 15.30 As close as I needed to get.
  7. Guess its my OCD, but I purchase once fired police brass from a dealer in PA. Comes to me cleaned, ready to size and load.
  8. I consider 9mm brass to be a consumable at matches. Buy once fired police brass in bulk. Unless, of course, I'm shooting this:
  9. More shots are always better. I have two, an 8-shot 327 TRR8 shooting 38 Mid, and a 7-shot 9mm 986. The smaller gun just works better for me, YMMV.
  10. A DQ is usually for breaking the 180 rule or another similar safety violation. So you were DQd for failure to engage? As another senior, my motto is "slow is the new fast". Easy to do a brain dump at the buzzer, we all (most at least) have done it.
  11. I would phone Novak. I've found the to be very knowledgeable and helpful. 304-428-2676
  12. I split the difference. Arm supported on bags, allowing the gun to recoil normally.
  13. Very important for fixed sight pistols. Heavier hits higher, lighter hits lower.
