  1. Make sure the disconnector pads are not slipping below the sear feet and hanging the disconnector from upward movement. If this is the case the disconnector nose that contacts the slide needs to be shortened. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. I have a 2011 I'm trying to use this on. There is no higher shelf mag catch available for the 2011. I also built this 2011 frame specifically for this conversion so there is no ejector installed on the frame in order to eliminate any problems thereof. The feed issue seems to occur with 10 rounds in the magazines, especially if inserting a mag with one in the chamber (10+1). I have experienced it with a 9+1 condition as well. Does seem to go away with 9 in a mag from slide lock or 8+1. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Well the Advantage Arms mags do not work with the Nelson unit. They sit too low for the Nelson and the slide will close and slide over the round. So my next question is has anyone tried the TacSol wide body mags in the Nelson? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. The culprit of heavy 10-22 factory trigger pull is the hammer, or more specifically the geometry of the hooks. The hooks are way to tall and the angle to the sear face is way to negative. I do 10-22 triggers with factory parts to a crisp 2.25lbs just by adjusting hammer hook height and correcting sear engagement angle to a slight negative engagement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I've talked to Larry, very nice guy. I have had this problem with this unit on two 2011 frames. The second frame I actually built specifically for the conversion. That way I could tweak it to work and not worry about disrupting adjustment to cause problems with a primary slide like my race gun frame. The mags are just touching the units extractor so seat height should be fine. No dragging of the slide to the frame, and no difference with ammo brand.   7. The RTS2 has been a good sight for me and my father has had good luck with both of his as a slide ride on a 1911 45 and M&P9 . As far as the differences in adjustment range, it must be a change between the versions or QC is off. The RTS2 and STS2 are both manufactured in Japan under contract for C-more (Ultra-dot maybe) and its possible glass or base plate angles changed with upgraded versions. C-more would be the one to confirm that. I am surprised to hear your running out of "up" adjustment. My experience with cheely mounts for the RTS2 or DP pro end up running out of down adjustment on most guns, just experienced this recently actually. His mounts have at least 1 degree of angle machined into the mount. That adds additional downward cant to the already 1 degree of downward cant most custom builders (and even STI the last I knew) drill and tap the frame holes at. This usually ends up being at the extreme end of "down" adjustment or just out of it leaving a high POI. But CK arms may not drill and tap at an angle because they do it in the mount. Full size C-mores have enough adjustment to make up for varying mount angles that limit the mini dots. That being said if you cant work this out get a full size C-more as they are more reliable and durable than most mini's with heavy vibrating open pistols.
  8. I have a Nelson Custom .22 Lr conversion on a 2011 frame. I am also using Nelson's 2011 wide body mags. After finishing the 2011 lower frame build specifically for this Nelson conversion I am having a feeding issue. The bullet nose jams into the 12 0'clock edge of the chamber causing a stoppage. This problem was happening regularly as well as rounds nose diving into the mag bodies front edge and hanging on a sharp corner. I determined the bullet nose hitting the mag body either hung it up or if it did roll over caused the round to snap up to high thus jamming the bullet into the 12 0'clock chamber edge and sometimes higher than that. I then put a radius to that edge on the front mag body and it eliminated the nose dive stoppage in the magazine. It did not completely eliminate the bullet nose jamming in the chambers top edge, just lessened the frequency. Im sure this is still a magazine issue as the height the mag is held in the gun is per nelson spec. There are no rub or resistance points slowing slide motion down etc etc. Rather than to continue modification to the Nelson mags that I have my doubts about I am looking into other mags to see if this issue persists or gets cured. Before I waste more coin on this project I am interested in hearing if anyone has tried the Advantage Arms wide body mags with a Nelson and if its better or worse etc. Any previous experience with Nelson "feed issues" from anyone will be appreciated.

  10. I had a Tanfo Gold Team.....that's why I now have a 2011. They have short throats and poorly engineered extractors that are short in length and too small of a face to adjust for tuning the brass kick. They consistently fail to clear brass of the chamber. Their extractors are weak, broke 2 in a year. I had a 9mm which is more problematic than the 38 Super. But I've been squadded with 3 38 super tanfo shooters so far this year and they all had issues. I will compliment Tanfo Gold Team owners as they are the most proficient at handling malfunctions on the clock! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. There are a lot of good open gun builders out there. I say builders because in my opinion having one built minimizes the problems you have a greater chance to encounter with assembly line semi-custom guns. Mainly because a reputable builder test fires their builds in order to make adjustments during the build process. Whereas assembly lines slap things together, QC visually inspects and shoots a few through it to make sure it wont blow up and that it!. I have a "new to open" friend who bought a CK (dont recall the model) and it is a nice gun but it had some super stiff lockup, yanking it open on an empty chamber was harsh! The barrel lucks showed shearing/peening from a way to tight fit. Then my Dad's STI trubor was apparently made on a Friday after a company cocktail party as he had it completely re-worked. STI USPSA Single Stack had a barrel replaced twice with a new slide that second time as it was inaccurate. My STI Trojan had hammer follow in 500 rounds etc etc.That's examples of what potential shortcomings you run the risk of getting with semi-custom production. So if its reliability you want have one built and minimize the bells and whistles to keep the cost down. I personally have a Bedell Custom 38 Super Comp and it has been flawless without one hiccup since I got it. It is also tack driving accurate. As you said spend once and cry once...GO FULL CUSTOM OPEN!
  12. +1 on fitting the disconnector. Very possible the discinnector protrudes into the slide area a bit to far so when the disconbector is forced down upon firing the top edge of the disconnector pads on the bottom side are pushed to far and catching the bottom edges of the sear legs.   13. The barrel was made by Pinnacle High Performance out of Quakertown, PA. I am not privy to what brand of blanks he uses but he contours and works them to perfection. It is super accurate. The twist is 1 in 14. I chose that twist as its a good all around twist for good results with both light and heavy bullets.
  14. I got some great groups with Bullseye. I just thought it was quite snappy, jumpy and of course very filthy. VV powders are not common place in most gun shops here so Id have to order it. I usually dont order up large quantities of powder before I know its what I settled on committing to. Of course its not cost effective to order a pound of anything either. So with that said I picked up what was on the shelves in conjunction with what I already had in my supply. So far the best feeling and clean burning powder I have tried is WST. Of course its the only one I did not spend time with shooting test groups as I ran out of time during my bench session. I did bump my initial WST load from 3.1 gr to 3.2 gr to chrono closer to 125 pf I like for ICORE. It made exactly a 125.1 pf and it did not get any snappier and still no jumpy feel. I have high hopes it will shoot well, If it keeps it within 1.25" at 20 yards its going to be my Short colt load.
  15. During my lengthy experimentation I found 1.200" OAL was beneficial vs shorter OAL I tried with the Bayou 160. Lighter bullets did not show as much improvement when varying the OAL. (The amount of taper crimp applied regardless of type and weight of bullet remained constant with no change after initial adjustment to .358" diam pills to just put a noticable but shallow depression on the bullet. I did try a couple .357" diam bullets that would have had a smidge less on it.) Anyway the 160 gr produced noticeably better accuracy and felt less snappy with the 1.200" OAL. The accuracy I attribute to shortening the distance of bullet jump to the throat with the longer OAL. The reduction of recoil with heavier bullets I attribute to the larger void left between the powder and bullet reducing initial pressure spikes with the longer OAL. Lighter bullets wont benefit from longer OAL in the bullet jump reduction as the bullet itself is shorter to begin when considering the needed bullet engagement in the case. But the bullet profile itself of course can change that. But pressure reduction with any bullet should be considered carefully when choosing the OAL & seating depth. Yes lighter bullets are more forgiving as less mass requires less energy to move (theoretically less pressure/energy gets them moving and out of the case) than compared to a heavier bullet. But it still can get you into trouble if care is not taken to stay on the longer end of allowable OAL. Now add the faster flavors of powder and the OAL gets even more critical with heavier pills. Then to add one more thought to the think tank is the crimp and that is critical for any weight bullet. (A heavy crimp on a lighter bullet can equal required energy to move as a heavier bullet with a lighter crimp.) Thats why I consider a taper crimp is required on short colts as it is more forgiving with variations in amount of crimp for release than a roll crimp. With all that considered that how I arrived to the 1.200" OAL....it is safe and produces best results!
