New 650 Problem since changing #5 shell plate

New plate works perfect no issues with jamming or catching the round as it leaves and hits the ejector. gerritm -
New 650 Problem since changing #5 shell plate
gerritm replied to gerritm's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
So after trying everything that was recommended I finally used my head and called Dillon CS. Basically no wait to talk to a very helpful gentleman. He asked me some basic questions and decided to send me a new #5 shellplate with an RMA return envelope prepaid.. Got it in a couple of days and changed it out. Ran 100 rounds with no issues. Gotta love great companies & customer service. gerritm -
New 650 Problem since changing #5 shell plate
gerritm replied to gerritm's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I have tried experimenting. Kinda strange it does it with 2 different ejector wires and 2 different after market parts. -
Need ideas. Changed the damaged #5 shell plate and it works great. This never happened with old plate. Same wire ejector and even used a spare. Since changing it every once in a while a finished round gets cocked crooked under the wire ejector causing the plate to snap and spill powder out of the other cases. Mostly would catch it and remove that case, but apparently have missed a couple and had definite low powder rounds fired. Not quite a squib, bullet leaves the barrel, but cause to stop and check. Tried bending the wire with no success. Tried after market products that eliminate the wire. Had my son make one on his 3d printer. Better, but still catches, not as bad when the plate snaps. Bought a metal one and it still does it although also not as bad as the wire. Inconsistent with brass brands and plate slots. Ideas? Could the plate be slightly off? Have removed plate and lubed and adjusted it for smooth operation. All good except for this. gerritm

This pin is working its way out on my son's M2. Many rounds been a great 3gun SG. Shot a match this weekend and it stabbed him bloody when quad loading. Is there a over size or different pin or just replace with a new one. Thanks, gerritm

Wore out #5 shell plate on 650
gerritm replied to gerritm's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Need a little more help. After installing the new shell plate, every few finished rounds the brass case will catch on the wire and stop the plate. Not all do it. Not sure why, didn't do it on old plate. If I remember there was a way to put a slight bend in the wire. Gerritm -

Also got the new shell plate already. Ran 100 rounds off and worked great, back to normal. Gerritm -

Wore out #5 shell plate on 650

Using cleaned brass from Everglades, there seems to be some Norma brass mixed in that the Dillon sizer/decapper doesn't like and will not deprime. When I catch it or feel it I pull it out, along with crimped primer pockets. Could be the decapper pin gets slightly bent and is hitting the plate edges. I have a single old Lee with a Lee decapper sizing die that I run those through and the Lee removes the primers no problem. Might have to be more careful with new plate and change pins more often. What is the center part of the sizing/depriming die with the brass nut that the pin sits in part number? I couldn't find it in the Dillon parts online. Should probably change that to make sure pin is straight. Thanks, gerritm -
I have a 650 that is probably 10 years old. Been rebuilt by Dillon once a few years ago. I load only 9mm. Mostly cleaned cases from Everglades. Noticed that the first stage when pushing case in that they were crooked and tilted back so I would correct it with my finger. Also shell plate would not always advance like normal. Replaced usual parts without correcting this. Looked at the plate and the indents on 2 had marks/gouges or were missing. Replaced the shell plate with an old one and 1 spot was worn completely and shell actually dropped between plate and slide. Question using only brass cases. How do these wear out a steel plate. Just curious. My 650 has been great over the years. Just ordered a new one. Gerritm

We shoot 2 VR80'S in 3gun. 1 is pretty much 100%. The 2nd has had a couple of issues, but runs good now. Did all of what Nolan said. Cleaning up the mag edges, removing the bolt hold open, smoothing the follower, and just for precautions spray dry teflon in mags when cleaning. Both have several thousand rounds on them, shooting only Winchester AA 1145. Smooth hard hull helps feeding. gerritm

My shooting is ok but I cant remember sht when beep goes beep

If you are not first on the stage, make sure you reset it as much as possible. Resetting/taping lets me see anything hidden that I might miss otherwise. A pattern to the way it was set up. Different perspective. Gerritm -
We run exclusively Winchester AA at 1145fps or 1200fps depending on what I can find. We have Taccom comps, not mid barrel. Recoil is soft and dot stays on target, pretty much. Reason for AA is here in SE Texas due to the heat and humidity I have seen many other brands deform and cause problems. Some guys put their rounds in a cooler. Need the hard smooth shell cases to be round to feed correctly. gerritm

C-zone & sometimes a hanging gong type about 12" or bigger in diameter is what I have seen. gerritm

These on 30 or 40 round Magpul mags coupled together. Depending on what height you like. Very stable. The Ranger plate has just enough give to absorb a little recoil, good angle, and when you drop down absorbs the shock. gerritm

Try Vibratite VC3. Different kind of loctite & follow directions. Have had this problem with a CZ plate & SRO. Tried all kinds of different loctite combos and so far this seems to work. gerritm

Just got 5K of the Ginex SPP. I run light springs in both of our CZ's. They ran fine in the CZ's and our PCC's. They are a little harder to seat in mixed headstamp brass on my 650, remind me of S&B primers. All good. gerritm

We have the same CZ Accushadow and have had the exact same problem with a Trijicon SRO loosening up after a match or 2. It is a Cajun plate. Tried different screw materials with no luck. Blue loctite each time. Plate stays tight to slide. Just replaced the plate and all screws. Was fine for 1 match, but will see after a few. gerritm

Not sure what SG you are shooting, due to the shell shortage, we have made our 2- VR80's by drilling the gas ports & some polishing and buffer spring adjustments shoot almost any load down to 1145FPS with 1oz or 1 1/8oz. My son's Benelli with TTS spring kit will run almost any load, also. Too hard to find specific loads. Can't be too picky right now. We run LM or mod Briley chokes for 99% of the shots. Once in awhile an IM or even full for some really long precise shots. More & more NS targets are being mixed in. The Federal's are 1200fps & 1 1/8oz and run great. gerritm

Not sure where you live, but if you go to the Federal website you can buy direct. Kind of on the expensive side, but available in quantity. I have run these in our VR80's and my son's Benelli. Different shot sizes available. https://www.federalpremium.com/shotshell/federal-target/ gerritm

I ran these a while back. Made PF, but have to run fast like 1350 plus FPS. Accuracy was OK. Very soft shooting, but I had problems keeping them straight when seating in my 650., but could have just been me. ?Seemed more trouble than it was worth. Know a few guys that run these for steel challenge with no PF. I went to 115gr RN plated Everglades and didn't see much difference. I like the way they feel and recoil is straight back, dot doesn't move. I have tried every weight and combo and like this the best. We run these on our 3--PCCs & pistols. gerritm

Bang for the buck, CMC straight 3.5 we have been running these for years on 2 of our 3-gun AR's I built. Have a Timney straight on 1 rifle that is really nice, but not that nice for the extra cost. gerritm

Thanks. Upon further review this Burris RT-25 5x25 has sort of a complicated zero stop on elevation. I thought I had it set as low as it would go, but now not sure. Played around with it and the actual zero stop may not have been where it would allow me to get the 25 yard or 50 yard zero. Will check at the range and get back. Although reading reviews on the 30MOA rail most say it will not get that zero, designed for longer range. I am not too worried about running out of elevation at the distances I will shoot this 22. gerritm

Ruger has a 0 MOA base to replace the 30 MOA that comes on it. Would that make sense? gerritm

I changed scopes in my Ruger PRS 22 I went from a 50mm to a 56mm objective lens using the same Weaver standard 30mm cantilever mount. With the old scope I could zero with all the elevation adjustment down to about 1" high at 25 yards. About the same at 50. The new scope is about 6" high at 25 yards now using the same mount with elevation turned all the way down. I have about 1/4 of an inch from the bottom front of the scope and touching the handguard. I know I need to go with a lower mount or rings, but not sure what to get without guessing. A couple of local matches we shoot dime silhouettes at 25 yards & suckers at 50. So would like to get close to the 25 yard zero like before. Can you shim the back ring down enough? Brownells sells a scope shim kit for 30MM rings. Or go with a new set of separate rings. Is there a measurement that I can use to get the correct height of rings? Thanks, gerritm
