Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. Agree. Cost asides, it is up to the (local) match director. Most larger/major matches I don't believe you can play with 5.7x28.
  2. The early versions of 6-rds shotshells caddy and 2-rds belt carrier are still available - https://www.riflestock.com/store/product-category/misc-products/shot-shell-holders/ I modified mine with belt clips from M-12 military pistol holster for quick on-off (years before Tek-Lok ). California Comp Works used to make 4-rds caddy but no longer available. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2394156343
  3. Hmmm...I didn't think about this part. I don't have a comp on mine yet but the 'diminishing return' effect will make me think twice before shelling out $.
  4. Quick update - These low recoil slugs are good to go in the GEN-12. All 10 rds went into the MGM B/C steel at 100 yds while being supported off a metal fence post so I didn't even look at the grouping. BTW, the Swampfox Kingslayer is still alive and well. I also like the 5-rds magazine much better for fast swapping of loads so will have to order a couple more. https://www.freedommunitions.com/12-ga-2-3-4-x-treme-slug-reduced-recoil-plain-lead.html
  5. I'm using one from 2A after I ran into issues with Whiskey Arms AL carrier. The change in weight is negligible. I have the original JP AL from years past, it still works fine but got moved to the backup gun.
  6. https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/gas-system-tools/gas-block-genie-ar-15-gas-block-alignment-tool-prod124593.aspx I used this little plastic device and a sharpie to locate & mark the barrel for the exact alignment. It will also allow you to indicate on the barrel how far should the gas block be inserted for those barrels made for front sight tower. Watch the imbedded video on Brownells product page for clarity on how to use it.
  7. Yep, we certainly are 'tinderers' and most of the times, good enough doesn't mean we stop testing new gizzmos. I'm currently running a JP LMOS w/ HP bolt in my 18" rifle length gas with adj gas block and Lancer Nitrous 3-port brake. I used to run the VG6 Gamma in my older 16" midlength with adj gas but its performance was no where near the Nitrous's so it now has the same brake as the 18".
  8. You did not mention the following items #1) Brake, #2) An adjustable gas block (or means to adjust the gas flow into the BCG). If those don't exist in your build, get them and tune your moving mass (BCG) after. 308 fbffer & spring tuning would be the last things to think about (and they yield minimal improvements to recoild management). Regarding adjustable buffer - No, I don't have long term experience. Only played with the JP captured spring/buffer system and hated it the added weight.
  9. Fiocchi slugs just sux eggs out of this shotty. I gave it a few rounds last week just to see perhaps a different lot would be different, and nope, 5 out of 5 tanked the extraction/ejection cycle so I'm saving the rest for my Nellis. I tested the Brenneke and they all worked beautifully, best accuracy out of this shotgun also. https://www.brennekeusa.com/law-enforcement-ammunition/thdr-tactical-home-defense/ Next up was the good old standby B&P Target Slugs - No Go! I didn't bring any of the newer 3-Gun B&P slugs but the older blue color target slugs failed to extract/eject. I just got in a case of X-Treme Low Recoil slugs so will run another test after the holidays.
  10. You're welcome! By the way, I added a Limbsaver recoil pad to the stock and boy, it sure made a huge difference in perceived recoil. Since it added 5/8" LOP to the gun, I swapped out the stock back to a Magpul SL to accommodate the added LOP.
  11. That's the choke tube I'm using (seemed like the only game in town for that matter). I put the original thread protector back on it with a bit of loc-tite. Regarding the added weight, I don't think it really noticeable since most of weight sits at the upper receiver. I don't have a brake so can't tell you how much the combination of choke tube + muzzle brake would affect the forward weight of the gun. Hope you get your form approved quickly.
  12. Nice factory gun but it is quite a bit behind.
  13. Quick update - Went out to sight in for slugs the other day. I've made a couple of changes to this 1) Added a modified choke by SGM, 2) Changed out the stock to a Magpul Fixed Carbine stock, and put the SwampFox Kingslayer on top instead of the Vortex (just didn't like looking through a tube while swinging the gun. From old stash - Wolf Performance 7/8 oz 1400 fps slugs, and Fiocchi 12SLUGLE 7/8 oz 1300 fps. Both performed well in my Benelli M2. Wolf slugs did well beside beating me up a little when shot from support. 50 yds snaps were fun, the MGM B/C zone target rung loudly everytime. Fiocchi was another story, I've never had any of them hung up at the M2 ejection port, but all 20 failed to properly extract and eject. Bad/cheap hull construction I learned later through Patrick. Now I know why they were so cheap back then when you can buy an 80 rounds can for 55 bux ! I didn't bother doing accuracy testing at 100 yds at this point since I need to rethink what to use for low recoil slugs. 00 Buck - 9 pellets patterned into a 20" radius at 25 yds. #7 and 8 birdshots - Patterned into a 24"-ish radius at 25 yds. All impacts were at point of aim. I think the Modified choke is good to go. The SwampFox made it through but I need to swap out the green for red reticle. Many people raved about green color RDS but for me red is much better in bright sunny days. In summary I'm liking this Gen12 shotgun!
  14. Out of curiousity I did a search and RSR Group has this brand listed under Ortho. I don't have a dealer account so can't see pricing or availability https://www.rsrgroup.com/search?Category=5&Facets[exclusive]=on&Facets[DEPT][]=zzz_5&Facets[MAN][]=zzz_orthos&LastFacet=MAN_zzz_orthos
