Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I just rebarreled my first Savage. So I have faced some of the same issues. I chose an ER Shaw 6.5 creedmoor barrel from Gun Shack. Not the best but fit my budget and needs. If you are contemplating switching stocks the short action 110s are quite tough to come by (I owned a 110 in 223) as are one piece scope mounts. You would be money ahead to sell your rifle as is and buy a more recent short action sporter with 4.40 inch screw spacing as a donor gun. If you are happy just swapping barrels I would keep your current rifle. FYI my project is a model 11 with factory DBM from a pawnshop. After selling the takeoff 7mm08 barrel and weaver scope I should have about $100 in the action and stock. I think you would love a 6.5 of any sort!
  2. Hello all! My wife was given an EAA Witness Silver Team (See pic below) with sight & mount. I want to take her & eventually my children out to enjoy USPSA with me someday. The big thing I need to find is an adequate holster. Simple and low speed preferred over high speed low drag types. Given the pistol is about 24 years old and it has a very uncommon trigger guard shape I haven't been able to google up an answer so I am posting it here. My first attempt bought a holster that would work with the pistol but NOT with the sight mount. I live very very far from the rest of the world so looking at race holsters in person isn't really possible for me. Thanks! Any other info on the pistol would be welcome as well I have collected a belt and two 25 round, one 18 round and two standard mags so far. I don't think a mag well is necessary, but if it is where would you find one?
  3. Thanks for the picture. I'm trying to decide if I should put a magwell on my wife's Silver Team.
  4. Here is a picture with the mount beside the pistol. The rear sight and scope mount don't work together.
  5. Thanks for the reply. The sight is mounted to a weaver rail base screwed to the side of the frame. The trigger guard is the older slightly squared shape. I assume that will work with the trigger guard type holster. I will try to add a picture or two of the pistol.
  6. Hello all! I used to shoot USPSA production with a Glock 34 and had worked my way up to B class. Between a new job, move across the state, and birth of a third child I haven't shot a match in 3 years. I am finally looking forward to getting to shoot again but this time my wife is interested in joining me! She was given an EAA Witness Silver Team in 9mm (small frame) with a Tasco Propoint. I have a total of 3 stock mags to go with the gun, but no other gear. Can you point me in a direction to complete a lower cost rig to outfit this gun for her to enjoy shooting with me? At a minimum I need to get a holster, one big mag, three mag holders, and a belt. I just want her to enjoy herself, she is a very good shot generally and I want to nurture that interest. I have googled quite a bit and cant find a good answer on the need for a holster that will accommodate the sight mount. Thanks!

I will have to get that! I remember checking Elmer's autobiography out of the Idaho Falls library a few years ago...curious how this book reads.
  8. No...it was about a 2 week turn around with shipping. I just remembered that I had started a thread way back and wanted to help anyone who may be searching about the same problem.
  9. Just for anyone who may be searching about this problem in the future...Remington repaired it for $80 plus shipping.
  10. Well I called and they told me to ship it to them UPS. I guess we'll see how it goes. -Joe
  11. Well, my 11-87 bound up this weekend, and it looks like the magazine tube has pulled about 1/4 inch out of the receiver. I bought this shotgun with the intent of using it in 3-gun, but haven't done anything to alter it yet, it still has dimples in the mag tube and its original 26 inch barrel. What would you do with it? I have some background in silver solder and brazing, but I know I would bugger up the finish. If so I could finish it with gunkote I guess. Maybe I should send it off to be fixed. Anyone have experience with re-brazing these things? My original plan was to add a mag tube, 10/22 sight, side saddle, and oversize bolt handle and call that good. I could still strip it down and use it for duck season that way. Maybe I should just go whole hog and have it cut back and retubed.
  12. I'm new to this, but I have a 3.4-10x VariXIII mounted on a DPMS hi rise upper with just a regular weaver extension ring (I think it is a medium height) in the front and a standard ring in the back. Gets just enough space in there to work well.
  13. For what its worth, my wife, who has very small hands likes shooting her Witness Silver Team 9mm. It has a very short trigger reach, even to the single action only trigger. She had previously tried a Glock 19 and vetoed that as too "snappy". She likes the Silver team so much, she isn't interested in shooting much else.
